Like how that State’s Attorney (More commonly called a Prosecutor for the rest of us) slyly moves the goalpost of self defense so he can slide in ‘hurt feelings’? I’ve found very few prosecutors that like the idea that they can have their hands tied, legally speaking, from exercising every bit of power they have just exactly how they want?<\/p>\n

Shooting at Roanoke supermarket reveals \u201csubstantial evidence\u201d showing self-defense<\/a><\/p>\n

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – WDBJ7 has learned new details about a shooting over the weekend at a\u00a0Food Lion<\/a>\u00a0in Northwest Roanoke. Roanoke City\u2019s commonwealth\u2019s attorney told WDBJ7 the suspect was released because there is a substantial argument for self defense.<\/p>\n

Saturday night, there was a disagreement at the store on Peters Creek Road. Investigators say one man threw a punch at another man, who then took out his gun and shot several times.<\/p>\n

He hit the person who initiated the fight and a woman who was caught in the middle. The woman\u2019s injuries were not life-threatening, but Roanoke Police said the man\u2019s injuries were serious.<\/p>\n

The commonwealth\u2019s attorney explained the store\u2019s surveillance video will help investigators determine if this was self defense.<\/p>\n

\u201dThat\u2019s where it becomes a fine line; does a person have to stand there and take a beating or get beat up, or if they are armed, can they use deadly force to repel the attack?\u201d Donald Caldwell said. \u201cThat will be a decision that we\u2019ll have to get the actual video from the Food Lion and watch and make those determinations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man who fired the gun stayed on scene and cooperated with police. Caldwell explained cooperation is rare in situations like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe predicate act for using a gun has just become so low is there\u2019s almost no bar,\u201d Caldwell said. \u201cHurt feelings now, among some members of our society, justify using a gun. It is just a sad state of affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commonwealth\u2019s attorney also stated the man who started the fight could face charges for assault and battery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
