{"id":92857,"date":"2023-05-16T10:12:43","date_gmt":"2023-05-16T15:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=92857"},"modified":"2023-05-16T10:14:42","modified_gmt":"2023-05-16T15:14:42","slug":"92857","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=92857","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mendacious Media, but I repeat myself<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2023\/05\/nbc-pushing-lies-about-the-most-popular-rifle-in-america-again\/#axzz81t2URZtw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC Pushing Lies About the Most Popular Rifle in America, \u2026.Again<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In their latest hit piece about an inanimate object, NBC News once again ignores facts, common sense and takes frequent liberties with the truth.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-17\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1671218810065-0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/ar-15-rifle-mass-shootings-semiautomatic-weapon-rcna84193\" data-uri=\"4b25b39964f2dea15e78101ddb02fa4b\">The story<\/a>, which was somehow labeled\u00a0<em>news<\/em>\u00a0rather than\u00a0<em>opinion<\/em>, was published Sunday, titled: \u201cWhat makes the AR-15 so beloved and so reviled: A rifle with military origins has become one of the country\u2019s most divisive consumer products.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>For the two reporters, problems began from the start. The headline is misleading \u2013 the\u00a0<em>military origins<\/em>\u00a0bit. Even the Poynter Institute, a journalism think tank infamous for its anti-gun stories and its liberal and laughable PolitiFact website, takes issue with this claim.<\/p>\n<p>In a story\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poynter.org\/fact-checking\/2022\/what-is-ar15-rifle-history-of-firearm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-uri=\"bf5336c5133c7eb201825a6c58dd43ec\">published last year<\/a>, Poynter tracked the origins of the AR-15 and found it was\u00a0<em>\u201cfirst developed in the 1950s for civilian use.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1681151438500-0\" data-google-query-id=\"CMyAmY6P-v4CFZXRKAUd9OcJDg\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22702991301\/Ammoland\/AL_In-Content_2_0__container__\">\n<div id=\"AmmolandDFPAdParallaxerCont_138430745698\">\n<div>\n<div>Poynter understands that today\u2019s civilian semi-automatic AR has never been a military rifle. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2011\/10\/historical-review-of-armalite\/\" rel=\"\" data-uri=\"23e33f866f2266433d302b0acd6b6a29\">Eugene Stoner\u2019s original AR-15 prototype<\/a>, which later became the M16, was a select-fire weapon. The civilian version has always been semi-automatic. Thus, it was never designed for battle. It was designed for the civilian marketplace. No military has issued a semi-auto AR to their troops.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong style=\"font-size: 23px;\">Gaslighting<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In their story, NBC News gaslights its readers about the effectiveness of Bill Clinton\u2019s \u201cassault weapon\u201d ban, which for ten years banned the manufacture, sale, or transfer of a large number of \u201cassault weapons,\u201d including several handguns and standard-capacity magazines. Joe Biden has frequently taken credit for the ban and falsely claimed it \u201cbrought down these mass killings,\u201d which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/03\/factchecking-bidens-claim-that-assault-weapons-ban-worked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-uri=\"44663462ea52d83095d10a1d16e9db08\">fact-checkers have repeatedly said is a false statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cThe effects of bans on mass shootings are difficult to determine. Researchers have found that the number of victims decreased when a nationwide ban on certain kinds of semi-automatic guns, including AR-15s, was in effect from 1994 to 2004,\u201d the NBC story states. \u201cResearchers also say the number of mass shootings rose after the ban ended. But they acknowledge that it is difficult to prove cause and effect.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is complete bunk. A study commissioned by the Department of Justice in 2004 found no evidence that the ban had any effect on \u201cgun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cShould it be renewed,\u201d the DOJ study states, \u201cthe ban\u2019s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1681151478485-0\" data-google-query-id=\"CM2AmY6P-v4CFZXRKAUd9OcJDg\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22702991301\/Ammoland\/AL_In-Content_3_0__container__\">NBC claimed that researchers with the RAND Corporation \u201clooked at several studies of state and federal bans and found the evidence inconclusive.\u201d RAND\u2019s findings were actually a bit more concrete. They found no link between bans of \u201cassault weapons\u201d and standard-capacity magazines and decreases in violent crime.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>BREAKING NEWS!!:\u00a0<em>Rifles More Powerful Than Pistols<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes the ignorance of today\u2019s legacy media is simply stunning, especially when they\u2019re writing about firearms.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cCompared to handguns, AR-15s inflict much more damage to human tissue because of the faster speed at which the rifles fire bullets. Those projectiles are also more likely to break apart as they pass through the body, inflicting more damage. That makes victims more likely to have more serious injuries and more blood loss and more likely to die than with guns that fire with lower velocities,\u201d the NBC story states.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Wow.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Don\u2019t tell them about the .30-06, the 8mm Mauser, the 7.62x54mmR, the 7.62x51mm NATO, or any other military-issue rifle round, especially the .50 BMG.<\/p>\n<p>As to whether the round breaks apart, even the most novice shooter knows that a bullet\u2019s performance \u2013 whether it bores a clean hole through the target or expands after impact \u2013 is not a characteristic of the weapon but of the ammunition that\u2019s fed into the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Their high-velocity theory leaves a lot to be desired, too. I wonder how they\u2019d explain the wounds that a 1911\u2019s 230-grain fight-stopper can cause, even though the bullet\u2019s traveling at a third of the speed of a \u201chigh velocity\u201d AR round.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>There\u2019s a reason that ballistics is considered a science, and the authors of this story \u2026 well \u2026 these kids are definitely not scientists.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Fake News Liars<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The authors cite a 2022 investigation by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform into the firearm industry\u2019s marketing campaigns, which they acknowledge was led by Democrats. According to the authors\u2019 interpretation of the investigation, gun companies \u201ctout assault rifles\u2019 military pedigree, make covert references to violent white supremacists like the Boogaloo Boys, and prey on young men\u2019s insecurities by claiming their weapons will put them \u2018at the top of the testosterone food chain.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For anyone with even the most meager knowledge of firearms and how they\u2019re marketed, this absolutely screams fake news. It may be the second-dumbest concept in the entire story, but first place goes to this gem: \u201c<em>The (AR) issue has split the nation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Nope.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The AR \u201cissue\u201d has definitely not split the nation. ARs are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.avantlink.com\/click.php?tt=ale&amp;ti=12969&amp;pri=0&amp;pw=9441&amp;mi=19053&amp;ctc=Brownells-ALE&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kygunco.com%2Fproduct%2Fradical-firearms-fr16-5.56soc-15rpr-16-socom-5.56mm-ar-rifle-b5-bravo-stock%3Favad%3D9441_b308f3785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc,nofollow\" data-uri=\"acb8df4a81f9b4037681361854799966\">flying off the shelves<\/a>\u00a0for a variety of good reasons. There are more than 25 million AR rifles in gun safes all across the country. It became \u201cAmerica\u2019s Rifle\u201d a long time ago. The only people on the\u00a0<em>other<\/em> side of the issue are those who want to demonize the inanimate object and use it as a cudgel to leverage more gun control. This is all part of their playbook. They\u2019re targeting ARs today. Tomorrow they\u2019ll target all semi-autos; the next day, everything else.
