{"id":96296,"date":"2023-09-25T17:02:29","date_gmt":"2023-09-25T22:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=96296"},"modified":"2023-09-25T17:02:29","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T22:02:29","slug":"96296","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=96296","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-desc\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlesglasser.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Glasser &#8211;\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post:\u00a0<em>We have to destroy the First Amendment in order to save it.<\/em>\u00a0In what has to be the most blockheaded analysis I\u2019ve read in years, The Post ran a story this afternoon titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/09\/23\/online-misinformation-jim-jordan\/\"><em>Misinformation research is buckling under GOP legal attacks<\/em><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Of course<\/em>\u00a0the conservatives and libertarians are leading the charge. It\u2019s the fight against government coercing, cajoling or even cooperating with publishers (electronic and otherwise) to suppress right-leaning views.<\/p>\n<p>To paraphrase James Carville: \u201c<em>It\u2019s the Constitution, Stupid<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The people who want to censor the right have put a new dress on their pig. \u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0painted it thusly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cThe escalating campaign \u2014 led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and other Republicans in Congress and state government \u2014 has cast a pall over programs that study not just political falsehoods but also the quality of medical information online.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201c<em>See, we have a First Amendment right to figure out how to suppress others\u2019 speech. We\u2019re the\u00a0<strong>real<\/strong>\u00a0victims here<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As you may remember, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/judiciary\/4198285-missouri-v-biden-and-the-crossroads-of-politics-censorship-and-free-speech\/\"><em>The Hill<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reported on\u00a0<em>Missouri v. Biden<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cA federal appellate court concluded Sept. 8 that multiple White House, surgeon general, FBI and CDC officials likely breached the fine line separating permissible government persuasion and jawboning from illicit \u201ccoercion and significant encouragement\u201d when they repeatedly \u2014 and often successfully \u2014 lobbied social-media companies \u201cto remove disfavored content and accounts from their sites.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At that oral argument, Judge Don Willett had no problem with federal agencies publicly criticizing what they judged false or dangerous ideas.
