Omaha Mayor Signs Ban on \u2018Bump Stocks,\u2019 Gun Kits<\/a><\/p>\n Omaha, Nebraska, Mayor\u00a0Jean Stothert signed two gun-control measures this month, one that bans \u201cbump stocks\u201d and the other that bans gun-building kits.<\/p>\n Nebraska\u2019s elections are nonpartisan, but Stothert identified as Republican \u201cin her filing for the 2017 election,\u201d\u00a0Ballotpedia\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Nebraska Examiner\u00a0noted<\/a>\u00a0that Stothert signed the ban on \u201cbump stocks\u201d Thursday, and she\u00a0signed<\/a>\u00a0the ban on gun-building kits November 9.<\/p>\n The gun controls signed by Stothert appear to be leading to legal challenges against Omaha. Those readying the legal challenges point to legislation Gov. Jim Pillen (R) signed earlier this year removing the \u201clocal charter authority\u201d Omaha had used to pass stricter controls than exist at the state level.<\/p>\n In the spring of 2023, Stothert issued an executive order prohibiting concealed carry in \u201cevery building owned or leased by the city,\u201d\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to WOWT.
