{"id":97134,"date":"2023-10-24T11:32:10","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T16:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=97134"},"modified":"2023-10-24T11:32:10","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T16:32:10","slug":"97134","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=97134","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bearingarms.com\/camedwards\/2023\/10\/24\/concealed-carry-holder-attacked-by-pro-palestinian-protestors-wont-face-charges-for-firing-shot-n76456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concealed Carry Holder Attacked by Pro-Palestinian Protestors Won&#8217;t Face Charges For Firing Shot<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A rally to support Israel in Skokie, Illinois over the weekend turned chaotic and violent when about 200 pro-Palestinian protestors showed up outside the banquet hall where the rally was taking place.<\/p>\n<p>Though police were on hand to keep the two sides apart, at one point a smaller group of protestors broke away from the crowd, with one of them apparently yanking an Israeli flag off of a motorist\u2019s car. When the man got out of the car to get his flag back, he was quickly surrounded by the mob, and ended up firing a shot into the air to get them to back away.<\/p>\n<p>The man was quickly taken into custody by Lincolnwood police, but was released on Monday after Cook County prosecutors determined the man was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/2023\/10\/23\/23929659\/no-charges-for-man-who-fired-gun-in-the-air-near-pro-palestinian-protesters-in-skokie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acting in self-defense<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The 39-year-old man, who prosecutors declined to name, was released from police custody. In a statement issued Monday, prosecutors said the man, a Firearm Owner Identification Card and Concealed Carry License holder, had \u201cno criminal history.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cAfter reviewing the evidence, which includes surveillance video and witness statements, we have determined the individual \u2026 acted in self-defense upon being surrounded by a crowd and attacked by some of those individuals,\u201d according to the statement.\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Hatem Abuddayeh, the national chair of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network, said the state\u2019s attorney\u2019s office was \u201cabsolutely wrong\u201d in releasing the man, who he said \u201cendangered hundreds.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">He blamed America\u2019s political leaders, specifically President Joe Biden and some elected officials in Illinois who have voiced support for Israel, for stoking the attacks.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cOur leaders are responsible for the attacks,\u201d Abuddayeh said. \u201cThe state\u2019s attorney\u2019s office has a responsibility of keeping people safe \u2026 These are the things that put us in danger.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>C\u2019mon now. First of all, this wasn\u2019t an attack, at least not on the part of the concealed carry holder. He was defending himself\u00a0<em>against<\/em>\u00a0an attack from an angry mob, and honestly showed remarkable restraint (if not the smartest gun handling) by firing a warning shot into the air rather than taking aim at any of the individuals who were attacking him.<\/p>\n<p>The pro-Palestinian protesters had a First Amendment right to be there, but no one had the right to take his property off his car, and they certainly didn\u2019t have the right to attack him when he tried to get his flag back.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cI don\u2019t think [pro-Palestinian protesters] are gonna be dissuaded from wanting to do more and being public in their support for their people and their demands of our government,\u201d Abuddayeh said. \u201cBut it\u2019s a message to our community that the people in charge don\u2019t care that we\u2019re being attacked.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Alison Pure-Slovin, the Midwest regional director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which organized the Israeli solidarity event, said prosecutors likely decided not to press charges because the man \u201cdidn\u2019t feel safe.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cHe was afraid because he was accosted by other people,\u201d Pure-Slovin said. \u201cThe United States of America guarantees free speech. You should not be accosted because of your beliefs.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Pure-Slotkin is absolutely right, and it\u2019s true for both sides. If the concealed carry holder had been driving by and decided to accost the people protesting the pro-Israel event by threatening them with a gun, he should and would have faced charges.
