Gun Controllers\u2019 Real Goal Revealed<\/a><\/p>\n

Though gun controllers often hide behind the ever-shifting goalposts of what they claim are \u201ccommon-sense solutions,\u201d sometimes their true goals slip right out into the open.<\/p>\n

Such a case occurred when former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.), in a recent\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Time<\/em>, made the true goal of the gun-control group Giffords clear when she said, \u201cNo more guns.\u201d<\/p>\n

An aide tried to clarify that the former congresswoman means \u201cno more gun violence. But Giffords interjects with, \u201cNo, no, no. Lord, no,\u201d pauses for half a minute, then continues with, \u201cGuns, guns, guns. No more guns. Gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

An aide then tries to clarify that Giffords was referring to Australia, \u201cwhere gun sales were outlawed,,,and existing weapons were purchased by the government.\u201d But even that is not even remotely accurate, While the civilian possession of semi-automatic firearms in Australia was largely banned in 1996, the country did not ban all firearms. Furthermore, the bans that were enacted have had trouble being enforced and, beyond that, they have also had little to no effect on violent crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeveral\u00a0reports\u00a0<\/a>from the early 2000s estimate that\u00a0only\u00a020%<\/a>\u00a0or so\u00a0of the banned firearms had been confiscated,\u201d Amy Swearer\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0of Australia\u2019s gun-control efforts for\u00a0America\u2019s 1st<\/sup>\u00a0Freedom<\/em>. \u201cMoreover, while firearm suicides dropped in Australia after the confiscation effort, there was little meaningful effect on the\u00a0overall suicide\u00a0rate<\/a>. Another evaluation\u00a0found no\u00a0effect<\/a>\u00a0on homicides or accidental deaths, despite claims to the contrary.<\/p>\n

Despite the overwhelming evidence of its ineffectiveness, Australia\u2019s gun-control efforts are still often praised by anti-Second Amendment advocates. This is not to mention that such bans would certainly be unconstitutional stateside.<\/p>\n

In response to Giffords\u2019 remarks, John Lott, president and CEO of the Crime Prevention Research Center,\u00a0wrote<\/a>, \u201cGun control advocates usually don\u2019t call for banning all guns even though that has been obvious to everyone else, but at least they aren\u2019t hiding what they want anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that they are pointing to Australia as an example where guns have been banned is depressing because they really believe that a gun ban reduces crime\u00a0when all gun and handgun bans are associated with increased murder rates\u00a0and\u00a0Australia never banned all guns,\u201d added Lott.<\/p>\n
