{"id":95380,"date":"2023-08-23T16:58:55","date_gmt":"2023-08-23T21:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=95380"},"modified":"2023-08-23T16:58:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T21:58:55","slug":"95380","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=95380","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To make it to this level of competition, you have to be<em> really<\/em> good.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dvidshub.net\/news\/451333\/12-us-soldiers-compete-issf-world-championships-baku\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12 U.S. Soldiers Compete in ISSF World Championships in Baku<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Twelve Soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit will compete in the 2023 International Shooting Sports Federation World Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan August 14 &#8211; September 1 as part of USA Shooting\u2019s 40 athlete-team.<\/p>\n<p>The ISSF World Championships includes a number of rifle, pistol and shotgun events where more than 1200 athletes from 101 nations will vie for the title of World Champion in their shooting discipline. It is also an opportunity for shooting sports athletes to earn U.S. Olympic Quotas for the 2024 Paris Games.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic Quotas are essentially tickets, or slots, for a country to compete at the Olympics in a specific event. Each country is eligible for two athletes to compete in each event at the Games.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, USA Shooting athletes have earned 15 Paris quotas. Seven of those quotes were earned at prior international competitions by the USAMU Soldiers stationed at Fort Moore, Georgia.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The USAMU Soldiers who are competing at the World Championships (and their events) are:<\/p>\n<p>Sgt. Ivan Roe from Bozeman, Montana &#8211; Men\u2019s 10m Air Rifle &amp; Men\u2019s 50m Smallbore<br \/>\nStaff Sgt. Patrick Sunderman from Farmington, Minnesota &#8211; Men\u2019s 50m Smallbore<br \/>\nSgt. Tim Sherry from Evergreen, Colorado &#8211; Men\u2019s 50m Smallbore &amp; 300m Rifle<br \/>\nSgt. Alison Weisz from Belgrade, Montana &#8211; Women\u2019s 10m Air Rifle<br \/>\nSgt. Sagen Maddalena from Groveland, California &#8211; Women\u2019s 10m Air Rifle &amp; Women\u2019s 50m Smallbore<br \/>\nSpc. Samantha Simonton from Gainesville, Georgia &#8211; Women\u2019s Skeet<br \/>\nStaff Sgt. Christian Elliott from Greenwood, Indiana &#8211; Men\u2019s Skeet<br \/>\nStaff Sgt. Dustan Taylor from Greensboro, North Carolina &#8211; Men\u2019s Skeet<br \/>\nSgt. Alicia Gough from Burlington, Wisconsin &#8211; Women\u2019s Trap<br \/>\nSgt. Rachel Tozier from Pattonsburg, Missouri &#8211; Women\u2019s Trap<br \/>\nStaff Sgt. Derek Haldeman from Sunbury, Ohio &#8211; Men\u2019s Trap<br \/>\nStaff Sgt. Will Hinton from Lawrenceville, Georgia &#8211; Men\u2019s Trap<\/p>\n<p>In the events that the USAMU Soldiers compete in, there are three outstanding Olympic Quotas (Men\u2019s 10m Air Rifle, Men\u2019s 50m Smallbore, Women\u2019s Trap) and its the Soldiers\u2019 mission to earn those.<\/p>\n<p>The ISSF World Championship schedule can be viewed at https:\/\/www.issf-sports.org\/competitions\/venue\/schedule.ashx?cshipid=3085 and is in local Baku time.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the Finals will be aired live and can be found at https:\/\/www.issf-sports.org\/competitions\/venue\/finalslivebroadcastschedule.ashx?cshipid=3085&amp;fbclid=IwAR3-ae1t2TjVgdrLndQ3rB9Ep1SXHPYHjU5NUOGHqnVBX1S4NUuIHZY__MI.
