{"id":96193,"date":"2023-09-21T14:46:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-21T19:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=96193"},"modified":"2023-09-21T14:46:16","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T19:46:16","slug":"96193","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=96193","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-judge-rejects-hunter-biden-request-to-appear-in-court-via-video-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Judge Rejects Hunter Biden Request To Appear In Court Via Video Conference<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A federal judge rejected a request from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter Biden\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0legal team this week to allow the president\u2019s son to make his arraignment on federal gun charges through a video conference instead of having to show up in person.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Magistrate Judge from the District of Delaware Christopher Burke\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23986952-ruling-on-hunter-biden-arraignment\">rejected<\/a> the request in an order on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Burke gave multiple reasons for denying, including that the Court believes the appearance in important because its one of the few times that the defendant will physically be in the courtroom and the setting \u201chelps to emphasize the \u2018integrity and solemnity of a federal criminal proceeding.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Special Counsel David Weiss indicted Hunter Biden earlier this month on three charges related to the purchase of a firearm, including allegedly making multiple false statements, and being unlawfully in possession of a firearm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, in this matter, most of the criminal charges that Defendant now faces are new and were not addressed at his prior hearing in July 2023-such that this will be the first time they are discussed in court,\u201d Burke wrote. \u201cThe Court will also address Defendant\u2019s pre-trial release conditions; while the Court expects it is likely that the currently-imposed conditions will remain in place, were either side to suggest alterations, the Court would want to be able to address that issue in person with the parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther than during the exigent circumstances of the COVID crisis (when the Court was proceeding under the auspices of the now-expired CARES Act standing order), in 12 years as a judge on this Court, the undersigned cannot recall ever having conducted an initial appearance other than in person,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat has been the case as to defendants of all types, regardless of their location or personal circumstance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burke used the words from Hunter Biden\u2019s legal team against him, saying that he agrees that Hunter Biden \u201cshould not receive special treatment in this matter-absent some unusual circumstance, he should be treated just as would any other defendant in our Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>\u201cAny other defendant would be required to attend his or her initial appearance in person,\u201d he said. \u201cSo too here.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Federal Judge Rejects Hunter Biden Request To Appear In Court Via Video Conference A federal judge rejected a request from\u00a0Hunter Biden\u2019s\u00a0legal team this week to allow the president\u2019s son to make his arraignment on federal gun charges through a video conference instead of having to show up in person.
