“Barrett looks like she stepped out of central casting for ‘soccer mom.’ When she is confirmed, she will be the first married female Justice since 2010 (when RBG’s husband died) and the first female Justice with minor children. I think she has more appeal to married suburban white women than conventional wisdom believes.”

Blame the gubberment way back when Marbury was decided and everyone figured out (or as some opine planned in advance to take advantage of)  that the normal course of human events would turn the court into just another political organ where the President and a majority Senate could install ‘reliable’ judges that would make rulings in accord with their general wishes.

Ginsburg flap shows Supreme Court, justices are too important.

“When your political system can be thrown into hysteria by something as predictable as the death of an octogenarian with advanced cancer, there’s something wrong with your political system. And when your judicial system can be redirected by such an event, there’s something wrong with your judicial system, too.”

“For decades, I stated that if there was a SCOTUS vacancy within say six months of a Presidential election, then a nomination and vote should be held until after the election as that was one of the few times the voters had at least somewhat of a say.

Yeah, about that.

You threaten to riot? You threaten to shut it all down? You show up at McConnell’s house to protest the very night RBG dies? Fine. Do that and I’ll advocate for hardball to be played right back with the ball to be hit directly into your face. You want it, you got it.
It isn’t just last night. This is the accumulation of decades of ever increasing nastiness re: Republican SCOTUS nominations. This is the threats of court packing, this is hearing vileness, this is *gestures* all of it. I didn’t want this game.

But I’ll play it to win.

Since we’re going to play this stupidest possible game, then play it as hard as possible. I want the nomination Monday, the vote Tuesday, and the swearing in on Wednesday. Hearings are an insulting joke. Everyone knows how everyone will vote. Just do this thing.

BUT BUT YOUR PRINCIPLES! PRINCIPLES, I SAY! You know what my main principle is? I don’t give in to threats. I’m done with this pretending that this is about anything other than pure power plays. In the era of the Golden Scalp Weasel came the Great Unmasking.

Since the masks are off, let me take off mine. I am, underneath it all, an utterly cold blooded pragmatist. I loathe to my DNA that SCOTUS is now most powerful. But it is. That’s not changing. And thus I want that power to be on my side as much as possible.
If that means ramming a vote through as hard and fast as possible, so be it. So be it. I screamed my throat raw and typed my fingers bloody for decades telling everyone not to get to this point. I lost that argument. I lost that argument entirely.

Will to power it is then.

I am, by the by, fully aware of what will happen when the roles are reversed. How can I not be? It’s been laid bare for years. I am doing my enemies, and it is clear now they are not opponents, the favor of taking them seriously. I’m just using the power they want first.
Since this is the game that will be played, play it we shall. And play it to win. And the Senate Republicans better understand by the end of today that if they do not, they will lose and they will deserve to do so. Oh all of this is as terrible as I thought. Yet here we are. ” Alexandria Brown

Changing tactics
I was initially thinking that the lack of violent attacks by Antifa over the past few days was a sign that they were slowing their roll because the riots were proving unpopular in polling data. It turns out that they are merely changing tactics.

One Antifa member was arrested for starting a wildfire, and is the suspect in two more. A second Antifa member has been arrested in a separate incident for starting a second fire.

How many of the dozens of other wildfires have been started by Antifa?

By the way, others also noticed that was napalm in that molotov cocktail not just regular gasoline. So, keep that in mind.

“The media attacks on Trump have followed a pattern for years: A bombshell media report implicating Trump in wrongdoing, often dropped just before a weekend, which creates a media feeding frenzy for 2-4 days before it is completely disproven or seriously cast into doubt. As that crisis news cycle peters out, another bombshell is dropped, rinse and repeat. It’s what I called in 2018 the Permanent Crisis New Cycle.

This permanent crisis news cycle reporting is reflected in an article in The Atlantic, conveniently dropped just before a long holiday weekend, which follows on the heels of a bombshell and since discredicted CNN report that Trump suffered ‘mini-strokes’. As the ‘mini-stroke’ feeding frenzy was petering out, The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg reported Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers’. Based entirely on anonymous sources identified only as former Trump administration officials, the heart of the controversy is Trump supposedly canceling a trip to an American military cemetery during a trip to France in 2018″   – Prof. Wm Jacobson

Colorado Woman Beats Up Child for Carrying Trump Sign.

And get ready for more of this madness. Just today, WaPo has informed us:

This sounds like extortion, doesn’t it? “Vote for our team or there’ll be trouble.” And it’s a tacit admission that Trump supporters won’t get violent if he loses. That would poke a hole in the ol’ liberal media narrative, if they allowed themselves to stop for a minute and think about it.

Could somebody please explain to me why I should vote for a political party that’s expected to explode into even more rioting, looting, public assaults, and other chaos if they lose? I will not be coerced, by either side. If you can’t earn my vote, you’re not going to get it under threat of violence.”

KENOSHA HOME AND STORE OWNERS RUSH TO BUY GUNS

The civil unrest triggered by Jacob Blake’s shooting has many citizens in and around Kenosha rushing to stock up on guns to protect themselves and their businesses.

Gun and ammo stores in the area are seeing a huge surge in folks trying to buy firearms, with many customers coming from neighborhoods smack in the middle of the unrest.

Joesph LaJoy, owner of LaJoy Precision Inc in nearby Pleasant Prairie, WI, tells TMZ … he completely sold out of every handgun, shotgun, and all ammunition after fielding at least 150 phone calls per day in the wake Blake’s shooting.

LaJoy says the majority of sales were from people who did not previously own guns or ammo, and they’re looking to protect themselves and their homes. Continue reading “”

Quote o’ The Day

Democrats are currently caught between two mutually-antagonistic lies they’ve long promulgated:
First they say: “You don’t need guns, because police are there to protect you.” Then they say: “We’re defunding the police! …. but you still can’t have guns!”

Seen on the fazebuk:

“Faced with the need for a dispersed convention, the Democrats chose to visually and rhetorically emphasize the situationally coerced quality of it all. Grainy Zoom conference calls, staged shots emphasizing cavernous emptiness, apologetic second-tier celebrity emcees, virtue-signaling mask wearing, et cetera. It was all grim, threatening atmospherics, and the celebratory culmination — the masked nominees strolling to receive the accolades of a large and darkened parking lot — displayed as bathos rather than triumph.

The party of Hollywood was handed what should have been its most natural task — excel on television! — and fumbled it.

This week, we are at the close of four days of Republican conventioneering. Set aside what you think of the substance of it, or that of its counterpart. Look at production values and aesthetic. The RNC nailed it. Against the mystifying Democratic decision to consciously present its own second-best, a televised would-be convention, the Republicans discarded the old form altogether — and embraced the new one.”

Florida woman fatally shoots man breaking into house with tire iron

A woman shot and killed a man who was using a tire iron to break into her home early Saturday morning, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

The incident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. Saturday on Ellie Road in an unincorporated area of Polk County near Auburndale.

At a news conference Saturday morning, Judd said the homeowner and the man she shot knew each other. They had been part of a group of four — two men and two women — who had gone out the night before. They all returned to the woman’s home at about 4 a.m., Judd said.

At some point, the man who would later be shot got into an argument with his girlfriend. He left the home in a car with the other man, but he returned later and started banging on and kicking the front door, demanding to see his girlfriend, Judd said.

Judd said the other man tried getting him to leave, but he refused and retrieved a tire iron from a car. He used it to break a window and tear through a screen The woman who owns the home then shot him dead. She and the man’s girlfriend were the only people inside the home at the time, Judd said.

Judd said deputies are investigating the shooting, but added that “it appears that the shooter was perfectly legal to defend her home from a burglar.”

The names of the people involved were not released Saturday morning. Judd said more details could be released later in the day.

‘democratic society’. Yeah, demoncrapic socialist society.

Sanders: ‘The day after Biden’s elected we’re going to have a serious debate’

*****************

“We’re going to come together to defeat Trump,” Sanders told “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah on Friday. “And the day after Biden is elected, we’re going to have a serious debate about the future of this country, but it will be done within the framework of a democratic society.”

The Vermont senator’s remarks presage a coming push by progressives to wield more influence in the Democratic Party and within a potential Biden administration…….

QOTD:
“Anyone with a brain and a bit of historical knowledge could have seen this coming, which is no doubt why it eluded so much of our political class.”

BLUF:
The thing to remember is, ultimately, police aren’t there to protect the public from criminals, but to protect criminals from the public. Before the invention of modern police by Robert Peel in London in the early 19th Century, the public dealt with criminals mostly on its own, and usually harshly. Arrest by the police and trial before a court was a big improvement over mob justice.

Now some want to go the other direction. I predict it will end badly.

Back to the future in policing? Civilian militias in American cities
Police being pulled back in blue urban areas has led to neighborhood patrols which lead to chaos, violence, gangs and prejudice.

“When the dawn patrol’s got to tell you twice, they’re gonna do it with a shotgun.” That’s a lyric from Steely Dan, but it also reflects what seems to be a new trend in two of America’s bluest cities: The replacement of police with civilian militias. (The press prefers to call them “neighborhood patrols” since they’re in Democratic cities).

There are some people who might favor this as a step forward for civil rights and racial justice, but the facts to date don’t support such a reading. In two cities where the police have pulled back from urban areas, they’ve been replaced by armed gangs demanding protection money, increased violence and, yes, prejudice against people who “don’t belong.” Anyone with a brain and a bit of historical knowledge could have seen this coming, which is no doubt why it eluded so much of our political class.
