Where You Used to go Armed in New York

There is a bill in the New York Assembly that makes most destinations into “gun-free” zones. I call it the “Prohibited Places” bill and you need to know the back story for this to make any sense at all.. even for the politicians.

It never made sense for honest citizens.

First, there is an important case before the US Supreme Court called NYSRPA v Bruen. That case asserts that New York State required ordinary people to get a permit to carry a firearm in public, and then denied those permits to ordinary citizens. It sounds like New York Democrats are conceding that they infringed on the right of self-defense and will lose the Bruen case. Maybe a liberal justice on the Supreme Court already gave them the text of that decision.

That brings us to Bill A8684 before the New York Assembly which “Prohibits firearms in certain locations, including but not limited to all forms of public transportation, large gatherings, and food and drink establishments.”

Since New York Democrats will soon have to issue carry permits, they want to make everywhere a gun free zone for everyone.

Ukraine’s President Just Blew Up Joe Biden’s Spot on the Whole Situation With Russia

Katie wrote about this earlier today. President Joe Biden had a chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and it did not go well at all. The rumor is that Biden had to be told to calm down and that Kyiv was not about to be sacked. There are only bits and pieces of information, but if true—this call was a train wreck. Also, where’s the transcript? For now, it’s a flurry of anonymous sources leaking portions that make Biden look terrible:

During a phone call Thursday afternoon, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly told President Joe Biden to tone down the messaging as he continued to claim Russia was going to invade the country. The call is being described as one that “did not go well.”

The White House is pushing back on this interpretation of the call but has not released a transcript.

Earlier this week Ukrainian officials criticized the State Department’s directive for family members of U.S. diplomats to depart Kyiv, saying it was a premature overreaction.

And now, President Zelensky seems to confirm the reports of a bad call by telling the media today that he’s the president, he’s based here in Ukraine, and that he knows the details of the situation better here. At any rate, he blew up Biden and the State Department’s position of an imminent invasion. As for the Russian threat, Zelensky noted that it’s been here for years. It’s always present.

Daily Caller Reporter Asks Why Biden Admin Doesn’t Stress Living Healthier Lifestyles. Psaki Starts Talking About Masks.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki didn’t say whether The White House was going to push for Americans to live healthily to reduce their risk of severe COVID-19.

During the press briefing, Daily Caller White House correspondent Shelby Talcott asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki if President Joe Biden and his medical advisors have considered telling Americans to live healthier during the pandemic. Psaki did not directly answer and instead told Americans to get vaccinated and wear masks.

“We have seen an effort from a few other countries to include a push for living a healthier lifestyle as part of its pandemic response. There’s been studies indicating efforts like weight loss can help prevent some of the more serious effects of COVID-19,” Talcott said. “Why hasn’t the president included a push for healthier lifestyles in his COVID messaging, in addition to pushing Americans to get vaccinated?”

As taxpayers tire of funding things like this, we’re told it’s because of “anti-intellectualism.”

University assignment has students record themselves accusing someone of racism or homophobia.

An assignment shows an instructor directing students to locate someone that they can accuse of ‘racism,’ ‘ableist racist or homophobic use of language,’ or ‘micro-aggressions.’

The Twitter account Libs of TikTok tweeted a screenshot of a similar assignment Wednesday, likely from another iteration of the course.

An assignment obtained by Campus Reform from a University of New Hampshire course shows an instructor directing students to locate someone that they can accuse of “racism,” “ableist racist or homophobic use of language,” or “micro-aggressions.”

Students in the “Introduction to Language and Social Interaction” course were told to “Call in someone on their ableist racist or homophobic use of language, for micro aggressions (or an act of racism) towards a person of color, homophobia against LGBTQI+ or ableism against a disabled person.”

The assignment for the course, specifies that students must also record the interaction “in order to get credit,” while clarifying to get permission before doing so.

“Remember to say you know they mean well and are a good person,” reads the assignment.

Students are instructed to give their target “an alternate way of expressing themselves that doesn’t marginalise [sic] or oppress,” and warned to “Research your proposed alternative to make certain its [sic] not oppressive itself!!” because “You will fail if you tell someone to say something racist or sexist or homophobic.”

Psaki Appears To Struggle To Answer What Biden Was Doing Today, Then A Reporter Tweeted Photos Of Biden

Then he’s whisked back to the Whitehouse and shut down for the day.

When you’re a demoncrap and still losing the WaPost…..

Joe Bye-Done: WaPo’s Article About Biden’s Struggles Sure Does Drive a Dagger Into His Presidency

Joe Biden’s presidency is one year old—and it’s a total nightmare. The nation is still divided. Omicron is sweeping the nation. Inflation is through the roof. The grocery store has bare shelves. The supply chain crisis is ongoing. The border crisis is out of control. The Afghanistan withdrawal was a nightmare. We might see another embassy evacuation in Ukraine. The jobs reports are trash. It’s not going well. The only person who thinks all is well is…Joe Biden. That doesn’t account for much since he’s dementia-ridden. He’s old. He’s slow. He’s stupid. Three things the president of the United States cannot be in this world. The scent of weakness is present for all to see, which is why Russia and China are flexing big league right now. As Russia prepares for a possible invasion of Ukraine, China is probably smiling looking at the Taiwan Strait.

What’s become clear is that one year into his presidency, Biden can’t do the job. That’s what jumps out in this Washington Post piece about Biden’s “slide” in the polls. The other thing that comes to mind is this question: how did this get published? It’s quite a searing piece, with even members of his own party slamming his performance. Even swing voters polled by Democratic pollsters see a bad word association brewing when it comes to Joe Biden, ones that are election killers. It’s why many Democrats probably cringed when Joe declared he was going to be active on the 2022 campaign trail for the midterms. Biden’s approvals are circling the drain, with numbers ranging from the 30s and 40s. He’s a cancer to his party, with its more centrist members probably hoping he just forgets where they are on the district map. Congressional Democratic leaders told their members to gamble on Build Back Better, with moderates voting for the lefty action items only to have Joe Manchin torpedo the bill. Now, their names are attached to this Bolshevik package. For progressives, Biden promised he could sway Manchin. That failed miserably. It was a disastrous push toward the end of the holiday season that pretty much captured the Biden administration as one of being incompetent and being outright blind to the political realities at hand. You can’t go hard left with a 50-50 Senate and a four-seat majority in the House.

It’d like what was said about education. If a foreign nation was forcing us to doing this, it would be seen as an act of war.

BLUF:
And Biden? His woke national-security and foreign-policy B-team seem more eager to subsidize electric cars for the rich than to provide cheap oil and gas to the American middle class or to deter America’s adversaries.

Team Biden seeks to stop yet another pipeline even as gas prices rise.

If you needed any more proof that the anti-American, pro-Russia, pro-Iran, pro-China, anti-Israel wing of the Democrat Party has captured the White House flag, last week we learned Team Biden plans to put the kibosh on a natural-gas pipeline with US involvement that would reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy.

The Eastern Mediterranean Gas Pipeline, which would carry Israeli and Cypriot natural gas, is yet another energy resource serving America’s strategic interests that the Biden White House wants gone. EastMed joins a long list that started on Day One with the Keystone XL pipeline, a ban on oil and gas leases on public lands and the October federal court ruling that ended drilling in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.

All these actions, demanded by “climate change” alarmists, have reversed America’s long-sought energy independence won at great political cost by President Donald Trump.

They have not only made us dependent once again on foreign oil; they have sent oil prices skyrocketing, enriching America’s adversaries in Russia and Iran.

But, hey. It wasn’t a mean tweet, right?

Wonder if he’ll be reminded of this:

Biden acts much more like Putin’s puppet than Trump ever did.

Thanks Biden! Guess Who We’re Buying More Oil From Now?

One of the first things Joe Biden did upon taking office was kill the Keystone XL pipeline. For good measure, he also aggressively sought to limit new drilling permits, and despite some legal setbacks, Biden managed to reverse Trump’s progress in making the United States energy independent.

Under Trump, the United States became a net exporter of energy for the first time in decades. Now under Biden, we’re importing more oil again, and one of the key beneficiaries of our increasing dependence on foreign oil is Russia.

“U.S. oil imports from Saudi Arabia and Russia have increased, and gasoline prices are higher than they have been in the last five years,” reports Energy Now.

And much of that is because Biden killed the Keystone XL pipeline.

“[Keystone XL] was a missed opportunity to increase North American energy security, lower costs for American consumers and reduce dependence on foreign energy sources that are hostile to U.S. interests,” Frank Macchiarola, senior vice-president with the American Petroleum Institute, told Energy Now. “The Keystone XL pipeline would have provided good-paying union jobs to American workers while delivering affordable, reliable energy to American consumers from a close U.S. ally.”

According to government statistics, energy imports from Saudi Arabia more than doubled from Dec. 2020 to Oct. 2021. And our imports from Russia more than tripled from Feb. 2019 through Sept. 2021.

While I’m sure the oil sheiks in Saudi Arabia and Vladimir Putin are thrilled to be making money selling oil and petroleum to the United States, it’s hard to imagine why any American president would have intentionally enriched them at the expense of our own prosperity and our national security.

If you’ll remember Judge Alex Kozinski was also on the 9th circuit, and had similar remarks about the proggie members.

Judge demonstrates absurdity of “intermediate scrutiny” in 2A challenges

A decision by a three-judge panel on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declaring the closures of gun stores in two California counties during 2020’s COVID-related lockdowns unconstitutional is almost certainly headed for an en banc review, and given the anti-gun majorities still present in the appellate court, chances are good that the original decision is going to be overturned and replaced with an opinion more to the liking of the gun prohibitionists in the state.

In fact, as Ninth Circuit Judge Lawrence VanDyke has pointed out, since 2008 the Ninth Circuit is 50-0 when it comes to en banc decisions upholding gun control laws. Most of the time the court uses “intermediate scrutiny” to uphold the validity of the Second Amendment restrictions; a vague and fuzzy legal standard that in essence allows courts to give the thumbs up to infringements on our right to keep and bear arms as long as the government argues that the law is based on a legitimate government interest and doesn’t “substantially” burden the exercise of our Second Amendment rights.

VanDyke is well aware of the games the court has played with intermediate scrutiny; so much so, in fact, that he decided to use his judicial pen to push back against his colleagues’ penchant for upholding any and all gun control laws with the flimsiest of legal arguments. In VanDyke’s opinion declaring the gun stores’ closures unconstitutional (also using intermediate scrutiny, the Ninth Circuit judge actually wrote an alternative ruling to demonstrate just how easy it is to use that legal rationale to reach any conclusion it wants.

I have yet to see an inanimate object do anything of its own accord. I’d think that the person who aimed the gun and pulled the trigger is where blame should be placed.
Of course, there’s people today, like this Goobernor, who apparently still believe in the medieval superstition that things have some kind of moral agency that could exert influence over the minds of men.
That’s where the old ‘Deodand’ laws came from.

New York Governor Blames ‘Illegal Gun’ In Fatal Shooting of NYPD Officer

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) blamed an “illegal gun” in the fatal shooting of NYPD officer Jason Rivera on Friday night.

Rivera, 22, was shot and killed and a second officer, Wilbert More, 27, was shot and wounded, Breitbart News reported.

The shooting suspect, Lashawn McNeil, 47, opened fire on Rivera and More as they approached him in a long hallway, CBS New York noted. McNeill was then shot twice by a third officer.

On Saturday, Hochul tweeted, “Last night, a shot from an illegal gun took the life of a NYPD officer.”

Last night, a shot from an illegal gun took the life of a @NYPDnews officer.

When I say we’re going to do everything we can to stop the scourge of illegal guns in our state, it’s not just talk. We are tripling funding for efforts to get these guns off the streets. pic.twitter.com/zXv0xbL4Em

— Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) January 22, 2022

“When I say we’re going to do everything we can to stop the scourge of illegal guns in our state, it’s not just talk. We are tripling funding for efforts to get these guns off the streets,” Hochul added.

New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) responded to the shooting death of Rivera by calling for more gun control, Breitbart News reported.

New York has some of the most stringent gun controls in the country. Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety ranks New York No. 3 in the nation “for gun law strength.”

Those laws include everything the Democrats are pushing at the federal level under the guise of safety, including universal background checks, a “high capacity” magazine ban, an “assault weapons” ban, a permit requirement to buy a handgun, a red flag law, gun storage requirements, “ghost gun” regulations, and a prohibition against gun possession by felons, among other controls.

McNeil, the man who allegedly shot the NYPD officers Friday night, is a convicted felon.

“Safe streets worker” (replacing police) gunned down in Baltimore.

During the course of the madness that promoted “defunding” or abolishing the police, there was an emphasis placed on replacing police in some circumstances with “community safety” workers who would supposedly act as unarmed “violence interrupters” and reduce the number of lethal use of force incidents by police officers. In Baltimore, Maryland’s violent gang territories, an existing organization known as the “Safe Streets Program” gained a lot of attention and municipal support in this effort. The goal of the program is to deploy former gang members (or “former”) into areas controlled by the gangs to negotiate nonviolent resolutions to conflicts. Unfortunately, as we’ve seen with other proposed “violence interruption” programs in major cities, sending someone with a clipboard out to resolve a beef between gang members isn’t always effective. That was sadly this case this week when one of Baltimore’s Safe Streets workers was shot to death along with several other people on the East side of Charm City. (Baltimore Sun)

A quadruple shooting in East Baltimore on Wednesday night left three people dead, including a Safe Streets worker, and one person injured, police said. Three others were injured in separate shootings in West and South Baltimore.

At about 7:25 p.m., Eastern District patrol officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 2400 block of E. Monument St. Once there, officers located four men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

A 28-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene. Medics transported three other victims to area hospitals, where a 24-year-old man and another man were also pronounced dead.

Comment O’ The Day
The  problem isn’t that this was a gaffe. The problem is that this revealed what an incoherent clown show the Biden administration’s policy toward the whole matter actually is.

Joe Biden’s gaffe may have inadvertently revealed the truth about his Ukraine policy.

It was 28 minutes into Joe Biden’s press conference when the gaffe came – and it was a jaw-dropper. Especially if you were watching in Kyiv or the Kremlin.
The US President appeared to say that, if Vladimir Putin were to make only a “minor incursion” into Ukraine, then Russia would not face devastating sanctions.
His exact words were: “Russia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does. It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion and we (in Nato) end up having to fight about what to do and what to not do, etcetera.
“But if they actually do what they’re capable of doing, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine.”
The comment whizzed around the world and, as the implications of what he had said sank in, a journalist read it back to him.
Was Mr Biden giving “permission” for a “minor incursion” by Russia into Ukraine, the journalist asked.
Mr Biden laughed and said: “Good question. It did sound (like) that, didn’t it…”
In Kyiv, there were accusations Mr Biden was giving a “green light” to the Kremlin, and anger that he would publicly make a distinction between different levels of Russian attack.
According to the Ukrainians, that was a particularly dangerous thing to do as Mr Putin’s preferred option is believed to be a limited incursion.
It led to suspicions a deal was being done behind Ukraine’s back. Indeed, the fear in Kyiv was that Mr Biden had not so much been wrong, but that he had inadvertently told the truth.
Whatever he meant, it was an example of Mr Biden saying too much, and talking loosely, a failing for which he has form.
In his first press conference for 78 days, the President was perhaps seeking to demonstrate his command of detail, ultimately speaking for almost two hours.
But the moment he finished White House officials desperately scrambled to “clean up” the remarks on Ukraine. Continue reading “”

This will be appealed
Maybe, maybe not, the appeals court will issue an injunction to stop access until the case is heard.
Two years from now, a 3 judge panel of the appeals court will finally rule.
Either way, the losing party will seek an en banc hearing.
If the first panel makes a ‘pro’ rights ruling, then the en banc panel will vacate it and make a ruling to let anyone get the list.
yada-yada-yada
There is a more definite and sure way to keep these records safe.
All it takes is the gun owners of California to summon the willpower to retain their rights the  ‘old fashioned way’.

Judge Allows Violence Researchers Access to CA Gun Owners’ Personal Info

U.S. District Judge Larry Alan Burns has declined to block California’s enactment of Assembly Bill 173, an amendment to California firearms laws authorizing the attorney general to disclose gun owners’ personal information to the California Firearm Violence Research Center at UC Davis and any other “bona fide research institution” meeting certain requirements, reports the Courthouse News Service.

Burns found that there was no “emergency” to warrant restraining California from sharing millions of gun owners’ personal information with gun violence researchers.

Gun owners’ personal information — including their name, address and age — is collected with every firearms sale in California and entered into the “Automated Firearms System” database.

Additional personal information is collected from applicants who apply for a “Carry License” to carry a concealed firearm including Social Security number, California driver’s license or ID number, occupation, address, weight, height and reason for applying to carry the weapon.

Michael Reynolds of Snell & Wilmer raised concerns that the personal information could slip through the cracks of research institutions and be published publicly. Reynolds added that his clients believe that allowing researchers to access their personal information was not for “law enforcement purposes” and violated their privacy rights.

Remember the character Professor Irwin Corey?

Biden acts much more like Putin’s puppet than Trump ever did.

Back in 2017, Walter Russell Mead wrote: If Donald Trump “were the Manchurian candidate that people keep wanting to believe that he is, here are some of the things he’d be doing:

  • Limiting fracking as much as he possibly could
  • Blocking oil and gas pipelines
  • Opening negotiations for major nuclear arms reductions
  • Cutting U.S. military spending
  • Trying to tamp down tensions with Russia’s ally Iran.”

Trump, of course, did none of those things, and indeed the entire “Russian collusion” narrative that the press pushed for his entire presidency has been thoroughly exploded.

But someone is doing these things, right now. I’m talking, of course, about Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., who at his shambolic Wednesday press conference gave Russia the go-ahead to invade Ukraine, though it was quickly walked back by backwalker-in-chief Jen Psaki, his press secretary.

The last time something like that happened was in 1950, when Secretary of State Dean Acheson gave North Korea what appeared to be a green light to invade South Korea. The result was the Korean War. One hopes Biden’s blunder will not bear similar consequences.
