MAKES ALL-CALL FOR GUN CONTROL, FAILS ON THE BASICS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham knows exactly where to go to get fawning media coverage and an agreeable viewing audience for her all-call gun control platform.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Lujan Grisham\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2023\/05\/20\/nm-gov-grisham-people-shouldnt-own-ar-15s-because-they-shouldnt-own-an-automatic-weapon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>joined MSNBC\u2019s Morning Joe<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0just days following the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/21\/new-mexico-gunman-beau-wilson-fell-off-earth-before-massacre-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">murders<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of three innocent Americans by a mentally troubled 18-year old. She knew there would be no serious pushback or correcting by the host of her false statements about firearms and lies about the firearm industry.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, that was most likely her goal. And, sadly, its standard operating procedure for much of what passes these days for \u201cmainstream media\u201d and journalism.<\/p>\n<h4>Facts and Details<\/h4>\n<p>Gov. Lujan Grisham\u2019s support for gun control restrictions is already well-known. It\u2019s why she was\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vugyv788LjQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in consideration<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to be President Joe Biden\u2019s running mate back in 2019. One of the pillar planks of the Governor\u2019s platform is to ban the possession, sale and transfer of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) in New Mexico. There are currently more than\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/commonly-owned-nssf-announces-over-24-million-msrs-in-circulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">24.4 million<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in circulation since 1990. That means they are more commonly-owned than there are Ford F-150 pickup trucks. I\u2019d venture you couldn\u2019t drive five minutes in New Mexico without seeing an F-150 on the road.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"entered lazyloaded\" title=\"Demanding Women: Quarantine Conversations About Gun Violence with Michelle Lujan Grisholm\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vugyv788LjQ?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-rocket-lazyload=\"fitvidscompatible\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vugyv788LjQ?feature=oembed\" data-ll-status=\"loaded\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>New Mexico\u2019s governor started with the \u201cweapons of war\u201d false allegations to demonize all lawful ownership because of the crazed acts of a lone, mentally disturbed individual.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a weapon of war\u2026Frankly, no one that isn\u2019t in the military\u2026or trained police department, in my view, no one in America\u2026should own an automatic weapon,\u201d Gov. Lujan Grisham said. \u201cThere is no reason to own one of those.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a common tell of how quickly gun control advocates push for more restrictions over the rights of Americans, the governor added she\u2019s still looking for answers following the tragedy. Specifically, she\u2019s looking for answers that indict the firearm and not the crazed criminal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have any of the details yet,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s one. The AR-15 isn\u2019t an automatic firearm. Facts are important and the governor ignores them or simply isn\u2019t bothered about lying to viewers. Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) are not \u201cautomatic weapons\u201d as the governor suggests. MSRs are semiautomatic rifles and use the same one-trigger-pull-one-round-expended firing technology that has been in existence for over a century. It\u2019s also the same technology used by thousands of varieties of handguns and shotguns. Semiautomatic firearms are used every day by millions of law-abiding Americans for self-defense, hunting and recreation and it\u2019s their Constitutional right to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Automatic firearms are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/msr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>highly regulated<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and are subject to all local, state and federal regulations, including the 1968 Gun Control Act and the 1934 National Firearms Act.<\/p>\n<h4>Gun Control\u2019s Favored Lie<\/h4>\n<p>Gov. Lujan Grisham answered questions to throw out all the gun control priorities she could think of. It wouldn\u2019t make for a successful media appearance if she didn\u2019t repeat one of gun control\u2019s favorite lies \u2013 that the firearm industry has immunity from lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also looking at, you know, legislation that didn\u2019t pass our last legislative session, to go after gun manufacturers,\u201d the governor added.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s talking about repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). President Biden utters the claim that firearm manufacturers have \u201cimmunity\u201d from lawsuits but they don\u2019t. Gov. Lujan Grisham\u2019s staff should show her the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/president-biden-repeats-his-gun-control-lies-in-first-state-of-the-union-address\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">numerous fact checks<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by Washington Post, PolitiFact, CNN, the Associated Press and others who have all stated the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssf.org\/articles\/president-biden-repeats-his-gun-control-lies-in-first-state-of-the-union-address\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claim is false<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>PLCAA is bipartisan legislation signed by President George W. Bush that simply codifies bedrock principles of tort law. It bars lawsuits against members of the firearm industry from those seeking to blame them for the criminal misuse by remote third persons \u2013 or criminals \u2013 of lawfully sold, non-defective firearms. It\u2019s no surprise the effort to repeal the PLCAA in New Mexico failed, though the governor vowed to keep trying.<\/p>\n<h4>Age-Based Ban<\/h4>\n<p>In this country, when an American turns 18 years old, they are recognized by the law as being an adult and are fully vested in their Constitutional rights. They can vote, they can marry and have children, they can serve in the military, they can make decisions in their lives on their own. That includes purchasing a firearm for self-protection or any number of legal reasons. Gov. Lujan Grisham wants to change that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have an issue with young people\u2026 having access to firearms at all,\u201d the governor explained. \u201cI think we need to raise that age, I\u2019m going to ask for that again and expect to win it in the legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor may want to take a look around and wait on that demand. Florida enacted a law that banned the sale of all firearms to individuals aged 18-20 years old and that is currently being challenged in the courts in\u00a0<em>NRA v. Bondi<\/em>. NSSF filed an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nssf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2023-04-06-74-UnopposedMotionforLeavetoFileAmicusBrief.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amicus brief<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in support of the NRA\u2019s petition for a rehearing en banc in the case, arguing the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for self-defense includes the right to acquire those arms.<\/p>\n<p>The laundry list of gun control restrictions favored by Gov. Lujan Grisham was lengthy. Some of her neighboring states \u2013 namely California, or others like Illinois and New York \u2013 already impose nearly everything she recited as her goals. And yet in those states, criminals continue to disregard the law.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Lujan Grisham should take a closer look at getting tough on criminals and holding them accountable for their crimes instead of pushing for more unconstitutional laws that will be ignored and only impact New Mexicans who already follow laws.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GUN CONTROL GOV.
