{"id":91424,"date":"2023-03-30T18:58:44","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T23:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=91424"},"modified":"2023-03-30T18:58:44","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T23:58:44","slug":"91424","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=91424","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quip O&#8217; The Day:<br \/>\n<em>The AI to really be afraid of is the one that<strong> deliberately fails<\/strong> the Turing Test<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/chatgpt-has-passed-the-turing-test-and-if-youre-freaked-out-youre-not-alone\">ChatGPT has passed the Turing test and if you\u2019re freaked out, you\u2019re not alone.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite just releasing\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/features\/5-ways-the-gpt-4-update-will-make-chatgpt-even-smarter-and-scarier\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>ChatGPT-4<\/u><\/a>, OpenAI is already working on the fifth iteration of the immensely popular chat application, GPT-5. According to a new report from\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/bgr.com\/tech\/gpt-5-might-make-chatgpt-indistinguishable-from-a-human\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/bgr.com\/tech\/gpt-5-might-make-chatgpt-indistinguishable-from-a-human\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">BGR<\/a>, we could be seeing those major upgrades as soon as the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>One milestone, in particular, could be within reach if this turns out to be true: the ability to be indistinguishable from humans in conversation. And it doesn\u2019t help that we\u2019ve\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/sure-keep-training-bard-and-chatgpt-until-they-no-longer-need-us\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>essentially been training this AI chatbot<\/u><\/a>\u00a0with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of conversations a day.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" data-widget-id=\"d76365d9-e7e3-4f9b-919b-5a2eac9c4b31\" data-result=\"missing\"><\/aside>\n<p>Computer and AI pioneer Alan Turing famously proposed a test for artificial intelligence that if you could speak to a computer and not know that you weren&#8217;t speaking to a human, the computer could be said to be artificially intelligent. With OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT, we&#8217;ve certainly crossed that threshold to a large degree (it can still be occassionally wonky, but so can humans), but for everyday use, ChatGPT passes this test.<\/p>\n<div id=\"desktop-in-article\" class=\"in-article ad-unit\">\n<div id=\"desktop-taboola-mid-article\">Considering the meteoric rise and development of <a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/chatgpt-explained\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>ChatGPT<\/u><\/a>\u00a0technology since its debut in November 2022, the rumors of even greater advances are likely to be true. And while seeing such tech improve so quickly can be exciting,\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/features\/i-made-chatgpt-talk-to-itself-and-the-results-werent-what-i-expected\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>hilarious<\/u><\/a>, and\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/i-asked-bing-bard-and-chatgpt-to-solve-my-anger-issues-and-the-results-surprised-me\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>sometimes insightful<\/u><\/a>, there are also plenty of dangers and legal pitfalls that can easily cause harm.<\/div>\n<div>For instance, the amount of <a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/chatgpt-is-being-used-to-lure-victims-into-downloading-malware\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>malware scams being pushed<\/u><\/a>\u00a0has steadily increased since the chatbot tech\u2019s introduction, and its rapid integration into applications calls into question\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/opinion\/discords-ai-features-violate-our-privacy-and-its-time-we-pushed-back\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>privacy and data collection issues<\/u><\/a>, not to mention\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/features\/hike-in-ai-generated-sci-fi-submissions-proves-we-need-tougher-regulations-now\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>rampant plagiarism issues<\/u><\/a>. But it\u2019s not just me seeing the issue with ChatGPT being pushed so rapidly and aggressively. Tech leaders and experts in AI have also been sounding the alarm.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"ai-development-needs-to-be-culled\">AI development needs to be culled<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>Future of Life Institute<\/u><\/a>\u00a0(FLI), an organization that is dedicated to minimizing the risk and misuse of new technologies, has published an\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/open-letter\/pause-giant-ai-experiments\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/open-letter\/pause-giant-ai-experiments\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>open letter<\/u><\/a>\u00a0calling for AI labs and companies to immediately halt their work on OpenAI systems beyond ChatGPT-4. Notable figures like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and OpenAI co-founder Elon Musk have agreed that progress should be paused in order to ensure that people can enjoy existing systems and that said systems are benefiting everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The letter states: &#8220;Unfortunately, this level of planning and management is not happening, even though recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one \u2013 not even their creators \u2013 can understand, predict, or reliably control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019re seeing, the rush for companies to integrate and use this new technology is causing a plethora of issues. These include\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/media\/2023\/01\/17\/cnet-ai-articles-journalism-corrections\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/media\/2023\/01\/17\/cnet-ai-articles-journalism-corrections\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>CNET using it<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to generate articles that sometimes contained inaccuracies, to\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/when-chatgpt-went-down-it-might-have-taken-your-credit-card-details-with-it\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>credit card information potentially being leaked on ChatGPT<\/u><\/a>. There\u2019s very little being done in the way of protecting privacy, intellectual property rights of smart artists, or preventing personal information stored from leaking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And until we get some kind of handle on this developing technology and how companies using it do so safely and responsibly, then development should pause until we do.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quip O&#8217; The Day: The AI to really be afraid of is the one that deliberately fails the Turing Test.
