Matt Dolan<\/a>\u00a0proposed bill with mental health in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That this obvious advocacy piece masked as news relies on assumptions right out of the starting gate is evidenced by repeating the term \u201cgun safety\u201d in the headline, the lede, the body of the \u201c<em>report<\/em>,\u201d and twice in the crusading reporter\u2019s embedded self-publicizing tweet (embedded below). And curiously, since \u201cred flag\u201d laws are also promoted, you\u2019d think the term \u201cdue process\u201d would appear at least once in an unbiased report?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>You\u2019d think.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also of note, no real opposing viewpoints are presented. The single gun owner quoted who appears marginally uncomfortable with what he\u2019s being told isn\u2019t totally against the idea; he just isn\u2019t sure what it would actually do. He said that \u201cmost gun owners don\u2019t want to cause issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I suppose asking someone from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buckeyefirearms.org\/\" rel=\"\" data-uri=\"85c542128df1ca5bb85cd0a97834bfcc\">Buckeye Firearms Association<\/a>\u00a0what they thought about it would be too much of an investigative reporting stretch. Besides, they\u2019d probably just throw a wrench in the predetermined narrative and give the video editor much more work to futz around with context. And that\u2019s assuming anyone at WEWS even bothered to look for \u201cOhio gun rights groups\u201d to see what might turn up first on Google.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For his part, that Republican Matt Dolan is following a time-worn gun-grabber script could not be more apparent, especially when he declares,\u00a0<em>\u201c[The bill] protects the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens while also\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grabbers always sound that way when they feign\u00a0<em>\u201cI support the Second Amendment\u201d<\/em>\u00a0right before showing everyone their big \u201c<strong><em>but<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d Remembering that it ends in\u00a0<em>\u201cshall not be infringed<\/em>,\u201d what other tyrannical usurpations besides disarming citizens who have not been convicted, let alone even charged, does Dolan intend to \u201cprotect\u201d us with?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf someone aged 18 to 21 wants to buy a gun, they would only be able to buy a rifle or shotgun that holds only a single round of ammunition if they buy the gun by themselves,\u201d the report notes. So evidently double-barrel Fudd guns are out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why would he invent such a ludicrous Constitutionally and historically unsupportable and offensive restriction?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe have to face the fact that not every 18 to 21-year-old has mental maturity and emotional maturity,\u201d Dolan declares. A Texas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2022\/08\/18-years-judge-rules-you-can-carry-guns-video\/\" rel=\"\" data-uri=\"2e74fca456f06596d07e00f785dc62d3\">Judge would disagree.<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>OK, how many 18 to 21-year-olds? Half? Less? Got validly determined numbers?\u00a0 Besides, plenty of so-called \u201cadults\u201d don\u2019t have maturity either, genius, and your buddy in citizen disarmament, fellow \u201cRepublican\u201d Michael Bloomberg, even wants to raise the age for \u201cminorities\u201d to 25 (he just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150216155749\/http:\/www.examiner.com\/article\/bloomberg-pressure-kills-release-of-video-documenting-racist-remarks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"0612e07f96b7a2dbe839fa19e460a27b\">doesn\u2019t want the general public to know<\/a>\u00a0he said that). So, are we to now have \u201cmaturity tests\u201d as a prior restraint for all gun owners? In the name of \u201cpublic safety\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>This will certainly be welcomed by Democrat beneficiaries of Dolan\u2019s bloviating ignorance, who are delighted he is using their talking points while remaining oblivious to their wanting to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/434115-pelosi-says-she-backs-lowering-voting-age-to-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"17c07a776d7973318e842f01d409e206\">lower the voting age to 16<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is where gun owners typically raise objections based on 18-year-old being old enough to join the military (or be drafted if the need arises again, dependent on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2022\/07\/felony-gun-ban-points-to-unequal-treatment-under-selective-service-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"9d79f969bd7ffb4b185accf94f1f96a2\">how they \u201cidentify\u201d<\/a>). In this case, Dolan\u2019s got it covered\u2014or thinks he does.<\/p>\n<p>You can get an \u201cadult\u201d to cosign, provided he accepts liability for your actions after doing so. And \u201cThere is an exception for young people who go into law enforcement and the military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why? Suppose he doesn\u2019t have numbers to prove they are substantially more prone to being law-abiding and less prone to suicide. In that case, he\u2019s just playing to the \u201crah-rah\u201d and \u201cback the blue\u201d crowd with no legitimate data to support violating equal protection under the law. In fact, if you look at what happens in the real world, that would be a tough case to prove, especially with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28255794\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"0bc15238cc499c34d438114568246bde\">reports finding<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEvidence indicates that a substantial proportion of military personnel are involved in high-risk and antisocial behaviors that place them at jeopardy for criminal justice system involvement.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/oped08112016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"2c637089c81992f997bd076c90fa7f7f\">research\u00a0<\/a>concludes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAmong police, firearms violations occur at a rate of 16.5 per 100,000 officers. Among permit holders in Florida and Texas, the rate is only 2.4 per 100,000.10. That is just one-seventh of the rate for police officers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In any case, it ought to be a moot point because our rights are supposed to be recognized for individuals, not because we are arbitrary members of a collective that we have no control over, which, if you think about it, pretty much tells us why racists are wrong. And in any case, for a \u201clawmaker\u201d presuming to tamper with the Second Amendment, you\u2019d think Dolan would at least be cognizant of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/10\/246\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"f00715567d435d24b22dbb3357391c86\">U.S. Code section<\/a>\u00a0mandating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Those featured in the story as backing this RINO bill are oblivious, too, and about more than that.<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnd as long as law-abiding citizens, their Second Amendment, who are mentally capable, is not being infringed on, then I don\u2019t have a problem,\u201d asserted Donna Walker Brown, who the reporter considered it important (that is, useful) to identify as a gun owner and \u201cformer Cuyahoga County Republican Party Executive Committee Chair.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See, Donna, there is a problem, even if you don\u2019t see it. Just like you and Brady don\u2019t want to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradyunited.org\/act\/ban-assault-weapons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"5ad9e2e445e0ec9c2beca6dc921358b0\">take our guns<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is another anti-gunner who got into activism due to a terrible personal loss. Still, while we can all feel a natural human sympathy for that, it does not mean we need to sit still while he works to make us and everyone we love more vulnerable through government diktat.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.columbusmonthly.com\/story\/entertainment\/human-interest\/2020\/02\/11\/erick-bellomy-turns-personal-tragedy\/1714692007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"e78c21ad957df87ff8e6220d24b9f154\">Learning that<\/a>\u00a0\u201chis father was shot and killed in a drug deal gone bad\u201d and that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/momentsthatsurvive.org\/tribute\/erick-jr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"d4ea787c0eceef494d4b5316cb1aa597\">the perpetrator was<\/a>\u00a0\u201ca family member [who] went to his house and tried to rob him and shot and killed him\u201d makes it reasonable to ask if a more effective deterrence might have existed than placing more restrictions on you and me.<\/p>\n<p>And as with Brady, don\u2019t think for a moment that if now RINO-Republican Matt Dolan gets what he wants in this bill (and he won\u2019t, at least not yet) he\u2019ll be satisfied and go away. As I found when I was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firearmsnews.com\/editorial\/ohio-senate-race\/453459\" rel=\"\" data-uri=\"8405c917c842a8e3d51c9ca8475c227e\">assessing candidates<\/a>\u00a0in the pre-primary Ohio U.S. Senate race:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The sixth, State Senator Matt Dolan, a \u201cmoderate Republican,\u201d may as well be a Democrat as far as gun owners are concerned. Described by CNN as a \u201c<strong>non-Trump Republican<\/strong>\u00a0\u2026 in the McCain lane, the Romney lane\u2026\u201d Dolan penned an op-ed in support of the state\u2019s proposed STRONG Act, essentially a \u201cred flag\u201d edict that promises due process before gun confiscations without really delivering it, and requires \u201cbackground checks\u201d on private sales, and adds liability penalties to sellers. And no surprise here, Dolan admits \u201cI understand this bill probably doesn\u2019t go far enough for some and goes too far for others.\u201d Having adopted the language and rationale of the prohibitionists, is there any doubt on whose side he will \u201cerr\u201d when new diktats are demanded?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dolan\u2019s current term in the Ohio State Senate ends in 2024. \u00a0If he runs again, for that or any office, Ohio gun owners need to understand that the betrayals will only spread if they don\u2019t make an example of GOP turncoats. With Republicans like him, who needs Democrats?
