Democrat Senator Says People Will \u2018Revolt\u2019 If Supreme Court Blocks Gun Control.<\/a><\/p>\n Senator\u00a0Chris Murphy\u00a0(D-CT) claimed over the weekend that the American people would \u201crevolt\u201d if the United States Supreme Court continued to block new gun control laws.<\/p>\n Murphy made the comments to NBC\u2019s Chuck Todd during Sunday morning\u2019s broadcast of \u201cMeet the Press\u201d \u2014 after which he dug in even further, going on to attack the credibility and legitimacy of the current court.<\/p>\n Murphy referenced a 2022 Supreme Court decision \u2014 authored by Clarence Thomas in the 6-3 majority \u2014 that\u00a0struck down<\/a>\u00a0New York\u2019s restrictions on concealed carry, along with the\u00a0more recent decision<\/a>\u00a0from Virginia District Court Judge Robert Payne. Payne ruled that a ban on gun sales for 18-20-year-olds would effectively impose restrictions on certain citizens that \u201cdo not exist with other constitutional guarantees.\u201d<\/p>\n Complaining that the courts had often halted any progress toward stricter gun control measures by interfering in anything legislators were able to get done, Murphy said, \u201cIf the Supreme Court eventually says that states or the Congress can\u2019t pass universal background checks or can\u2019t take these assault weapons off the streets, I think there\u2019s going to be a popular revolt over that policy.\u201d<\/p>\n The Connecticut Senator then turned his attack on the Supreme Court directly, adding, \u201cA court that\u2019s already pretty illegitimate, is going to be in full crisis mode.\u201d He went on to promise that legislators would continue to \u201cregulate who owns weapons and what kind of weapons are owned\u201d \u2014 with or without pushback from the courts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" To these types, the court become ‘illegitimate’ when it rules opposite to what they want.
