{"id":86213,"date":"2022-10-01T08:13:02","date_gmt":"2022-10-01T13:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=86213"},"modified":"2022-10-01T08:13:02","modified_gmt":"2022-10-01T13:13:02","slug":"86213","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=86213","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthaboutguns.com\/saf-sues-to-block-connecticuts-assault-weapons-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAF Sues to Block Connecticut\u2019s \u2018Assault Weapons\u2019 Ban<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the Second Amendment Foundation . . .<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Second Amendment Foundation today\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/2022-09-29-Grant-Et-Al-v.-Lamont-Et-Al-Complaint-and-Attachments-As-Filed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">filed suit<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in federal district court, challenging the ban on so-called \u201cassault weapons\u201d in Connecticut, and asking for declaratory and injunctive relief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">SAF is joined by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League and three private citizens, Eddie Grant, Jr., Jennifer Hamilton, and Michael Stiefel. Named as defendants are Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, plus James Rovella, commissioner of the state\u2019s Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection; Chief State\u2019s Attorney Patrick Griffin and several other officials. Plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Doug Dubitsky of North Windham, Conn., Craig C. Fishbein of Wallingford, Conn., and Cameron L. Atkinson of New Haven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Connecticut\u2019s ban on so-called \u201cassault weapons\u201d dates back to 1993. The state criminalizes the possession, sale or transfer of such firearms\u2014about 160\u00a0<a title=\"This is an affiliate ad link.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.avantlink.com\/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=11297&amp;pri=21153&amp;pw=275597&amp;mi=16393&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.guns.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc,nofollow\">guns<\/a>\u00a0named in four subsections\u2014even though many of these\u00a0<a title=\"This is an affiliate ad link.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.avantlink.com\/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=11297&amp;pri=21153&amp;pw=275597&amp;mi=16393&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.guns.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc,nofollow\">guns<\/a>\u00a0are in common use across the country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe ban was previously upheld, but that was before the Supreme Court handed down its Bruen ruling earlier this year,\u201d said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. \u201cThat landmark decision eliminated the \u2018two-part test\u2019 which included an interest-balancing provision that didn\u2019t pass constitutional muster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the lawsuit, the current ban deprives \u201cresponsible citizens of their Second Amendment rights under the guise of providing a panacea for social problems that Connecticut remains unable to solve.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gottlieb said there is no historical foundation for such a ban, and the complaint actually details the historical development of firearms including repeating rifles developed and manufactured in Connecticut and elsewhere.
