Safety Recall Notice: Sig Sauer Cross Bolt-Action Rifle

Today Sig Sauer, Inc. is announcing a safety recall for the CROSS Bolt-Action Rifle, and consumers should immediately discontinue the use of the rifle.  This recall applies to all CROSS Bolt-Action rifles currently manufactured.

Sig Sauer has viewed an online video that presents a single CROSS Bolt-Action Rifle with a potential safety concern.  This gun has been returned to Sig Sauer and upon evaluation, it has been confirmed that the rifle exhibited a delayed discharge after the trigger was pulled.  Sig Sauer has decided to issue a safety recall in order to implement a modification to the firing action to address this potential safety concern.

To register for the recall process please visit sigsauer.com/crossrecall or call Sig Sauer Customer Service at 603-610-3000, option 1.  Following registration, Sig Sauer will further communicate with you to arrange for the return of your rifle to Sig Sauer for the safety improvement.  All shipment and replacement costs will be covered by Sig Sauer.

Sig Sauer is committed to providing the highest quality, industry-leading firearms in the marketplace and is requesting that consumers take immediate action and follow the recall process as described.

Basically, with one small exception, all the previous Henry rifles without the 1860’s ‘King’s Patent’ side loading feature will now be made with it.
The market always decides and it appears Henry wants to decisively compete with Marlin.

FPC Moves to Intervene in Gun Control Lawsuit That Seeks to Compel ATF to Reinterpret Definition of “Firearm”

The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF), and 80% Arms announced the filing of a motion to intervene in a lawsuit brought by the Cities of Syracuse, San Jose, Chicago, Columbia, SC, as well as Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (Plaintiffs) against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Acting ATF Director Regina Lombardo, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and Attorney General William Barr (Defendants) in which they challenge ATF’s classification of non-firearm objects, sometimes colloquially referred to as “80% receivers”. The case, City of Syracuse, et al. v. BATFE, et al., can be viewed at FPCLegal.org.

The Everytown Plaintiffs’ complaint contends that the ATF and DOJ refuse to apply the statutory language found in the Gun Control Act (GCA), and as a result, fail to regulate non-firearm objects as “firearms” as they prefer under their radical gun control agenda. Their complaint further alleges that ATF has arbitrarily determined that if an object is solid in certain areas or lacks drilling and machining, it is not classified as a firearm under the GCA. FPC is intervening on behalf of itself and its members, who include producers, sellers, buyers, and possessors of non-firearm objects to ensure that their rights and interests are protected. Open Source Firearms Introduces The Ghost Gunner Flex

The Ghost Gunner FLEX is a hardware clone of the Defense Distributed Ghost Gunner 2 with several variances designed to make the unit easily reproduced and manufactured by hobbyists. Just like the Ghost Gunner 2 that precedes it, the design of the FLEX is fully Open Source hardware. The FLEX is built from 3D printed parts, aluminum T-slot extrusion, and commonly available motion components all ubiquitous within the RepRap community.

The FLEX features modular and swappable work-holding and accessory mounting methods, making it extremely flexible for a variety of tasks. The machine frame is suitable for use with conventional machining, fused deposition 3D printing, laser engraving, and grinding with straightforward toolhead swaps. The design is scaleable, allowing build envelopes up to 10x22x4 inches (250x550x100 millimeters) by a simple swap of motion and frame components without significant modifications to overall design. Having all square and flat features, the FLEX is also easily enclosed to control dust and temperature variations. Continue reading “”

NICS Firearm Background Checks for October 2020 Highest October On Record

NICS Check October 2020

The October 2020 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System(NICS) figure of 1,769,553 is an increase of 60.1 percent compared to the October 2019 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,105,335. For comparison, the unadjusted October 2020 FBI NICS figure 3,268,909 reflects a 40.5 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,327,252 in October 2019.

The year-to-date total of 17.2 million background checks shatters the previous complete annual record of 15.7 million background checks set in 2016. Two months of sales still remain, traditionally among the busiest of the year.

Please note: Twenty-five states currently have at least one qualified alternative permit, which under the Brady Act allows the permit-holder, who has undergone a background check to obtain the permit, to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer without a separate additional background check for that transfer. The number of NICS checks in these states does not include these legal transfers based on qualifying permits and NSSF does not adjust for these transfers. Michigan had law changes that affected their Brady Law standing which removed qualifying alternate permits usage for firearm transactions. These changes went into effect March 3, 2020. NSSF-adjusted NICS for the state of Michigan in October 2020 were 185.4 percent higher than October 2019 which accounts for an additional 43,817 checks over the same time period.

The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks and permit rechecks used by states for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases. NSSF started subtracting permit rechecks in February 2016.

Though not a direct correlation to firearms sales, the NSSF-adjusted NICS data provide an additional picture of current market conditions. In addition to other purposes, NICS is used to check transactions for sales or transfers of new or used firearms.

It should be noted that these statistics represent the number of firearm background checks initiated through the NICS. They do not represent the number of firearms sold or sales dollars. Based on varying state laws, local market conditions and purchase scenarios, a one-to-one correlation cannot be made between a firearm background check and a firearm sale.

Record Breaking Firearm Background Checks In 2020

NSSF’s adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figures put 2020 as the record-breaking year for gun sales. So far in 2020, 17.2 million background checks were conducted for the sale of a firearm, surpassing the previous record in 2016 of 15.7 million.

The October 2020 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 1,769,553 is an increase of 60.1 percent compared to the October 2019 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,105,335. For comparison, the unadjusted October 2020 FBI NICS figure 3,268,909 reflects a 40.5 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,327,252 in October 2019.

The NSSF-adjusted background checks for January – October 2020 total 17,227,586 and have already exceeded the total 13,199,172 adjusted background checks for the entire year of 2019 by 30.5 percent. Each month since March has been the strongest of that month ever recorded.

This much is clear as we head into Election Day. Americans of all political persuasions are exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and doing so in record numbers. This hasn’t been a phenomenon of just red states, but also blue states. Never before have so many Americans chosen to exercise their right to firearm ownership, including the estimated 6.9 million who purchased a firearm for the first time this year. Additionally, this has been a sustained period of firearm sales since March. This is clearly not a one-off event.

Unfortunately, today’s gun buyers were given proof throughout the year of why self-defense rights are critical. Coronavirus pandemic measures forced police off the streets for fear of spreading infection and governors released violent prisoners for the same reasons, some of whom were rearrested within days for other violent crimes. Protests quickly turned violent and destructive, even as gun control politicians watched and did nothing. Riots spilled from our urban centers into the suburbs. Certain municipalities called for, and acted upon, movements to defund police and deny the most vulnerable citizens the protection they deserve. Those violent episodes continue and we are witnessing metropolitan areas brace for continued violence.

It cannot be discounted that today’s gun buyers are faced with polar opposites of presidential candidates when it comes to protecting Second Amendment rights. President Donald Trump vowed to safeguard this right and former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate Senator Kamala Harris have both embraced outright confiscation of lawfully owned firearms as the headliner of the most far-reaching gun control agenda to be presented to the American voter.

America is watching and is already voting with their wallets when it comes to lawful firearm ownership.

Sturm, Ruger sees 50% surge in third-quarter gun sales
Company reports strain on production even as it gets set to add newly acquired Remington Arms line

Sturm, Ruger & Co. is starting to run out of guns, thanks to an “incredible surge in demand” in the third quarter, coupled with a Covid-induced caution in hiring, CEO Christopher J. Killoy told analysts in an Oct. 29 earnings call.

That increased demand – which Killoy attributed to “civil unrest” and not the run-up to the election – is about to be augmented, as Ruger starts to produce Marlin firearms, which it acquired for $30 million at the end of September as part of Remington Arms’ bankruptcy . He said a good portion of the Marlins will probably be produced at Ruger’s Newport facility.

Ruger’s gun sales picked up by more than 50% in the third quarter, which is actually below the 68% increase for the industry as a whole, according to national background check data.

In terms of dollars, the company’s firearm sales increased to $145.7 million for the quarter, a 53% increase from the third quarter of 2019, and net earnings went up to $24.8 million ($1.42 a share), about five times what they were a year ago. That brings year-to-date revenue just short of $400 million and puts profits at 58.7 million.

For shareholders that’s good news, since dividends are directly tied to earnings per share. That means they’ll get a 56-cent per-share dividend this quarter, as compared to 14 cents a year ago.

Kilroy credited the surge in sales to “protest, demonstration and civil unrest in many cities” leading to “concerns about personal protection,” though some of that could be coming from the social and economic upheavals due to the pandemic. He did not mention the particularly volatile presidential election – which in recent history has sparked an increase in gun sales.

Kilroy also said the industry might be benefiting from people being stuck at home as “new buyers return to getting outside with your friends and family to shoot while you can still social distance.”

The company only started rehiring workers in June because of fear that the virus would jeopardize their health. The company increased its headcount by 140 employees over the third quarter, to roughly 1,750, though individual headcounts for the Newport plant and the facilities in North Carolina and Arizona were not provided. The company was able to increase production by 15%, the company said, nevertheless “as a result of this unprecedented demand, inventories remained significantly reduced at all levels in the channel during the third quarter,” he said.

Put in numbers, the company had a backlog of close to 1.27 million guns at the end of last quarter. A year ago, the backlog was at 161,500.

This isn’t just the situation at Ruger, said Killoy.

“Most firearms brands have been cleaned out at all levels of the channel,” he said, adding, “we’ve never quite seen the level of inventory depletion within the entire channel. Whether it’s Ruger warehouses or distributor warehouses or the shelves at your local retailer, there’s not a lot of inventory out there right now, especially in the key product families. So I think it’s fundamentally stronger and different than I’ve seen in my three decades in the business.”

There is going to be even more of a strain on demand when Ruger takes Marlin production. Kilroy said the company expects to close the deal this quarter.

The Marlin product line was produced at Remington plants in New York, Alabama and Lexington, but Ruger plans to move all that to its facilities.

When asked which ones, Killoy said, “It’s going to be split between at least two Ruger facilities, potentially all three, but I think it’s more likely to be split between the Mayodan, N.C., facility and the Newport, NH, facility, but that still remains to be seen.”

Walmart Removes, Then Returns, Guns & Ammo Displays At Stores In Response To Week of “Civil Unrest”
The flip-flopping removals were announced ahead of the presidential election as leaders around the country prepare for protests or possible riots.

Walmart is reversing its decision to remove guns and ammunition from store floors, which the company announced earlier this week it would do because of ongoing “civil unrest.” Meanwhile, officials around the country are preparing for the possibility of more civil unrest next week following the results of the presidential election.

According to a Thursday piece from The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, Walmart sent a letter to store managers on Wednesday asking that staff remove firearms from shelves, “due to the current unrest in isolated areas of the country and out of an abundance of caution.” The report specified that Walmart said customers could continue to purchase guns and ammunition, but that the products themselves wouldn’t be displayed in the stores.

In a statement to multiple outlets earlier in the week, a Walmart spokesman also said, “We have seen some isolated civil unrest and as we have done on several occasions over the last few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers.”

But the company reversed its decision on Friday, making another statement to multiple outlets that said, “After civil unrest earlier this week resulted in damage to several of our stores … we asked stores to move firearms and ammunition from the sales floor …. As the current incidents have remained geographically isolated, we have made the decision to begin returning these products to the sales floor today.” Continue reading “”

Well, since the ‘peaceful protesters’ ransacked one of their stores in Philly, this actually doesn’t seem to be all that bad of an idea.

Walmart Removes Guns and Ammo From Store Displays, Citing Potential ‘Unrest.’

Walmart Inc. on Thursday announced it will pull all guns and ammunition from its store displays on sales floors at stores this week in a bid to prevent the theft of firearms if stores are looted or broken into during potential mass civil unrest.
The Arkansas-based retail giant confirmed its new policy to news outlets, stipulating that customers can still buy firearms and ammo upon request.
“We have seen some isolated civil unrest and as we have done on several occasions over the last few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers,” Walmart said in a statement, according to the Wall Street Journal and other outlets. Michigan Gun Shop Owner: Riots Brought Flood of Single Moms Arming Themselves to Protect Their Children

A Michigan gun shop owner told Breitbart News that Black Lives Matter-related riots in Grand Rapids back in May brought a flood of single mothers into her store seeking to protect their children.

Lisa Mayo owns Flashpoint Firearms in Comstock Park, Michigan, just a few miles north of Grand Rapids.

She said her biggest sales day occurred after rioting in downtown Grand Rapids the night after a George Floyd protest took place. WOOD TV reported that the Grand Rapids Police Department headquarters was tagged with expletives. Storefront windows were smashed. Properties were destroyed. Police cruisers were torched. An estimated $2.4 million in damage was done, according to Mlive.

Mayo said her new customers “were scared” after the riots in May. “There was a lot of single mothers that were coming in, never would have believed in their whole entire life that they would own a firearm, and they came to my store and said they need to protect themselves, but more importantly, their children.”

Mayo said a “significant portion” of her customers are from the city of Grand Rapids and poor.

“They’re fearing for their lives, and their budget is around that $200-$350 price range,” she said.

Mayo said that any new tax or regulatory expense imposed on gun ownership, like some of the gun control measures Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is proposing, “would put them out of the market. I think that is very unwise because those people are probably the top people that need to protect themselves,” she said.

Taxpayers pay “a lot of money” so elected officials can have Secret Service protection, she said.

“Why don’t we have the right to be able to defend ourselves. Common, middle class people don’t have enough money to pay for a bodyguard, so the next best thing is for us to be able to protect ourselves. It’s everyone’s right to own a firearm,” Mayo said. Continue reading “”

Americans have bought record 17m guns in year of unrest, analysis finds
Sales surged in the spring amid coronavirus fears and climbed higher during protests for racial justice

Americans have bought nearly 17m guns so far in 2020, more than in any other single year, according to estimates from a firearms analytics company.

Gun sales across the United States first jumped in the spring, driven by fears about the coronavirus pandemic, and spiked even higher in the summer, during massive racial justice protests across the country, prompted by police killings of black Americans.

“By August, we had exceeded last year’s total. By September, we exceeded the highest total ever,” said Jurgen Brauer, the chief economist of Small Arms Analytics, which produces widely cited estimates of US gun sales.

The estimated number of guns sold in the US through the end of September 2020 is “not only more than last year, it’s more than any full year in the last 20 years we have records for”, Brauer said.

The previous record for estimated firearms sold in a single year was 16.6m in 2016, when Hillary Clinton ran for president against Donald Trump and endorsed a strong gun-control platform, he said. Continue reading “”

Not expanding production in Connecticut? I sense a pattern here.

Raytheon Technologies sees shift of Pratt & Whitney work from Connecticut to North Carolina as one way to cut costs in the pandemic

Voter-registration patterns give Trump an edge invisible to polls: JPMorgan
Voter registration favors Republicans in many key battleground states, the bank’s analysis says

The 2020 presidential race may be closer than the polls suggest, according to an analysis of voter registration trends by JPMorgan Chase.

Changes in the number of voters registered to each of the major parties have proven to be a significant variable in election outcomes in the past, according to strategists at the New York-based bank, which analyzed trends in some of the battleground states that will be crucial to an electoral college victory.

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Trump by 9.2 points nationally, according to an average of polls compiled by RealClearPolitics, but his lead is at a tighter 4.9 points in hotly contested states.

Four years ago, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also outstripped Trump in national polling and won the popular vote by nearly 3 million, only to lose the electoral college, where she took just 227 votes to Trump’s 304.

This year’s campaign may be won or lost in some of the same battlegrounds as that race, which has made them focal points for politicians, pollsters and observers alike.

In Pennsylvania, for example, a blue-leaning state that Trump won by 44,292 votes in 2016, the Republican Party has since picked up nearly 200,000 voters.

JPMorgan says the gains suggest Trump could win the state by a margin of more than 240,000 in the upcoming election.

Similar progress in battlegrounds Florida and North Carolina suggest Trump may take those states by a larger margin than in his first campaign as well.

JPMorgan also believes a surge in the number of registered Republicans will tighten the race in New Mexico, but that the state will still go with Biden. On the flipside, a growing number of registered Democrats in Arizona will make the state close, but Trump should prevail.

While voter registration is encouraging for Trump and the GOP, it is “only one variable in determining the election outcome,” the JPMorgan quant team led by Marko Kolanovic wrote, noting that the results should not be used to predict a state’s outcome.

A number of other issues that don’t show up in the polls also offer encouraging signs for Trump, according to a Wells Fargo report released last month.

The firm noted Trump outperformed the polls in all of the key battleground states in 2016 and also suggested his recent Supreme Court nomination, gun ownership trends and a stronger backing from African-American voters are all playing into Trump’s hands.

Off-campus learning due to COVID-19 and a smaller independent vote also favor the president, the analysts said.

Gun Sales Year-to-Date Surpass Total for All of 2019

Gun sales year-to-date in 2020 already surpass the total number of guns sold for all of 2019.

FBI figures provide an indicator of the surge in year-to-date gun sales, showing 28,826,449 National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) requests from January 2020 through September 2020, versus 28,369,750 for all of 2019.

WGNTV quotes National Shooting Sports Foundation public relations director Mark Oliva saying, “We have already surpassed all of the guns sold last year and we are well on our way to surpassing our record of 2016.”

Moreover, Oliva indicated that “40 percent of people buying guns in 2020 are first-time gun owners.”

Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley Arms owner Kendall Knapik said, “I’ve been in the industry for about 10 years now, and this is probably the craziest we’ve ever seen it. It’s mostly shotguns, home-defense shotguns. Those were the first to sell out. Then, people moved to handguns once the shotgun manufacturers couldn’t keep up with the demand.”

On October 4, 2020, Breitbart News reported that September 2020 was the ninth consecutive month of record NICS background checks. That means January 2020 saw more NICS checks than any January in history, February 2020 saw more than any February in history, March 2020 than any March, and so on, all the way through September.

October 15, 2020, Breitbart News reported that Smith & Wesson stock was up over 130 percent for the year amid the run on guns, and Sturm Ruger Co.’s stock was up 42 percent

IRS ‘launches criminal investigation into NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre over possible tax fraud related to his personal finances’

The Internal Revenue Service is said to have launched a criminal investigation into National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre for possible tax fraud related to his personal finances.

Filings show LaPierre, 70, who has been in charge of the NRA’s day-to-day operations since 1991, was paid $2.2 million by the non-profit group in 2018. He made a reported total of $11.2 million between 2014 and 2018, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In August New York state’s attorney general sued to dissolve the NRA, alleging senior leaders of the non-profit group diverted millions of dollars for personal use and to buy the silence and loyalty of former employees.

In that lawsuit it was argued that not including certain personal benefits in his W-2 annual-compensation forms ‘permitted him to file false personal tax returns with the IRS’.

The New York lawsuit made only civil claims, but James had said the investigation was ongoing and any criminal activity discovered would be referred to prosecutors and the Internal Revenue Service.

NRA attorney William A. Brewer III told the Journal: ‘The NRA is not aware of any IRS inquiry but, of course, will fully cooperate with any appropriate requests for assistance.’

LaPierre has not commented on reports of this latest investigation but has previously said: ‘We’re ready for the fight. Bring it on.’

Tax attorney Mark Matthews said ‘the IRS would be looking for evidence of concealment’ in their case.   Continue reading “”

If Winchester does the same as Federal did by selling ‘overrun’ ammo, maybe we’ll see M855A1 become available on the open market. It makes the old M855 ‘Green Tip’ pale in comparison.

Winchester is honored to announce that we now have management and operational control of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.

Olin Corporation (NYSE: OLN) announced that effective today, its ammunition division, Olin Winchester, LLC (“Winchester”), assumed full management and operational control of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri. The contract has an initial term of seven years and may be extended by the U.S. Army for up to three additional years. Winchester is now the world’s largest small arms ammunition manufacturer.

“Winchester employees have built a reputation with the U.S. Army that is unrivaled and for the past year we have been preparing for this significant transition,” said Brett Flaugher, President of Winchester. “We were selected to manage the Lake City Plant because of our industry-leading capabilities and track record.
