{"id":80509,"date":"2022-04-28T16:09:58","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T21:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=80509"},"modified":"2022-04-28T16:09:58","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T21:09:58","slug":"80509","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=80509","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The author barely gives any notice about &#8216;internal&#8217; dissent, but that&#8217;s almost certainly a big part of this, as there&#8217;s too much going on in too many different places, that are far from the border, and covert infiltration in non-permissive areas is <em>extremely<\/em> difficult to pull off.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>BLUF:<br \/>\n&#8230;.it\u2019s the nature of wars that were meant to be limited to spin out of control.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/vodkapundit\/2022\/04\/28\/what-the-hell-is-going-on-in-russia-n1593602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What the Hell Is Going On in Russia?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the hell is going on in Russia?\u201d is the kind of headline you write when there\u2019s so much weird stuff going on that it\u2019s impossible to summarize it cleverly.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you\u2019ll find this catchier: There\u2019s a lot of stuff getting blown up in Russia, and it might not just be the Ukrainians blowing it up.<\/p>\n<p>The weirdness got going in a normal way, with reports earlier this week of Ukraine\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/russian-explosions-point-to-ukraine-s-embrace-of-the-british-special-forces-model\/ar-AAWAmbS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">embrace of the British special forces model<\/a>\u201d to strike targets inside Russia that the regular Army (or even Ukraine\u2019s inadequate Air Force) could never reach.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Washington Examiner\u2019<\/em>s Tom Rogan reported that a major oil depot was hit on Monday in Bryansk, more than 60 miles inside Russia\u2019s border with Ukraine. That\u2019s outside the range of most of Ukraine\u2019s drones.<\/p>\n<p>While interesting, it isn\u2019t exactly a \u201cwhat the hell?\u201d moment. British troops have been training Ukraine\u2019s special operators since Russia annexed Ukraine and armed insurgents in Ukraine\u2019s Donbas region back in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Two more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/04\/27\/world\/ukraine-russia-war-news?smid=tw-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur#explosions-and-downed-drones-suggest-ukraine-is-striking-targets-deeper-inside-russia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">such attacks<\/a>\u00a0were reported the next day:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two explosions were reported in Voronezh, nearly 200 miles from Ukraine, and a Ukrainian drone was reportedly shot down over Kursk, about 70 miles from the border.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks in Kursk and Voronezh, where air-defense systems were reportedly activated, raised the specter of a wider war, as they were farther inside Russia than previous targets.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you had asked me last week if Ukraine could hit a target 200 miles inside Russia, I\u2019d have been doubtful.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, it\u2019s still a bit hard to believe.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe you\u2019ll join me in asking \u201cWhat the hell is going on in Russia?\u201d after these next few items.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"ratio ratio-16x9\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"mw-100\" title=\"Fire at Russian top-secret military research base\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T-K0Jm83GmY?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Last week in Tver, about 100 miles northwest of Moscow, a Russian missile research facility\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/americanmilitarynews.com\/2022\/04\/videos-fire-mysteriously-breaks-out-at-russian-military-research-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">caught fire<\/a>, killing 17. Russian authorities claimed the blaze was an accident, but they claimed the same thing at first about\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/vodkapundit\/2022\/04\/14\/moskva-down-did-ukraine-really-sink-the-pride-of-russias-black-sea-fleet-n1589752\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moskva<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>At nearly the same time, Russia\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/russian-chemical-plant-burns-down-hours-after-deadly-fire-at-military-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest chemical plant burned to the ground<\/a>\u00a0in Kineshma, about 150 miles east of Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday,\u00a0<em>Newsweek<\/em>\u00a0reported on \u201cmysterious explosions throughout Russia,\u201d including an ammunition depot in Belgorod, well north of Kyiv. Almost at the same time, nearly 200 miles away in Voronezh, more explosions were reported in a neighborhood near Russia\u2019s Baltimor military airfield. And in Kursk, about halfway in between Belgorod and Voronezh, more explosions were reported.<\/p>\n<p>That would be a busy night even for the special forces of a much larger country than Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Then this bit of weirdness happened in downtown Moscow on Wednesday:<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?dnt=true&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3NwYWNlX2NhcmQiOnsiYnVja2V0Ijoib2ZmIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1519513583318675461&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fpjmedia.com%2Fvodkapundit%2F2022%2F04%2F28%2Fwhat-the-hell-is-going-on-in-russia-n1593602&amp;sessionId=e2c1a2aeb7869ab7ee432942e272319f5ff57557&amp;siteScreenName=PJMedia_com&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=c8fe9736dd6fb%3A1649830956492&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1519513583318675461\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another one came in just as I was writing this report:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/terror_alarm\/status\/1519725573588799488\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1593628\" src=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Russia-Explosion-730x622.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Russia-Explosion-730x622.png 730w, https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Russia-Explosion-1110x946.png 1110w, https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Russia-Explosion.png 1180w\" alt=\"What the Hell Is Going On in Russia?\" width=\"730\" height=\"622\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tyumen is on the far side of the Ural Mountains from Ukraine in western Siberia.<\/p>\n<p>But wait, there\u2019s more.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, a Russian train engine\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-bryansk-train-derails-railway-track-damaged-photos-1700512\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">derailed<\/a>\u00a0in the Bryansk region that was \u201creportedly traveling on the same line used by Moscow to send equipment and ammunition to Russian troops in Ukraine.\u201d The track had been somehow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/russian-train-derails-after-railway-track-damaged-photos-show\/ar-AAWz4yS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">damaged<\/a> before the derailment.<\/p>\n<p>Also last week \u2014 and this one slipped completely under my radar \u2014 the fifth of five\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2022\/04\/22\/5-russian-enlistment-offices-hit-by-arson-attacks-reports-a77454\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">military enlistment offices<\/a>\u00a0in Moscow was hit by arsonists since the start of the war.<\/p>\n<p>Local recruitment efforts were \u201cput on pause,\u201d according to media outlet iStories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gregorybufithis.com\/2022\/04\/27\/the-weird-stuff-happening-in-russia-fires-explosions-train-derailments-and-dead-executives-and-oligarchs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">And<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Meanwhile, another oddity: Russian executives turning up dead in apparent murder-suicides with their families. That fate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/04\/25\/deaths-russian-oligarchs-wave-executives-found-dead-gazprom-novatek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently befell former executives<\/a>\u00a0from energy giant Gazprombank and Novatek, Russia\u2019s largest independent gas producer. Their deaths are among a number of high-profile\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/every-russian-oligarch-who-has-died-since-putin-invaded-ukraine-full-list-1700022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oligarch deaths<\/a>\u00a0in recent weeks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So once more, I must ask: What the hell is going on in Russia?<\/p>\n<p>A string of bad luck? Surprisingly effective Ukraine special forces?
