There\u2019s actually some rationality behind that assumption. If our opponents are\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0fundamentally decent \u2013 that is, if they don\u2019t share our core convictions about good and evil \u2013 we have no chance of reasoning with them. As we\u2019re determined to prevail politically with logic and evidence rather than through bloodshed, the assumption is vital to keeping our guns in the closet.<\/p>\n<p>But the evidence is strong that the Left does not agree with our convictions about good and evil. Now and then we get more of it.<\/p>\n<p>Quite recently,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2023\/12\/03\/pramila-jayapal-equivocates-on-hamas-rapes-we-have-to-be-balanced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>Pramila Jayapal sought to deflect discussion from HAMAS\u2019s rapes and other brutalizations of Israeli girls.<\/i><\/b><\/a><br \/>\nFrom an open HAMAS supporter, the impulse to dismiss their atrocities\u00a0<i>might<\/i>\u00a0be understandable\u2026but giving in to it indicates a missing moral foundation. Either that, or she\u2019s seriously stupid. And yes, I suppose it could be both, though that leaves her tenure in Congress unexplained.<\/p>\n<p>A few days later,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/michaelcantrell\/2023\/12\/06\/law-prof-seemingly-suggests-real-issue-with-terrorists-raping-israeli-women-is-israel-fought-back-n4924542\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>a New York University law professor<\/i><\/b><\/a>\u00a0tried to justify those rapes as less evil than Israel\u2019s military response:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Is wartime sexual violence a horrific crime? YES, with no mistake. Regard the little video below: a segment from a \u201cdebate\u201d over what European policies should be toward the waves of \u201crefugees\u201d flooding Europe:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-zHoDANH-R8?si=ALZsbIoMerZnqoAu\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/center>Note that the leftists, Simon Schama and Louise Arbour, scoff at the plague of sexual violence \u2013 rape, often gang rape, and often of underage girls \u2013 that the \u201crefugees\u201d have inflicted on the women and girls of Europe, and imply that the position of the Right is founded on prudery or \u201cnewborn feminism.\u201d Mark Steyn\u2019s riposte devastates them, simply by citing a handful of the known incidents the leftists were determined to dismiss with weak sarcasms.<\/p>\n<p>But what does it really signify that Arbour and Schama regard violent sexual predation as something they can dismiss with a flip remark? Are these persons to whom you would entrust the care of a young girl? Would you be confident that they would protect her from the sort of vermin Mark Steyn cited? Or might their attitude be \u201cWell, different cultures\u201d or perhaps \u201cHey, these things happen\u201d \u2013 ?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A man who\u2019s willing to countenance the sacrifice of women\u2019s and young girls\u2019 bodies to debatable \u201chumanitarian\u201d priorities, or for the sake of some political or economic advantage, or perhaps merely to prevail over an ideological opponent, has embraced evil. Arbour and Schama have shed all pretense to the contrary. They have shown us who they are, and we should believe them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Good men don\u2019t compromise with evil. They don\u2019t try to reason with evil. They fight evil. They do their utmost to destroy it.
