Amy Walen and Liz Berry, jailing law-abiding citizens over their lawn mower\u2019s power source will help to fight \u201cclimate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">Last week, the Democrat lawmakers introduced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov\/biennium\/2023-24\/Pdf\/Bills\/House%20Bills\/1868.pdf?q=20231211143833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 1868<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">The legislation seeks to \u201creduc[e]\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/slaynews.com\/news\/wef-demands-3-5-trillion-per-year-decarbonize-earth\/\">emissions<\/a>\u00a0from outdoor power equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">According to the bill, gas- and diesel-powered landscaping tools \u201cemit a host of air pollutants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">These \u201cpollutants\u201d are allegedly \u201ccontributing to climate change and negatively impacting public health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">The bill cites findings from Democrat President Joe Biden\u2019s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">The EPA claims gas-powered lawnmowers contribute 5% of the country\u2019s air pollution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">According to the EPA, over 17 million gallons of fuel are spilled yearly while refueling outdoor power equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">\u201cNationally, the Department of Transportation data shows that one hour of running a gas lawnmower can contribute as much smog-forming pollution as driving a passenger car 300 miles,\u201d the bill claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">\u201cOne hour of running a gas leaf blower can contribute as much smog-forming pollution as driving a passenger car 1,100 miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">Gas-powered lawn tools also cause asthma, hearing loss, and \u201cother health issues,\u201d the legislation claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"slay-news-content\">Additionally, the Democrats argue that the noise from outdoor power equipment can be a nuisance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blue State Democrats Demand Jail Time for People Caught Using Gas-Powered Gardening Tools Democrats in the state of Washington are pushing for members of the public to be jailed for up to one year if they are caught using gas-powered gardening tools.
