The story first appeared in the\u00a0<em>Indianapolis Star<\/em>\u00a0and quickly went viral. Why did he wait so long? That was a benign headline. But it was the anecdotal beginning that caught the attention of other news organizations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kessler didn\u2019t bother to name those \u201cother news organizations,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/megan-fox\/2022\/07\/07\/this-is-how-we-lose-gov-dewine-on-defense-instead-of-offense-over-dubious-tale-of-10-year-old-rape-victim-n1611009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which were literally<em>\u00a0me, myself, and I.<\/em><\/a>\u00a0After my tweet showing my research into this story that didn\u2019t add up went viral, the only news about it linked to my research. Kessler didn\u2019t bother to give me any credit for that. It probably hurt too much to admit that a conservative news outlet and an independent journalist smoked the\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day as my research into what I believe is a political hit job, the<em>\u00a0Washington Post\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0Jennifer Rubin (who, unbelievably, used to work here)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/4OtgE#selection-637.0-643.4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote a hysterical opinion piece<\/a>\u00a0on the \u201cforced births\u201d that furthered its spread. Kessler didn\u2019t bother to fact-check the story at that time. He let Rubin\u2019s piece run without question as she relied on the thin tale to spread her pro-abortion propaganda.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two Republican governors, Kristi L. Noem of South Dakota and Tate Reeves of Mississippi, were asked on Sunday news talk shows about the case of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/4OtgE\/https:\/\/www.cincinnati.com\/story\/news\/2022\/07\/01\/ohio-girl-10-among-patients-going-indiana-abortion\/7788415001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10-year-old girl<\/a>\u00a0impregnated by her rapist. Are they really insisting that, regardless of the physical harm that giving birth could cause someone so young, the child be further tormented and forced to have the baby?\u00a0<i>Yes\u2026<\/i>The monstrous cruelty of such bills shows how little many conservatives care about the well-being of women and girls who have already experienced the unbelievable trauma of sexual violence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It took four more days, my viral tweet, Joe Biden weighing in, and a RealClearPolitics reporter asking the White House press secretary about it for Kessler to get interested in fact-checking this story. He didn\u2019t do a terrible job. With the headline that says \u201cA one-source story about a 10-year-old and an abortion goes viral,\u201d Kessler threw cold water on Dr. Bernard\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The only source cited for the anecdote was Bernard. She\u2019s on the record, but there is no indication that the newspaper made other attempts to confirm her account. The story\u2019s lead reporter, Shari Rudavsky, did not respond to a query asking whether additional sourcing was obtained. A Gannett spokeswoman provided a comment from\u00a0Bro Krift, the newspaper\u2019s executive editor: \u201cThe facts and sourcing about people crossing state lines into Indiana, including the 10-year-old girl, for abortions are clear. We have no additional comment at this time.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rudavsky never responded to me either; nor did Krift. Krift\u2019s response to the\u00a0<em>Post<\/em>\u00a0is pretty revealing. He refused to answer direct questions about how the information was vetted. I can\u2019t resist:\u00a0<em>Clearly, Bro, the info isn\u2019t \u201cclear,\u201d or you wouldn\u2019t have the WaPo, Snopes, and a hundred other outlets asking you to clarify your vetting process.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The story was a lie.
