Two would-be robbers were killed in an attempted jugging Friday<\/a><\/p>\n

Two men are dead after police say an attempted jugging went wrong Friday near South Park Mall. [in San Antonio]<\/p>\n

Police Chief William McManus said the target, a man in his 20s, was withdrawing money at a drive-through Chase ATM at about noon at 2310 Southwest Military Drive.<\/p>\n

The man saw the two suspects approaching him, one on foot and the other in a sedan.<\/p>\n

He pulled out a handgun and shot both of them, killing them.<\/p>\n

The chief declined to say what the suspects told the man in the moments leading up to the robbery. Asked whether weapons were found on the suspected robbers, McManus said, \u201cWe\u2019re still looking at that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The chief said it appeared to be a \u201cjugging\u201d case, in which thieves target someone known to be withdrawing a large sum of money.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a trend throughout the country right now,\u201d the chief said. \u201cWe believe at this point \u2014 and this could change \u2014 that this is a jugging incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

McManus said detectives are interviewing the man involved Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

As for criminal charges, the chief said that\u2019s \u201cnot what I\u2019m looking at right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no continuing danger to anyone in the area,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a robbery that didn\u2019t go well for the robbers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
