{"id":98683,"date":"2023-12-18T23:04:43","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T05:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=98683"},"modified":"2023-12-18T23:04:43","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T05:04:43","slug":"98683","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milesfortis.com\/?p=98683","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/2nd-amendment\/2023\/12\/14\/fact-check-hakeem-jeffries-gun-violence-no-1-killer-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fact Check \u2014 Hakeem Jeffries: Gun Violence the No. 1 Killer of Children<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CLAIM: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) used a Thursday post on X to claim that gun violence is the number one killer of children in America.<\/p>\n<p>VERDICT: False.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America.<\/p>\n<p>House Democrats are ready to act.<\/p>\n<p>We need traditional Republicans to break with the MAGA extremists and join us.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Hakeem Jeffries (@RepJeffries) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJeffries\/status\/1735332624942481756?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Jeffries is not the first Democrat to make this false claim, one based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) numbers focused on causes of death for people 0-19 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>For example, during a June 2, 2022, prime-time speech, President Joe Biden reacted to the CDC figures by\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P3UImCE1hOA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claiming<\/a>: \u201cGuns are the number one killer of children.\u201d The \u201cchildren\u201d referenced by Biden include people of voting age, i.e., 18 and 19-year-olds. CDC figures show firearm-related deaths of people ages 0-19 totaled 4,368 in 2020, while motor vehicle deaths for the same age range totaled 4,036.<\/p>\n<p>However, Breitbart News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/02\/biden-claimed-guns-are-the-no-1-killer-of-children-true-if-you-count-18-and-19-year-olds-as-children\/\">pointed out<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0if you do a custom search on the CDC website, adjusting the numbers so that you are limiting the category of \u201cchildren\u201d to the ages 0-17, i.e.,\u00a0<em>individuals\u00a0that are actually minors<\/em>, then the data flips.
