The coronavirus pandemic has brought hunger to millions of people around the world. National lockdowns and social distancing measures are drying up work and incomes, and are likely to disrupt agricultural production and supply routes — leaving millions to worry how they will get enough to eat.
In Canada, possession of a firearm in ready condition for self defense is against their law. In fact the Canadian gubbermint idea of just how the people can use force to defend themselves is so different from here in the U.S., I wouldn’t live there even if you paid me.

CANADA RAMPAGE PROOF GUN CONTROL WON’T PREVENT TRAGEDIES
BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today said the weekend rampage in Nova Scotia provided more proof that strict gun control laws will not prevent determined individuals from committing mayhem.
Authorities now say at least 22 people were killed, as more victims have been discovered by investigators. Many were apparently killed in their own homes while obeying “stay home” mandates due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We offer our sympathies to our Canadian neighbors, and especially to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their loss,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “But we do not believe adding more restrictions on gun ownership for law-abiding Canadian citizens will to anything to prevent such tragedies in the future.
“For decades,” he continued, “we have been on the front lines in the battle to protect our Second Amendment. We’ve listened to repeated claims that the next new gun law is going to prevent violent crimes and make people safer. The only people made safer by restrictive gun laws are criminals and crazy persons who attack honest citizens, even in their own homes, and to whom ‘gun-free zone’ signs translate to a risk-free environment.”
Gottlieb noted that the presumed Nova Scotia killer apparently fooled at least some of his victims by dressing as an RCMP constable, and driving around in what apparently was a decommissioned patrol vehicle he had restored.
“Canada has very strict gun policies, but those regulations did not prevent the murder spree,” Gottlieb observed. “We find it appalling that many in the U.S. gun prohibition movement have argued in support of Canadian-type gun laws for this country. It is time for gun control extremists on both sides of the border to admit their strategies have consistently failed, and in some cases have even cost lives.
“Instead of allowing anti-gunners to exploit this tragedy,” he said, “let’s learn from it. The very first lesson may be hard for some to accept, but it is this: Extremist gun control laws do not prevent unspeakable crimes and they perpetuate a false sense of security that often has tragic results. Adopting new restrictions will not change that dynamic and may even make things worse. We cannot allow what happened in Canada to influence our policies here. We must zealously protect our right to keep and bear arms.”
Man shot, critically injured in University Place [Washington] after allegedly jumping a couple
Two men were shot in University Place early Tuesday after one allegedly attacked the other as he was walking with his girlfriend. The confrontation occurred about 5:35 a.m. at 40th Street West and Sunset Drive West.
When Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Deputies applied a tourniquet and discovered the suspect lying in the grass nearby suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Both men were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. The suspect is listed in critical condition.
The victim and his girlfriend told detectives they were walking west on 40th Street West when they noticed two men who appeared to be following them. They allegedly stopped at one point to allow the men to pass, but the suspects also stopped.
“He said the suspect grabbed him by the throat and said, ‘This is how it’s gonna go down,’” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The victim told deputies he was afraid for his life and shot the other man once or twice. A pistol was found at the scene. The couple said they do not know the suspects, one of whom ran after the shooting and has not been identified.

The Coronavirus Economy Is a Preview of the Green New Deal Economy
Eric Holthaus, a popular online climate-change activist, points out that the allegedly positive environmental effects of the coronavirus crisis are on “roughly the same pace that the IPCC says we need to sustain every year until 2030 to be on pace to limit global warming to 1.5C and hit the Paris climate goals.”
“We’re doing it. It’s possible!” he adds.
It’s nice to see an environmentalist finally acknowledging the inherent economic tradeoff of their vision. Holthaus is absolutely correct that implementing a plan like the Green New Deal would hold approximately the same gruesome economic consequences as the coronavirus crisis — except, of course, forever. The point of modern environmentalism, as Greta Thunberg has hinted, is the destruction of wealth. This process is what Holthaus, and others, euphemistically call “degrowth.”
Holthaus, who doesn’t celebrate coronavirus, reminds us that merely to keep pace with the IPCC recommendations on carbon emissions, Americans would be compelled to shut down virtually the entire economy. They would need to restrict air travel, place most Americans under virtual house arrest (or raze all the suburbs), halt international and interstate trade, destroy millions of jobs, shut down large swaths of manufacturing, and stop people from using their cars — or buying gas.
How would it work? The only “Green New Deal” that we’ve ever actually seen was authored by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Her plan, one supported by the Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden, calls for the banning of all fossil fuels, 99 percent of cars and planes, and meat-eating, among many other nonsensical regulations, within the next decade.
Also, you’d have to compel people to participate. I feel confident that Americans won’t voluntarily relive the 19th century because, whether intuitively or not, they comprehend that by nearly every quantifiable measure their lives are better because of the affordability and reliability of fossil fuels. One day that reality might change. Today is not that day.
It took a deadly worldwide pandemic to get Americans to suspend modernity, so you can assume it would take authoritarian measures to shut down the free movement of people. But Holthaus reminds us that the fight to stop climate change is often about more than separating your plastics and papers or installing some state-subsidized solar panels, it’s about a fundamental, societal economic upheaval that would throw millions into poverty.
Moreover, the Green New Deal would necessitate that capitalistic society be displaced by a technocratic regime that dictates what you consume, sell, drive, eat, and where you work. This, says Holthaus, “is what ‘rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society’ looks like.”
Indeed.
Andrew Cuomo’s coronavirus nursing home policy proves tragic.
The letter was heartbreaking as it recounted the death of an 88-year-old woman in a New York nursing home. But it was also angry and accurate about a strange New York policy that is fatally wrongheaded.
“I am wondering who will hold Gov. Cuomo accountable for the deaths of so many older people due to his reckless decision to place covid19 patients in nursing and rehabilitation homes,” the letter began. “I am writing as a daughter who lost her beautiful 88 year old mother who was receiving physical therapy at one such facility.”
The writer, Arlene Mullin, went on to recount examples of the governor promising to protect the elderly because of their known vulnerability. She noted that he named his stay-at-home order after his own mother, Matilda Cuomo, and talked several times about protecting her.
“My mother is not expendable and your mother is not expendable and our brothers and sisters are not expendable,” Cuomo said a month ago.
Mullin had another complaint, too — that the media never asked the governor about an order mandating that nursing homes admit and readmit patients who tested positive for the coronavirus, despite the extraordinary number of deaths among the elderly.
That drought ended Monday when The Post’s Bernadette Hogan asked about the policy at Cuomo’s daily briefing. His answer was stunning.
“That’s a good question. I don’t know,” the governor said.
He turned to Howard Zucker, the state health commissioner, who confirmed the policy, saying “if you are positive, you should be admitted back to a nursing home. The necessary precautions will be taken to protect the other residents there.”
The second part of Zucker’s answer is debatable, the first part is not. The disastrous results speak for themselves.
Four Southern California Counties Start Declaring Independence From Wuhan Virus and the Governor.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that his state will be reopened to business activity slowly but that now is not the time.
Still, businesses in four southern California counties have begun declaring independence from the Wuhan virus and from Newsom.
Golf courses in Riverside, Ventura County, will begin allowing golfers to head back out to the course this weekend. Orange County will open golf courses soon. Golfers will play in foursomes and adhere to social distancing. No food will be served on the premises. Ventura County, home to Simi Valley, Oxnard, and Camarillo, has pronounced that gatherings of four or more in one place are illegal. Exercising will be allowed outside, however. Riverside County has ordered golfers to wear face masks. No caddies are allowed and only one person is allowed to be in a golf cart.
Hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and tennis players in Ventura County can resume their activities as long as masks are worn.
Operators of the Mt. Baldy ski resort in San Bernardino County have chosen to reopen, offering probably the last chance to ski before summer sun turns the snow to mush. The resort announced that social distancing measures would be enforced:

People 75 years old and older are still ordered to stay home in Ventura and “non-essential” travel is forbidden.

The taste these bureacraps got of nearly unlimited power overrode their mental ethical limitations -if they had any in the first place- and has let the inner dictator hiding just under the surface of their personality come out in all its glory. CDC Director Robert Redfield gave an interview to the Washington Post on the Wuhan virus panic and he made it clear, as have other so-called public health authorities that these people really have no intention of letting us getting back to our lives and they have willing allies in the national media.
Even as states move ahead with plans to reopen their economies, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Tuesday that a second wave of the novel coronavirus will be far more dire because it is likely to coincide with the start of flu season.
“There’s a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,” CDC Director Robert Redfield said in an interview with The Washington Post. “And when I’ve said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don’t understand what I mean.”
“We’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” he said.
Having two simultaneous respiratory outbreaks would put unimaginable strain on the health-care system, he said. The first wave of covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, has already killed more than 42,000 people across the country. It has overwhelmed hospitals and revealed gaping shortages in test kits, ventilators and protective equipment for health-care workers.

As stay-at-home orders are lifted, officials need to stress the continued importance of social distancing, he said. They also need to massively scale up their ability to identify the infected through testing and find everyone they interact with through contact tracing. Doing so prevents new cases from becoming larger outbreaks.Asked about protests against stay-at-home orders and calls on states to be “liberated” from restrictions, Redfield said: “It’s not helpful.” The president himself has tweeted encouragements of such protests, urging followers to “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” and “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!”
First, let’s strip away some of the bullsh** the Washington Post is trying to peddle. Even the worst hit state (at least according to its own numbers which are highly suspect), New York, was never short of hospital beds, respirators, ICU beds, or staff. In fact, the major overflow facilities represented by the hospital ship, USNS Comfort, and the Javits Center have seen only a handful of patients. By itself, this is no big deal. There is no human intervention that is going to eradicate the Wuhan virus, it is part of the North American ecosystem forever. Of course, there is going to be a ‘second wave’ and a ‘third wave’ and a ‘fourth wave’ and an ‘nth wave.’ But this statement does not exist in a vacuum. Let’ go back a couple of days to an interview given by Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Center for Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of the key architects of the national response to the Wuhan virus (read Dr. Fauci Decides He Is Galactic Commander and Warns That Protests Will Delay Reopening the Country). In that post, I cover his statements to the effect than an early opening would create a larger ‘second wave.’ But there are two other equally important points. First, the tests being bought from all sources, like the 500,000 my own RINO governor purchased from South Korea, aren’t terribly reliable. As the entire strategy for opening the country is predicated on widespread testing, this seems important. The other point was that there is no evidence that having had and survived Wuhan (which is probably something that 99+% of the people with it do) gives you any immunity. That is entirely consistent with the finding of more than 30 mutations of Wuhan virus, the corollary to that being that there will be no vaccine for this virus.
So, no immunity and no vaccine. What does that mean? It means the people who foisted this disaster upon us are going to try to make us go through lockdown and ‘social distancing’ and all that other crap again in November and again in March. Forever. They have to push for that because if there is a ‘second wave,’ which there will be, and we don’t shutdown again, then they are going to have to answer some very tough questions as to why we did it this time. And they don’t have any answer to that……..

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost every major study on defensive gun use has found that Americans use their firearms defensively between 500,000 and 3 million times each year. Police Have Started Revolting Against Draconian Coronavirus Edicts From Local Tyrants
Police chiefs from Texas to Washington are standing up against draconian orders from local leaders demanding strict adherence to extreme social distancing measures to curb the spread of the novel Wuhan coronavirus.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union declared Wednesday that its members would refrain from enforcing local County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s ruling deeming it mandatory for any individual over the age of 10 to wear a mask in public.
“The Houston Police Officers’ Union believes everyone should be wearing a mask in public, in order to protect themselves from the virus and we are encouraging all of our officers to wear a mask,” the union wrote in a statement. “However, we draw the line at the draconian measures Hidalgo has decided to engage in.”
“Our officers work every single day to bridge the gap with our community and earn their trust, we will not stand idly by and allow Hidalgo to tear that bridge down, with her horrific leadership and echo chamber decision making.”
The police union said it had contacted the state attorney general’s office to determine whether Hidalgo’s ruling was even constitutional, noting that until then, members were encouraged to use discretion in enforcement of the measure as resources are already stretched thin from the pandemic.
In Washington, Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney announced Tuesday that his officers would also abstain from enforcement of lockdown orders, joining Franklin County Sheriff J.D. Raymond who said he would not stop churches and business from opening with reasonable distancing measures in place.
“As I have previously stated, I have not carried out any enforcement for the current stay-at-home order,” Fortney wrote on Facebook. “I will always put your constitutional rights above politics or popular opinion. We have the right to peacefully assemble. We have the right to keep and bear arms. We have the right to attend church service of any denomination.”
Fortney challenged Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s lockdown orders as inconsistent, deeming some businesses essential over others. While government construction projects may continue Fortney points out, private contractors remain out of work.
“As I arrive to work at the courthouse, I see landscapers show up each day to install new landscape and maintain our flowerbeds,” Fortney wrote. “However, a father who owns a construction company and works alone while outdoors is not allowed to run his business to make a living to provide for his wife and children?”
“This contradiction is not okay and is bordering on unethical,” said Fortney.
Further east in Michigan, four sheriffs in the northwest part of the mitten also announced last week that they would refuse to enforce Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdown orders which have been the most extreme in the country.
By the stroke of a pen, Whitmer has deemed it illegal for Michiganders to travel “between residences” or buy seeds while lottery tickets remain permitted to purchase.
Whitmer, the sheriffs said in a joint statement, “has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.”
“As a result, we will not have strict enforcement of these orders,” the sheriffs wrote. “We will deal with every case as an individual situation and apply common sense in assessing the apparent violation… We believe that we are the last line of defense in protecting your civil liberties.”
As the pandemic over the Wuhan coronavirus stretches into the next month, wreaking havoc on the American economy, an anxious public is losing its patience with increasingly strict lockdowns keeping millions out of work while models have proven inaccurate.
Since the start of the pandemic, more than 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment over just four weeks and protests against shelter-in-place orders have begun to appear nationwide.
Last week, several state governors announced they would allow shelter-in-place orders to expire either on or before April 30 with certain conditions in place to kickstart their stalled economies while keeping the virus at bay.
States preparing partial reopenings include Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas.

Man shot during home intrusion argument in east Toledo
TOLEDO (WTVG) – An alleged home intruder was shot in a east Toledo residence early Tuesday morning.
Police responded to a person shot early around 1 a.m. in the 400 block of 4th St. When they arrived, they learned Darnell Jones, 28, entered the residence of James Hardwick, 29, without his knowledge or invitation. Jones has a listed address next door to Hardwick.
After a verbal exchange, Jonathon Hardwick, 26, of Springfield, fired one round from his Glock 40 caliber pistol, striking Jones in the chest.
Jones was transported to Mercy St. Vincent’s Medical Center. His wounds are not believe to be life threatening, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police identify man involved in fatal home invasion
RAND SALINE, Texas (KETK) – A home invasion turned fatal Tuesday morning after the homeowner shot the man.
The Grand Saline Department is investigating the fatal shooting that took place in the 1100 block of W. Frank Street. It happened just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday when a man reportedly entered someone’s home and the homeowner shot him.
EMS crews arrived and were unable to resuscitate him. The victim has been identified as Nathan Shields, 35.

NIH Pans Hydroxychloroquine, Sets Up Multiple New Media Narratives
Yet another highly-predictable outcome. – Late Tuesday, a panel of “experts” – the same kind of “experts” who assured us just a month ago that the Wuhan Virus would kill 2 million Americans – announced their disapproval for hydroxychloroquine in combination with axithromycin as a treatment for the Wuhan Virus.
Here’s an excerpt from an NPR report on the matter:
A panel of experts convened by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases recommends against doctors using a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin for the treatment of COVID-19 patients because of potential toxicities.
“The combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin was associated with QTc prolongation in patients with COVID-19,” the panel said.
QTc prolongation increases the risk of sudden cardiac death.
The recommendation against their combined use would seem to fly in the face of comments made by President Trump suggesting the combination might be helpful. On March 21, for example, the president described them in a tweet as having a “real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.”

In English, the QTc prolongation means that HCQ can be dangerous for people who suffer from irregular heartbeats, an affliction most common among seniors, who are already vulnerable to the virus. This is in fact a long-known side effect of HCQ.
Gun Control Spokesman Insults New Gun Owners
David Chipman was once a respected special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. That was before he decided to peddle gun control.
Now, he’s reduced to name calling and holding his breath until he turns blue. It’s all because America’s ignoring his Chicken Little “the sky is falling” admonitions of those who dare to not believe the gun control ideas he’s selling.
Sorry, Mr. Chipman. During the past month hundreds of thousands of Americans went from indifferently listening to the gun control agenda to buying guns – to the tune of at least 2.3 million of them last month. Still, that doesn’t excuse his insults, slurs and mudslinging. The spate in gun purchases pulled back the veil and revealed gun control zealots for who they really are. They aren’t for gun safety. They’re not for the “common-sense” laws they crowed about to adoring and accommodating media. They are really about denying law-abiding Americans their fundamental civil liberties. They don’t want Americans to provide for their own safety, but would rather they live on the spoon-fed, fear-filled lies doled out by gun control groups in measured proportions, just enough to keep people kowtowed and doubting their own abilities to exercise safe and responsible firearms ownership.
Chipman, who is a Senior Policy Advisor for Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, is spending more time than ever not fighting gun violence, but gun ownership. When the surge started in gun sales at the outset of the COVD-19 health crisis, Chipman dismissed the buyers as fearful and preparing “for end times scenarios and zombie apocalypses.”

Michael Moore Admits He Had No Idea Where the Juice to Power Electric Cars Came From
Michael Moore is out with a new film the media will hype but most Americans will never see. This speaks well of the latter and poorly of the former.
In a Reuters story promoting Moore’s latest, he admits:
Moore said that he, like many people, thought electric cars were a good idea, “but I didn’t really think about where is the electricity coming from?”
That’s awesome. Moore has been going around for decades promoting politicians and policies that would basically wreck the economy. He wanted a coronavirus-level economic tsunami before we’d ever heard of Wuhan and its bats.
But he had no idea what he was talking about. He continues.
“I assumed solar panels would last for ever. I didn’t know what went into the making of them,” Moore added, referring to raw materials, including quartz, and the fossil fuels needed to manufacture the panels.

President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that the United States would destroy Iranian gunboats that harass American ships at sea.
The threat, which contributed to a recovery in oil prices, came days after the Pentagon claimed that ships from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy took “dangerous and provocative” actions near U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships in the Persian Gulf.
“I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea,” the president wrote in a post on Twitter.
West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, rose more than than 30% on Wednesday after slumping to historic lows this year as the coronavirus pandemic crushed demand. Iran produced 3% of the world’s oil last year.
Six U.S. military vessels were conducting training operations in international waters last week when 11 Iranian ships “crossed the bows and sterns of the U.S. vessels at extremely close range and high speeds,” according to the April 15 U.S. Navy statement.
At one point, the Iranian ships came within 10 yards of the Coast Guard cutter Maui’s bow.

Oil prices went into negative territory yesterday, meaning there was more oil sloshing around on the market than buyers, and for the first time producers were literally offering to pay people to take it way. The prices actually went negative.
That’s an indicator of a crashed economy.
And a dinner triangle for morons. Who should show up but Boston University economics major, professional socialist, and Milton Keynes fan, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Then when someone alerted her that the cheer was ill-advised, given all the oil workers who were losing their jobs, she got rid of the tweet, but in the way of a stubborn banjo-kid-level ignoramus, stood her ground. According to Fox News:
After deleting her post, Ocasio-Cortez tried again, writing: “This snapshot is being acknowledged as a turning point in the climate movement. Fossil fuels are in long-term structural decline. This along w/ low interest rates means it‘s the right time to create millions of jobs transitioning to renewable and clean energy. A key opportunity.”
Throughout the day, Ocasio-Cortez has also reposted various messages essentially saying the oil crash presents an opportunity for environmentalists.
Her simpleton logic was that with the oil industry crashing, a new green energy industry would rise as a result.
It’s ridiculous. The green energy industry, such as it is, came about because of high oil prices. High oil prices meant buyers were looking for alternatives, and if oil prices were going to be high, then it might not make that much difference price-wise if one got one’s energy from wind power or ethanol or solar power or manure fires, or whatever it takes to call an energy source ‘green.’ Ocasio-Cortez, of course, has big plans to end all fossil fuel use in the country and convert it all to the pipe dream of green energy.
She reads the crash of the oil industry as the wake up call to go green.
In emitting her gaseous cheers, she demonstrated with perfect pitch that she doesn’t understand the simplest laws of supply and demand.
Oil prices are crashing because people aren’t buying.
And if cheap oil can’t be so much as given away by sellers because of the lack of buyers, why would anyone want to buy more expensive green energy instead? The oil industry is literally paying people to take their oil away and nobody’s doing it because the economy is dead. And here she thinks economically battered people somehow have lots of money to pay for green energy, which even if they did, would choose overpriced, under-performing green energy instead getting oil for free? The idiocy of this creature boggles the mind.
What’s especially stupid here in this brain-of-a-seven-year old cheering is that big league socialists, the ones with real power, have always grasped the importance of high oil prices. Hugo Chavez, the late socialist dictator of Venezuela, and a clown who didn’t know a whole lot about economics either, understood that little detail. Less than 20 years earlier, he vowed to drive oil prices up to $200 a barrel and leave America prostrate by cutting off our access to oil as a means to “defeat” us. Instead of watching America grovel, he ended up with an own-goal, triggering the great fracking boom that effectively ended his capacity to use oil as a weapon.
All petrotyrants went downhill after fracking transformed America into the world’s largest oil producer as well as a net exporter of energy. Vladimir Putin loves high oil prices and bankrolls greenie groups in Europe to encourage a stranglehold on fossil fuel production in the name of going green. Other socialist tinpot dictators in Africa and elsewhere also thrive on high oil prices. Not a one of them wants these prices to go down, because they recognize that high oil prices keep them in power.
But then we have Ocasio-Cortez, babe in the woods, imagining that in this hellish oil price situation, a green paradise beckons.
And speaking of power, oil also keeps the lights on in Ocasio-Cortez’s New York City, too, as Fox News noted:

It just doesn’t get stupider than this. Ocasio-Cortez has revealed a lot about her economic illiteracy with this ignorant tweet. It’s time for Boston University to be investigated for issuing diplomas to fools this ignorant. Nobody should pay attention to another thing this blithering idiot says.
