LIMESTONE COUNTY WOMAN PULLS PISTOL ON MAN TRYING TO ATTACK HER ON I-65

An Elkmont woman pulled her pistol on a man after law enforcement says he chased her and tried to run her vehicle off I-65.

34-year-old Charles Baker is now at the Limestone County Jail on domestic violence reckless endangerment and possession of controlled substance charges. Deputies said an altercation between him and woman got physical on Sunday.

The fight began at his home on Roberts Road in Elkmont.

The female victim tried to get away from Baker by leaving the residence.

Court documents say Baker followed the victim up Interstate 65 North and ran her vehicle off the road while chasing her. It also says the incident could have caused injury or damage to the victim or other drivers.

Baker tried to stop her and get in front of her vehicle. That’s when deputies say she pulled her pistol on him. He fled the scene after seeing her gun.

Deputies later found Baker at the intersection of Thatch and Clem Roads. They searched his vehicle and found meth in his car.

Baker’s bond is set at $7,500 and he has a court date set on Feb. 13.

Man shot by off-duty Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy

An off-duty Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy shot a man in the torso after he found the suspect inside his personal vehicle, authorities said Tuesday.

The 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, officials said. His condition was not immediately known.

The deputy, whose name was not released, was not hurt, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The man allegedly lunged toward the deputy after getting out of the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Department said. The deputy then shot the man, striking him once, though it was not released how many shots were fired.

Suspected Robber Trying To Steal Cell Phone Shot By Victim

Police Wednesday were investigating an early morning incident during which one man allegedly attempted to rob another of his cell phone, and was hospitalized after being shot by the attempted robbery victim.

It happened about 6:30 a.m. at 3100 45th Street in the Swan Canyon neighborhood of City Heights, San Diego Police Department Officer Dino Delimitros said.

“An argument between two men turned violent when one of the men attempted to rob the other of his cell phone,” said Delimitros. “The robbery victim produced a handgun and shot the other man once in the upper body.”

Delimitros said the shooter called 911 to report the incident “but fled the scene prior to police arriving.”

“The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and was in stable condition today and is expected to survive,” Delimitros said.

Macon man tries to rob restaurant, gets shot by employee

MACON, Ga. — A Macon man is in jail after trying to rob a Chinese restaurant at gunpoint Saturday night.

A release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says around 8 p.m., a masked man in dark clothing entered the China Inn on Vineville Avenue with a gun and demanded money from the employees.

The man fled on foot after a worker pulled out their gun, the release says. The suspect didn’t get away with anything, and no one was injured.

Later that night around 9:40 p.m., the sheriff’s office says they arrested 27-year-old David Vazquez for the robbery attempt.

The sheriff’s office says it was determined that Vazquez entered the store and pointed his gun at the employees. That’s when one worker pulled out their gun and shot at Vazquez.

As he was running away from the shots, Vazquez and the employees exchanged gunfire, and one of them shot him in the right leg.

The sheriff’s office says Vazquez went to the Medical Center, Navicent Health 20 minutes later to be treated for the gunshot wound. Afterwards, he was taken to the Bibb County Jail.

He’s being held without bond, and no charges are being filed against the clerk, according to the sheriff’s office.

Shot fired in Machesney Park home burglary

MACHESNEY PARK — Within minutes of a homeowner firing a gun at a burglary suspect, a man showed up at a Rockford hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a man interrupted a burglary at his home in 2000 block of Anjali Way and got into a struggle with the suspect, said Bob Redmond of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. A shot was fired and the suspect fled.

It was not clear if the homeowner or suspect was armed with the gun, Redmond said.

While deputies were talking to the homeowner, a gunshot victim arrived at a Rockford hospital. It was not revealed where on the body the man was shot.

As late as 9 p.m., the gunshot victim was still being questioned by deputies.

His condition was not available.

Person comes home to burglary, shoots suspect

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) — Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies say they’re investigating a burglary and shooting in the 2000 block of Anjali Way.

Deputies say, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a person came home to a burglar attempting to break into his or her home and tried to stop the burglary.

Deputies say a struggle then happened between the two, and the suspect was shot in the face.

The suspect then ran from the scene, but later showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies say the person who lived at the home stayed on scene, they are still investigating. Deputies could not say if the alleged burglar was shot with his own gun, or if the person who lived there used a concealed carry firearm.

Woman fatally shoots burglar in southeast Las Vegas Valley

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A woman inside of her house fired one fatal shot at an attempted burglar in the southeast valley on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The woman was home alone about 11:15 a.m. on the 7000 block of Knoll View Drive, near Spencer Street and Warm Springs Road, when she heard glass shatter.

Moments before, she had heard a knock on the door and ignored it, police said.

Las Vegas homicide Lt. Ray Spencer said a 30-year-old man broke through the woman’s sliding glass back door and went into her home. The woman went to her bedroom to get her handgun when the suspect confronted her, Spencer said.

The woman told police the man lunged toward her and she shot him once. He then ran out of the house through the broken door and drove off in a Kia.

Spencer said the woman then called 9-1-1 to report the incident. A nearby patrol officer found the suspect in his Kia about a half-mile away at the intersection of Warm Springs and Spencer Street after having hit a few other cars.

1 dead in Valero gas station shootout in north Harris Co.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — One person died Friday and another was wounded after a shooting at a north Harris County gas station, authorities said.

It happened at a Valero at Cypresswood Drive and FM 1960.

Deputies said it may have begun as a robbery when a man approached a Jeep in the parking lot. A man in the Jeep was shot, but not before exchanging gunfire with the suspect, authorities said.

The man believed to be the suspect died at the scene. The man in the Jeep was taken to a hospital with what authorities described as non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are working to get surveillance video from the gas station.

When they went to rob a man at gunpoint, his wife fired her gun. She’s a Charlotte cop.

Early Friday, multiple suspects approached a couple in the parking lot of an apartment complex in south Charlotte. When they tried to rob the husband at gunpoint, the woman, an off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg officer, took out her gun and fired it, police said.

According to the police, the other suspects fired back then fled the scene, and a 17-year-old male suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer, Emily Bishop, was unharmed.

The State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the shooting, which took place at 12:15 a.m. in the 7900 block of Waterford Tide Loop. An SBI investigation is standard procedure when a CMPD officer shoots and injures someone.

Neighbor uses shotgun to stop Christmas Eve burglar

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—A man who was allegedly trying to break into cars in a northeast Albuquerque neighborhood was caught red-handed by a resident.

Dwight Rivera said he woke to the sound of screaming early Tuesday morning and found his neighbor had pulled a shotgun on a man attempting to break into his car.

“This morning early at three o’clock my RING went off and I saw a man with shotgun and yelling at somebody and I thought it was just a fight but it was somebody breaking into the car and he caught him red-handed,” Rivera said.

Rivera said he could hear his neighbor yelling commands at the alleged burglar over his security system.

“‘Stay down or I’ll blow your head off. Don’t move!’ And he was complaining that ‘Oh my back is hurting me, I have to get up,’ and he said if you move ‘I swear I’ll shoot you’ and you hear this on the RING,” he said.

Police eventually responded and arrested Dakota Estrada. This was the fourth time since September that Estrada has been arrested for breaking into cars.

“These guys should be put in jail for doing this stuff. I could have been shot by the crossfire. This is crazy. And around Christmas time this is even more crazy,” Rivera said.

Estrada was charged with auto burglary. He will make an appearance in court later this week.

1 suspect dead, 1 hurt after attempting to rob fireworks stand

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Two suspects were shot after they attempted to rob a fireworks stand on Christmas Eve in west Harris County, officials say.

It happened at a stand located at 4820 Highway 6 at around 8:30 p.m.

According to a tweet posted by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, three to four men tried to rob the stand when two of them were shot by an employee.

“He’s supposed to be stumbling behind the strip center. Possibly 2 shot. One for sure is probably going to be confirmed,” dispatchers told paramedics at the scene.

Gonzalez says the employee ‘disarmed one of the males’ and shot at the suspects.

“It either results in someone being in prison or someone ending up dead,” Gonzalez said. “In this case the owner was, from early indications, trying to protect himself and the location from robbery.”

One of the suspects who was shot died at the scene, while the other was sent to the hospital. His condition was not released.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the injured suspect as 30-year-old Derrell Ridley. He has nine prior charges with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Male suspect shot after home invasion near Gulf Beach Highway

The home invasion happened just before 6 a.m. on Redoubt Avenue and Gulf Beach Highway, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) tells Channel 3.

ECSO says the suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Jonathan Crook.

Deputies say he faces a non-life-threatening injury to the shoulder.

Reports add that Crook was banging on the homeowner’s door when the owner wouldn’t let him in. Crook was still trying to force his way in when the homeowner fired shot.

Crook then fled and drove himself to the hospital.

A convenience store clerk shot and killed an assailant who assaulted and pistol whipped him during a violent robbery Sunday night in Bay Point — a harrowing attack that was captured on video, officials said.

Kamal Sandhu, owner of Kam’s Market on Port Chicago Highway, said two men entered the store around 11 p.m. with the intention of robbing the place. One of the men pistol-whipped a cashier and held the employee at gunpoint while rifling through the cash register.

“They had a little struggle,” Sandhu said.

In video footage from a camera facing the counter, two men — one dressed in a black sweater with his face covered by a cloth and dark sunglasses; the other wearing a blue jacket, a green hoodie and a backpack — walk into the store from the front entrance and go in separate directions.

The store clerk, putting away money behind the counter, glances at the men but remains focused on his work. The man in black keeps walking before crouching near the end of the counter.

Four seconds later, he approaches the clerk, pointing a gun from his waist. He grabs the clerk and pulls him out of the way before smacking him in the head with the gun. The clerk falls to the ground and the man grabs a stack of bills.

The clerk’s hand reaches for the register, but the man pushes him down as he grabs what appears to be a yellow bin. The thief starts snatching more cash from the register, placing it in the yellow bin, while the clerk puts his hand on his head where he was hit with the gun.

But in a moment the robber looks away, the clerk opens a drawer — blood now flowing from his head — where a gun can be seen. The thief spots him and hits the clerk again while trying to shut the drawer.

The men struggle for six seconds, at which point the thief gets a grasp of his gun and hits the clerk on the head two more times.

The second man who had walked into the store jets out the door.

The clerk stands up, makes eye contact with the thief who had just pistol-whipped him — the two each holding a gun — before the thief runs away without the bin of cash.

Another man runs to the clerk behind the counter, touches him on the back, picks up the gun, tucks it behind his pants and jogs out of the store.

Investigators later determined the clerk had shot his assailant during the attack, said Jimmy Lee, a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding deputies found the robber suffering from a gunshot wound on the ground near the store at the intersection of Lynbrook Street and Desanie Way officials said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately released.

Belleville neighbor shoots armed intruder at apartment

BELLEVILLE IL— The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident in which police say an armed intruder was shot twice in an apartment Tuesday afternoon.

Police say that just before 4:30 p.m., a 20-year-old armed man tried to steal a woman’s car in a parking lot near Elmway Court.

He wasn’t able to steal the car, according to police. The man went to a nearby apartment building, breaking several windows, and held a group of people inside an apartment at gunpoint, they say.

Police believe a neighbor heard a commotion in the apartment and came to the residence armed. The neighbor saw the intruder and shot him twice, police say.

Police arrived and helped get the intruder to a hospital.

The man has injuries that aren’t life-threatening, and police have not reported any additional injuries.

Channelview resident opens fire, killing 3 suspects inside his home

Deputies say two men were inside a home when they heard commotion coming from outside. One of the men looked out and saw three suspects dressed in all black trying to break in.

The man exited his room with a shotgun and opened fire on the suspects, shooting three of them.

During an exchange of gunfire with the suspects, the man was also shot. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

“I want to just warn people that if it turns out that you’re breaking into somebody’s home, regardless of the circumstances, that eventually you’re gonna end up dead or you’re gonna end up in jail,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

Man armed with knife shot, killed by homeowners during home invasion

A man was fatally shot after he broke into a Manistee County home with a knife and assaulted the occupants inside, according to Michigan State Police.

On Dec. 22 at 1:30 p.m. troopers were sent to a report of a home invasion and shooting on 1st Street in Copemish.

MSP said a 29-year-old Copemish man, identified as Nathan Reed, forced his way into a house while brandishing a knife when a man and woman were inside.

There was a physical struggle and one of the occupants shot Reed with a firearm.

Police said Reed died at the scene from gunshot injuries.

The woman was treated for a minor head injury at the scene and was released while the man was uninjured.

Masked gunman killed after shootout in Lauderhill home invasion

A Lauderhill homeowner traded gunfire with a masked intruder and killed the assailant early Saturday, police said.

Officers responded to the home in the 4400 block of Northwest 16th Street after a 911 call about 12:45 a.m. They found a dead man and a weapon.

“There was a masked gunman on the floor, deceased,” said Lt. Michael Santiago, spokesman for Lauderhill police.

The homeowner fired a few rounds from his gun “out of his own fear and protection,” Santiago said. “After he got into the firefight inside his house, he fled the scene to contact police.”

Deadly shooting at DeKalb gas station was in self-defense

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – Police investigated a deadly shooting near Interstate 20 in DeKalb County Saturday night.

Police confirmed one person was shot and killed at the Texaco gas station off Gresham Road. The shooter stayed on the scene and police have determined the shooting was in self-defense.

Police told Channel 2′s Lauren Davis that surveillance video shows the driver of a purple car was inside the car. When the victim drove up, the man got of a car and went over to the purple car.

Investigators said the two drivers got into an argument with each other. Multiple shots were fired, killing the victim.

The car that the victim arrived in drove away. The alleged shooter stayed at the scene.

Shop owner kills two masked men after attempted robbery

An attempted robbery turned deadly for three masked men Friday night.

Fresno Police say the three had gone into Smoke N Vape on Blackstone, near Cambridge, around 9 p.m.

They tried to rob the place, but were instead confronted by the owner.

Police say he fired several rounds, hitting at least two of the men.

The third man ran away from the scene.

The two men died shortly after.

Attempted home invasion ends in gunfire

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – North Charleston Police say two would-be home invaders were fired upon by one of two victims Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the 7900 block of Crossroads Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m. on a report of a possible home invasion and shots fired, according to North Charleston Police spokesperson Karley Ash.

Ash said a couple was inside an apartment when two people knocked on their door. When the man opened the door, the two grabbed him, Ash said.

The girlfriend grabbed a gun and fired at the two men, striking one of them, and both ran away, police say.

Police say they do not believe the attempted home invasion was a random attack.

“After speaking with the victims detectives believe that there was a relationship between the victims and the suspects, and that there is no cause for alarm for the community,” Ash said.

Police say they have good leads on the suspects’ identities and are working to locate and arrest them. Police have not released the identities of the two suspects.

Guard shoots man who tried to grab cash bag at New Jersey bank

WAYNE, New Jersey (WABC) — A suspected bank robber was shot by a security guard during an attempted heist in New Jersey Tuesday.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at a Bank of America on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne.

Authorities say a Loomis Security truck was either making a pickup or a delivery at the Wayne Plaza Square Mall branch when a 33-year-old man tried to steal one of the cash bags one of the guards was carrying.

A struggle ensued, during which the guard fired one round, striking the suspect in the torso.

A second guard remained in the truck while the struggle was taking place.

The suspect was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson and has been admitted in stable condition.

Neither of the guards was injured during the incident.

Alleged victim of Inkster shooting was actually shot during home invasion in Livonia

INKSTER, Mich. (WXYZ) — State troopers are investigating a non-fatal shooting during a home invasion in Livonia.

On Dec. 18 around 7:30 p.m., trooper responded to Beaumont Hospital Wayne for a gunshot victim.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 24-year-old Inkster man arrived at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to police. The victim told officers he was shot in the area of Glenwood and Central in the city of Inkster.

Brookhaven homeowner shoots, kills burglary suspect

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – Police confirmed a homeowner shot and killed a burglary suspect Wednesday afternoon in DeKalb County.

The shooting happened at a home off Wilmont Drive near Clairmont Road. Brookhaven Police told Channel 2 Action News they received a 911 call from the homeowner around noon.

Officers are talking to the homeowner to find out exactly what happened, but it appears the homeowner interrupted the burglary inside his home. The suspect died from his injuries.

Police told Channel 2′s Tom Jones the man has a right to defend himself.

“He’s not identified as a suspect. But as this investigation moves forward we’ll have to see where the facts lead us,” Deputy Chief Brandon Gurley said.

One neighbor told Jones the gunfire sounded like it came from two different guns, but police did not say if the burglar had a weapon.

The neighbor also said the shooting is unusual for the neighborhood. But she is a gun owner and understands why the neighbor did what he did.

“If someone is in your home I know the law on that. Yeah, you do have a right,” she said.

Police are working to identify the suspect. Officers said daytime burglaries increase during the holidays because criminals know people are buying valuable items.

This was the second time in 24 hours that a metro Atlanta homeowner shot an intruder. A Rockdale County resident exchanged gunfire with two suspects during a home invasion.

Woman wounded after exchanging gunfire with home invaders Tuesday night

CONYERS – Rockdale County investigators are trying to determine the circumstances in what appears to be a violent home invasion Tuesday night. The incident left the female homeowner wounded. Deputies also believe a suspect was shot as well.

According to 11Alive News, Sheriff Eric Levett was at the scene on Tuesday night on Lost Valley Drive in Conyers. He said deputies received a call sometime after 6 p.m. about a person shot. When they arrived they found the injured woman.

“She indicated that two black males entered her residence by way of kicking in her front door,” Levett said. “She somehow made it to her bedroom to take cover and locked herself inside the bedroom.”

However, the suspects ran up the stairs and kicked in that door as well.

“Shots were fired,” Levett said. “We don’t know if she shot first or if the suspect or suspects shot first.”

The woman was shot twice, the sheriff said. They believe she struck one of the men. Authorities said the suspects left the scene after the exchange of gunfire.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital. Her condition is not known at this time. Investigators also contacted other area hospitals and law enforcement agencies to see if any other patients showed up with a gunshot wound.

“We received a call about an hour and a half later from DeKalb County stating that they had located a male subject in the roadway that appeared to have some gunshot wounds to his person,” the sheriff said.

However, the sheriff said it’s unclear at this time if the man that was found in the road is connected to this scene.

“Both parties, the victim and this male gentleman that was located are both in surgery,” he said. “We have investigators at both hospitals.”

Deputies are still trying to determine what led up to the incident.

“We don’t know if this house was targeted, we don’t know if she was followed or what the circumstance as to why, this what we believe, to be a home invasion occurred.”

It’s also unclear if anything was taken during the crime. Levett said they will know more information after they are able to talk to everyone.

Myrtletown Card Shop Owner Fires Gun at Would-be Robbers

On Dec. 17, 2019, at about 4:30 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a business on the 1600 block of Myrtle Avenue, in the county’s jurisdiction of Eureka, for the report of a robbery in progress with shots fired.

Upon arrival to the business, deputies made contact with the store owner. According to the store owner, just prior to deputies’ arrival a female suspect entered the business and inquired about selling baseball cards. As the store owner was completing the transaction, an unknown male suspect entered the business and attempted to steal the business’ money drawer.

A struggle ensued between the store owner and the male suspect. At some point during the altercation the store owner discharged a concealed firearm once. The suspects then reportedly fled the business, uninjured, on foot without the business’ money drawer.

Deputies searched the surrounding areas but were unable to locate the suspects.

The suspects are described as:

  • Male adult, possibly dark-complected, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall to 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing dark pants, a dark thermal-type long sleeve shirt underneath a dark short sleeve shirt, a dark baseball cap and a white mask over his nose and mouth.
  • White female adult, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, heavy build, with black hair, wearing a purple jacket and blue jeans.

This incident is still under investigation.

FedEx Driver Fatally Shoots Suspect During Armed Robbery In Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say a FedEx driver fatally shot a suspect during an attempted robbery in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday night. The shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m. on the 600 block of Unruh Avenue in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood.

It should have been a routine delivery with the 32-year-old FedEx driver dropping off a package to a home in the area. But that’s when police say an armed gunman approached and robbed the driver, perhaps not anticipating that the FedEx driver was also armed.

“He was able to tell police that he was making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh and right when he got done making that delivery he was approached by at least one male and he was robbed at point of gun,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police say the driver was shot once in the abdomen during the robbery. Police say as they were receiving calls about shots fired in the area, the FedEx driver was able to drive himself to a nearby parking lot away from the scene.

He was transported to Einstein Medical Center and is in stable condition.

He told police that after being shot in the stomach, he pulled out his own weapon and returned fire at the suspect.

“Initially, we did not know whether the perpetrator was struck by gunfire,” Small said.

But minutes later, police were called to the 1400 block of Creston Street where they found a 27-year-old man in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to chest, back and torso. The suspect died at the hospital.

Also near that scene, investigators located a vehicle where some of the items stolen from the FedEx truck were found inside. Police also say blood and a shell casing was found inside the vehicle.

A second person of interest was also located with the vehicle. Police are looking into whether that person drove the robbery suspect from the shooting scene to where he was found.

Back on Unruh Avenue, at least seven spent shell casings were found near where the package was delivered.

This is now a homicide investigation so police will determine whether the FedEx driver was acting in self-defense.

When asked if drivers are allowed to carry firearms, FedEx told CBS they “are not at liberty to disclose details of our internal policies.”

Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy shot off-duty at home, kills attacker

WATSON, La. (KLFY) – One man is dead after an off-duty deputy-involved shooting in Livingston Parish.

Shortly before 1 a.m. today (Dec. 16), the Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy was at his home when he was reportedly confronted by an armed individual. A physical altercation occurred, in which both the deputy and his attacker discharged their guns. Both were struck by gunfire.

The attacker was pronounced dead at the scene, while the deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Neither person’s identity has been released.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation was contacted to investigate and gather all facts surrounding the incident. Louisiana State Police Troop A is assisting in the investigation.

 

Victims of home invasion killed intruder

BATON ROUGE – Officials have confirmed the death of one man following a Thursday night shooting in the unincorporated community of Alsen, in the northern area of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the scene around 10 p.m., shortly after shots were fired at a home in the 200 block of Rafe Mayer Road.

Authorities say Herman Hills was killed in the shooting.

According to deputies, Hills was armed with a gun as he forced his way into the family’s home and demanded money. The family fought back, wrestling with Hills to get a hold of his gun. During the altercation, one of the family members shot Hills, killing him.

Hills had a lengthy criminal history, his most recent run-in with police was only days ago, on Dec. 9, when he was arrested for theft.

Suspect fatally shot during robbery attempt at apartment on eastside

HOUSTON — Houston Police homicide detectives are investigating a shooting on the eastside that has left at least one person dead overnight.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday at the Timber Ridge Apartments near the East Freeway and Federal Road.

Details are limited at this time.

HPD was called out because of the shooting when officers learned that two possible young suspects may have tried to rob someone at the complex.

Police say the victim was armed and opened fire on the suspects, fatally wounding one of them.

Orangevale burglary suspect shot by homeowner

ORANGEVALE, Calif. (KTXL) — Authorities are investigating a burglary attempt and a shooting on Santa Juanita Avenue in Orangevale.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday, a man called authorities to report a burglary attempt at his home. The man told authorities he confronted the burglar and shot him.

The man said the burglar ran to a car and the car fled the scene.

Soon after, Roseville police located a man riding in a car on Sierra College Boulevard who had a gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

At this time, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies believe the man found on Sierra College Boulevard is the same man suspected of burglarizing the home in Orangevale.

Man shot while trying to break into apartment on Spottswood

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said a man was shot Thursday while trying to break into an apartment near Highland and Southern.

Police found a man with a gunshot wound around 1 p.m. at the University Highlands apartments in the 3400 block of Spottswood.

Officers detained one man on the scene and are continuing to investigate.

Police said the victim was trying to break into a residence when he was shot.

It was a scary situation that neighbors were shocked to hear about, but they’re hoping this failed burglary attempt will serve as a deterrent to any future criminals.

Residents said they’ve never had a violent break-in like this.

“That’s why I was alarmed when I heard about it,” Ladarius Jordan said. “A break-in is unusual around here. But I guess you gotta be on your Ps and Qs at times.”

“I mean, I haven’t heard about any break-ins,” Alisha Stephenson said. “You might hear an argument or something, but nothing too serious.”

People WREG spoke with said the resident had every right to protect his home and property.

“It comes to safety first,” Jordan said. “If someone’s trying to attempt a burglary or robbery of your home, you have all rights to defend yourself. It just so happens that the person got shot.”

Pizza Delivery Driver Shot, Killed Suspect Who Tried To Rob Him In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – For the second time this week, a delivery driver was attacked in northeast Dallas. This time, however, the delivery driver fired at the suspects, killing one and critically injuring another.

Police said the shooting happened at around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 8100 block of Southwestern Boulevard near Greenville Avenue.

According to police, three males allegedly tried to rob the driver, but the driver had a gun and shot at them to fend them off.

Police said two of the suspects were shot and that one of them died from his injuries. The other is in critical condition in the hospital. The third suspect was detained at the scene.

The delivery driver was not injured. Police are continuing to investigate and have not said what charges will be filed for this incident.

On Monday, a delivery driver was shot five times while dropping off food at the Pearl at Midtown apartments in northeast Dallas. He’s expected to be okay and the suspect was arrested at the scene.

 

Man shot while attempting to burglarize Fayette County home; now in police custody at hospital

REDSTONE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Pennsylvania State Police said a man was sent to an area hospital after being shot while trying to burglarize a home in Fayette County Friday night.

State police said the suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Adam Earl Morgan. Police said he is also responsible for two other burglaries, along National Pike, in Redstone Township, that happened on Friday night.

“He climbed up a table and some chairs,” said neighbor Joe Shashura.

The back window to Joe and Sue Shashura’s home had been broken and several items stolen, minutes before police said Morgan walked into their neighbor’s home and was shot.

“I guess it doesn’t take more than five or 1o minutes. He grabbed a pillowcase, filled it with jewelry, anything he could find, cash money and all that,” said Joe Shashura.

The Shashuras said they are typically home, but each was invited out by their daughters on the night of the break-in.

“Relieved that I wasn’t here. I was going to come home earlier, but my daughter asked me to go out to eat dinner,” said Sue Shashura. “I was very tired, I didn’t want to go, but things happen for a reason.”

Morgan was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital where he was charged with three counts of burglary.

Police said Morgan was shot by a teenager who was home alone at the time he broke in.

Police said Morgan ran away after being shot, but was later found lying along the road and taken to the hospital.

KCPD officer on leave after shooting at intruder while off duty in his own home

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Officials placed a Kansas City, Missouri police officer on leave Monday morning as they investigate a shooting near Bales and St. John Avenue.

KCPD Sgt. Jake Becchina said in a news release that around 2:30 a.m. the officer, who was off duty, used his radio to ask for help at his home.

“He told officers he had fired shots at an intruder,” Becchina added.

The off-duty officer told responding officers that he was home alone and walked down the stairs at his home when he heard the sounds of an intruder and found a strange man inside, the news release said.

“Fearing for his safety, he fired multiple shots at the intruder,” Becchina said in the release. “He (the intruder) then ran from the scene.”

Police said they are still looking for the intruder. They are not sure whether any of the shots injured the intruder.

Suspect shot during attempted robbery at Yulee arcade

YULEE, Fla. — Four people are in custody after deputies say a robbery turned to a shooting at an arcade in Yulee Sunday evening.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News four suspects tried to rob The Tracks Arcade on State Road 200 just west of U.S. 17. A security guard intervened and shot one of the suspects in the arm and buttock, according to the sheriff’s office. All four suspects then got in a car and sped off but were later caught by deputies on Interstate-95 and SR-200.

No other injuries were reported and the injured suspect is expected to be OK.

Man shot twice by Macomb County gas station clerk after hitting employee with bottle

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after being shot two times at a Macomb County gas station.

It happened just before 8:15 p.m. at the Mobil gas station near the intersection of Hall and Heydenreich roads.

According to authorities, a man entered the gas station and struck the clerk over the head with a bottle. The employee shot the man twice in the abdomen.

Police said the man was conscious when he was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The clerk was also checked out medically.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.

Brevard County homeowner fatally shoots intruder

A homeowner shot and killed a man who he said was attempting to burglarize his Cocoa home, officials said.

Police received a call from the homeowner around noon Wednesday.

Officials said the homeowner told them a person in black and wearing a mask broke out a window at the back of the house in an attempt to get inside.

The homeowner said he fired a gun at the person climbing into his home, causing the burglar to fall back outside, deputies said.

Officials said when they got to the home on Brophy Boulevard, a man was found dead in the backyard.

The homeowner’s stepfather Clarence Patterson spoke with WESH 2 News about the incident.

“(My stepson) saw one of them throwing a bicycle through the window there. He threw the bicycle through the window and my stepson shot five or six times. He hit that one; I don’t know if he hit the other one,” Patterson said.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said there may have been a second man involved in the attempted burglary but has not found anyone.

Officials said that man was described as a black man in his early 20s wearing black pants with white stripes, a black shirt and either a white hoodie or a white shirt around his head.

The identities of the man who was killed and the homeowner have not been released

CPL holder shoots man trying to rob in him Detroit

DETROIT (FOX 2) – A man walking on Detroit’s west side was carrying his gun and his CPL when someone tried to rob him. He used his gun and the attempted robber in the street.

Police were called around 6:45 to the 18600 block of Grayfield to the shooting. A 25-year-old man was walking when an armed man tried to rob him.

The victim has a concealed pistol license and pulled his gun. Both men shot at each other and the robbery suspect was hit in the body.

He was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Arkansas suspect winds up in hospital after shootout with store manager

HELENA- WEST HELENA, Ark. — A suspect who allegedly tried to rob a local store manager and his son early Thursday morning wound up in the hospital after the victim fought back.

The store manager and his child were opening up Jordan’s Kwik Stop on Sebastian Street around 5:45 a.m. Thursday when a man with a gun forced them inside. The man reportedly said “let me get everything” and held them at gunpoint.

According to police, the store manager said, “OK, hold on, let me get it for you,” then grabbed a gun and shot the suspect twice during a shootout.

A clerk shot a man during a robbery attempt at this store in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.

The suspect ran from the scene, but eventually showed up at the Helena Regional Hospital. From there, he was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Demetrius Morant, 27, was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree.

His bond was set at $155,000. His first court appearance will be set after his release from the hospital.

One dead, another injured after store employee shoots robbery suspects

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — One person is dead and another is injured after a store clerk shoots two robbery suspects.

It happened just before 9 p.m. at a store on the 1700 block of NE 24th.

According to Amarillo Police, the two suspects walked into the store with a rifle and attempted to rob the clerk.

APD said the clerk had a handgun and shot both suspects.

Officials on scene told MyHighPlains.com the two were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police told us one of the suspects, Queshon Johnson, 17, died from his injuries at the hospital. The other suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was shot in the lower extremities and taken to surgery.
