Report: CRT Symposium Speaker Calls Diversity of Thought ‘White Supremacist’ Excrement<\/a><\/p>\n Does diversity of thought equal white supremacy? It appears so, according to a college professor.<\/p>\n As reported by\u00a0Campus Reform<\/a>, academics gathered recently for a\u00a0Critical Race Theory<\/a>\u00a0conference. Organized by Critical Race Studies in Education Association (CRSEA) and hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the symposium took place between May 31st and June 2nd.<\/p>\n CRSEA\u2019s\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0describes its mission thusly:<\/p>\n [W]e are committed to (1) countering and combating systemic and structural racism with scholarship and praxis, (2) recognizing the multiple locations of oppression and the myriad manifestations and effects of their intersections and (3) co-constructing liberating knowledge that facilitates collective agency to transform schools and communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Amid the meet-up, instructors waxed on that most pernicious of all contemporary blights, whiteness.<\/p>\n According to a witness, per\u00a0Campus Reform<\/a>, a California college teacher whacked away:<\/p>\n \u201cWhiteness has already been constructed against blackness. There is no virtue in whiteness, it is inherently violent,\u201d one conference-goer tweeted, referencing a quote from Michael Dumas, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley who spoke at the event.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n Continued:<\/p>\n \u201cWhiteness and the United States knows itself through the violence and death of the subordinated,\u201d another attendee quoted Dumas as saying, with one academic at the conference noting Dumas claimed that there \u201cis no position of whiteness that isn\u2019t already violent.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n CR<\/a>\u00a0quotes from tweets by the professor along those lines, but they appear to have been deleted or marked private.<\/p>\n Dumas, notably, has expressed similar views in the past,\u00a0tweeting<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cwhiteness\u201d is \u201cviolent and delusional, delighting in Black death in every historical moment,\u201d\u00a0claiming<\/a>\u00a0at the recent conference that \u201cthere will never be anything close to justice in the U.S. because the system is built upon violence.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The outlet<\/a>\u00a0relays another characterization by Indiana University-Purdue Professor James Scheurich, who purportedly asserted that \u201cresearch\u201d is a \u201ccolonial, white supremacist, elite process.\u201d<\/p>\n Here\u2019s more:<\/p>\n Professor Theodorea Berry suggested that \u201csome people need to be slapped into wokeness.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n \u201cThe proverbial \u2018slap\u2019 is the incident of marginalization,\u201d she [explained to Campus Reform]. \u201cThe \u2018wokeness\u2019 is the realization that regardless of your privilege, marginalization can occur.\u201d<\/p>\n One attendee, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Chicago, concluded her time at the conference by noting that she\u2019s \u201chappy\u201d since she managed to collect \u201ca few white tears.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Perhaps the most notable claim from the conference came courtesy of University of Illinois at Chicago Professor David Stovall.
