Believes right-wing is \u2018legitimately trying to bring down our democracy\u2019 <\/em><\/strong>A Chicago-area high school \u201cliteracy coach\u201d recently recorded a video of herself in which she admits to indoctrinating the students in her charge.Fox News reports<\/a>\u00a0Crete-Monee High\u2019s Heather Marie Godbout\u00a0(pictured)<\/em>, a member of the school\u2019s Equity Team, also rips \u201cright-wing conspiracy theorist nut jobs\u201d in her video and notes she is opposed to traditional grading policies \u2014 because grades get \u201cconflated with other things that aren\u2019t actually learning, like effort or \u2018work ethic,\u2019 whatever that means.\u201d\u201cAll you right wing conspiracy theory nut jobs who seem to think the teachers are out here just\u00a0indoctrinating children into some sort of woke agenda that you can\u2019t actually define, I\u2019m just going to come clean,\u201d Godbout says. \u201cI am, in fact, indoctrinating your children.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m indoctrinating children into understanding their own agency and learning how to think critically about the issues that impact their lives\u2026 I am indoctrinating children into wanting to be productive citizens of the world\u2026 So that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing. I\u2019m indoctrinating them. You\u2019re 100% right.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to a commenter who asks why she appears so angry, Godbout says believes conservatives \u201care legitimately trying to bring down our democracy,\u201d create \u201ca Christian nationalist theocracy\u201d and \u201cliterally un-alive people.\u201d Thus, they aren\u2019t worthy of respect.<\/p>\n

In a follow-up video, Godbout complains she is the latest \u201cteacher on TikTok\u201d targeted by Fox News Digital. But she says while Fox News\u2019s article about her is supposed to be \u201cinsulting,\u201d she doesn\u2019t actually consider it so.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m fine \u2026 my administrators fully support my First Amendment rights to free speech on my own social media platforms,\u201d Godbout says. She notes she\u2019s received only a few \u201cnasty-grams\u201d from people who had bothered to look up her school email, including one from a \u201cPhil McCracken.\u201d<\/p>\n

Godbout also points out given how strong tenure and teachers\u2019 unions are in Illinois, any controversy over her remarks have been but a \u201cblip.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIve really had no negative repercussions,\u201d she says. \u201cBut \u2026 this brings up the larger point about teachers and our ability to speak truth to power and to try to make sure we are creating schools that are, um, equitable and safe and helping to create the society we all want to live in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Godbout claims queer teachers, teachers of color and teachers who work in union-weak states face a \u201cchilling effect\u201d with (right-leaning) news outlets reporting on them: \u201cAll of this \u2026 bullying is designed to shut us up so that [conservatives] can continue to push their agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
