preorders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0California\u00a0company building\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/08\/28\/japans-flying-car-soars-in-test-flight-with-person-aboard\/\">a flying electric car<\/a>\u00a0is now taking preorders.<\/p>\n<p>Alef Aeronautics\u2019 flying car has been given a\u00a0Special Airworthiness Certification\u00a0from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), meaning the company will be allowed to road\/air test the car, the company said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0fully-electric vehicle\u00a0(with a hydrogen option for a higher price) is a low-speed vehicle that can be driven up to 200 miles on public roads and fits into a regular garage, but it can also launch vertically into the air with a flying range of 110 miles, according to Alef\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s \u201cModel A\u201d car \u201ccan fly forward above the obstacles until a desired destination is reached,\u201d the San Mateo-based company says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver and the cabin are stabilized by a unique gimbaled rotating cabin design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alef touts the car\u2019s ability to avoid traffic,\u00a0fly in any direction\u00a0while giving a \u201ccinematic 180 plus degree view for safe and enjoyable flight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Customers can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alef.aero\/preorder.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">preorder the vehicle,<\/a>\u00a0which can seat up to two people is expected to cost around $300,000.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><button Business<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An FAA spokesperson told Fox Business it \u201cissued a\u00a0Special Airworthiness Certificate\u00a0for the Armada Model Zero aircraft on June 12, 2023. This certificate allows the aircraft to be used for limited purposes, including exhibition, research and development.\u00a0This is not the first aircraft of its kind for which the FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alef first unveiled the car last October, and said it has already taken a \u201cstrong\u201d number of preorders from people and businesses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/14\/new-airplanes-must-have-extra-barrier-to-protect-pilots-faa\/\">The FAA<\/a>\u00a0is working on policies for the takeoff and landing of electric vehicles, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to receive this certification from the FAA,\u201d Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny, who co-founded the company in 2015, said in a
