One of the biggest takeaways from the viral Colorado story of the school booting a 12-year-old out of class for having a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack is that the folks in charge are ignorant not just of free-speech basics, but fundamentals of US history.<\/p>\n

How can they teach when they\u2019re wrong about simple facts?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A top\u00a0administrator\u00a0<\/em>at the Vanguard charter school is on tape\u00a0lecturing that the flag has<\/a>\u00a0\u201cslavery and the slave trade\u201d origins, making the palm-sized patch was \u201cdisruptive to the classroom environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

A 10-second Google reveals the truth; the flag\u2019s not about slavery at all.<\/p>\n

Known for its rattlesnake and \u201cDon\u2019t tread on me\u201d slogan, it originated during the American Revolution \u2014 a topic the school spends a\u00a0year\u00a0<\/em>on in history class.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, young Jaiden Rodriguez\u2019s\u00a0teacher\u00a0<\/em>toed the administration line in pulling him out of the classroom. That is, she supported ignorance, not her student being victimized by it.<\/p>\n

The school\u2019s fallback was to retroactively make an issue of his many semiautomatic-gun patches on the same backpack; they\u2019re gone, and he\u2019s back in class.<\/p>\n

Known for its rattlesnake and \u201cDon\u2019t tread on me\u201d slogan, the flag originated during the American Revolution.<\/p>\n

And Vanguard has eaten its words on the flag (wise, as even Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat called out the mistake<\/a>).<\/p>\n

So far, though, it hasn\u2019t explained its institutional idiocy. Chances are it\u2019s intentional. Progressives have been pushing a distorted view of American history for years, demonizing everything from the National Anthem to the flag to the Constitution.
