New Mexico Anti-Gun Group Investigated for Breaking Gun Laws<\/a><\/p>\n

Does everyone feel safer now?<\/p>\n

\u201cPictured are unwanted firearms from one household in Farmington, NM,\u201d New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence\u00a0\u201cXed\u201d Saturday<\/a>. \u201cOur gun buyback was cancelled by the City, but local residents asked us to show up anyway. So, we spent today dismantling guns house by house.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was their \u201cafter action report\u201d for their \u201cGuns to Garden\u201d program, intending to destroy guns and turn them into tools, reported on\u00a0AmmoLand<\/em>\u00a0on Dec. 6, with the title observing \u201cNew Mexico Gun \u2018Buyback\u2019 an Exercise in Contradictions<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat, no background checks?\u201d this correspondent asked at the time. \u00a0\u201cWill there be an FFL on the premises to record transfers?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe @NMStatePolice should investigate a private party going door to door and sawing people\u2019s guns in half without doing a background check as required for a transfer in New Mexico,\u201d State Representative Stefani Lord noted<\/a>\u00a0in response to the NMPGV post. \u00a0\u201cThe @FBI and @ATFHQ should also look into this since a private group does NOT have the ability to check NCIC to see if they are now in possession of a stolen firearm. So many crimes committed by this anti-gun group.\u00a0 @newmexicooag \u00a0needs to look into this offense.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe have been doing this for years,\u201d\u00a0NMPGV shot back<\/a>. \u201cOften, police give people our phone number when they want to turn in an unwanted firearm. This doesn\u2019t violate any background check laws as there is no transfer of firearms.\u00a0 We simply dismantle them.\u00a0 All that is left is wood and metal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you\u2019ve been breaking the law for years?\u201d\u00a0State Rep. John Block<\/a>\u00a0asked. He\u2019s got a point. How can you \u201cdismantle\u201d guns if you don\u2019t first take possession of them?<\/p>\n

Gun owners were quick to join in, pointing out the hypocrisy of gun-grabbers allegedly breaking gun laws they lobbied for and the delicious irony of the prohibitionists \u201choist with their own petard.\u201d And it turns out Lord\u2019s concerns were prescient.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cUPDATE: New Mexico Sheriff has opened an investigation into whether anti-gun group illegally purchased guns in violation of Universal Background Checks during a \u201cbuyback\u201d and failed to destroy these firearms in a legal manner,\u201d Gun Owners of America commented<\/a>\u00a0when forwarding the NMPGV announcement. \u201cYOU CAN\u2019T MAKE THIS STUFF UP.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
