Amazing when compared to Missouri, Kansas and a few other states who went from no carry, to shall carry, to permitless in relatively short order<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2023\/01\/constitutional-carry-bill-introduced-in-florida\/#axzz7ruy85Zsu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Constitutional Carry\u2019 Bill Introduced in Florida<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S.A.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"47ea1ba96682f451592b08247d5de767\">-(AmmoLand.com)-<\/a>\u00a0Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Court, along with sponsors from the House and Senate, introduced HB 543 Monday morning, a \u201cConstitutional Carry\u201d bill that Renner said gets \u201crid of the need for a government permission slip\u201d to carry a concealed handgun.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers were accompanied by Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, president of the Florida Sheriff\u2019s Association, and other Florida Sheriff\u2019s.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-17\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1671218810065-0\" data-google-query-id=\"CMPJ_Nyo8PwCFT2Q0QQdMWoGCw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22702991301\/ammoland_multisize_textad_0__container__\"><span style=\"font-size: 23px; font-weight: 900;\">The bill, which has also been described as \u201cunlicensed concealed carry\u201d removes the requirement for Floridians to obtain a Concealed Weapon Firearm License, or CWFL, before carrying a concealed handgun. The bill does not change the prohibitions or exceptions for open carry in the state.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe don\u2019t operate in a vacuum. What\u2019s happening in our society now is Defund the Police 2.0,\u201d Renner said. \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s ever been a time in my history on earth that we\u2019ve needed the right to keep and bear arms more than now.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey thanked Renner and the bill\u2019s sponsors for the legislation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis bill is an important piece of legislation for our citizens to have the ability to protect themselves. Criminals don\u2019t go get a permit,\u201d Ivey said. \u201cFlorida Sheriffs stand solidly behind this.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bill sponsor Senator Jay Collins, R-Tampa, an Army Special Forces veteran, described the legislation as a \u201cmonumental moment\u201d and a \u201cmajor breakthrough for our freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy very first lesson as a Green Beret was that it is incumbent on each of us to leave things better than we found them,\u201d Collins said. \u201cWe will take a monumental step to ensure that government does not interfere with a law-abiding citizen\u2019s ability to protect their family.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bill sponsor Rep. Chuck Brannan, R-Macclenny, said the bill won\u2019t change \u201cwho can and cannot carry a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>CWFLs, he said, will still be available for Floridians who travel out-of-state and want reciprocity.<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPeople don\u2019t have to carry if they don\u2019t want to. This is a constitutional right people have,\u201d Brannan said. \u201cCriminals are getting guns anyway. They don\u2019t care what the law says. We\u2019re only giving law-abiding citizens a simple way to get a firearm.
