Harris says she had key role in Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal decision
The vice president confirmed she was the last person in the room before Biden made the decision to move forward with withdrawing U.S. troops.

Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed Sunday that she was the last person in the room before President Joe Biden made the decision to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan.

In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” Harris was asked about being the last person in the room regarding major decisions, something that Biden has said is important to him in his working relationship with the vice president. Harris confirmed that was the case regarding the move to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11.

The decision to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan was announced earlier this month. American troops have been in Afghanistan since October 2001, when the U.S. invaded in response to the 9/11 attacks the previous month.

“This is a president who has an extraordinary amount of courage,” she said, regarding the decision. “He is someone, who I have seen over and over again, make decisions based on what he truly believes … is the right thing to do.”

Harris said that Biden “is acutely aware that it may not be politically popular, or advantageous for him personally; it’s really something to see.”

“I have seen him over and over again make decisions based exactly on what he believes is right,” she noted.

B-52 bombers head to Afghanistan

American B-52H bombers are understood to be conducting an attack on the largest Afghan air force base in order to destroy the aircraft based there.

The aircraft are reportedly heading towards toward Mazar-e-Sharif.

The BBC report here that Taliban fighters recently captured Mazar-e-Sharif, the last major city in northern Afghanistan which was still under government control.

“The fall of the traditional anti-Taliban bastion marked a major gain for the militants, who have been advancing at speed as US-led forces withdraw.President Ashraf Ghani travelled to the city just days ago to rally troops. The Taliban are now in control of much of the country and are edging closer to the capital Kabul.

More than a quarter of a million people have been displaced by the violence, and many have headed to Kabul in hopes of finding safety. Women in areas captured by the Taliban have described being forced to wear burkas and the militants are also reported to have beaten and lashed people for breaking social rules.”

Countries are scrambling to evacuate their citizens, including the UK.

Facing Catastrophic Defeat, Biden Has Finally Chimed in on Afghanistan

After leaving the White House Thursday and days of silence in Wilmington and Camp David, President Joe Biden released a statement Saturday afternoon about the swift Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. The terrorist organization has killed countless civilians, executed surrendering troops and Americans are in harms way.

Over the past several days I have been in close contact with my national security team to give them direction on how to protect our interests and values as we end our military mission in Afghanistan.

First, based on the recommendations of our diplomatic, military, and intelligence teams, I have authorized the deployment of approximately 5,000 US troops to make sure we can have an orderly and safe drawdown of US personnel and other allied personnel and an orderly and safe evacuation of Afghans who helped our troops during our mission and those at special risk from the Taliban advance.

Second, I have ordered our armed forces and our intelligence community to ensure that we will maintain the capability and the vigilance to address future terrorist threats from Afghanistan.

Third, I have directed the Secretary of State to support President Ghani and other Afghan leaders as they seek to prevent further bloodshed and pursue a political settlement. Secretary Blinken will also engage with key regional stakeholders.

The additional troops, increased from the 3000 announced Thursday to 5000, are being deployed after the Taliban took over 16 provinces in less than a week despite the Afghanistan military having an air force, 20 years of training and billions of dollars in U.S. military equipment. Along the way, the Taliban has taken over U.S. military equipment, including humvees, and is using it to continue their siege. Americans working at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul are preparing for emergency evacuation by U.S. Marines and have been ordered to destroy sensitive and classified material.

“We have conveyed to the Taliban representatives in Doha, via our Combatant Commander, that any action on their part on the ground in Afghanistan, that puts US personnel or our mission at risk there, will be met with a swift and strong US military response,” Biden said.

As Biden prepares for an imminent, catastrophic and embarrassing defeat, he’s attempting to blame the Trump administration for his failed exit strategy from the country.

While the Taliban sits just 30 miles outside of Kabul,  U.S. officials have begged for the embassy to be spared. Many analysts believe it will be burned down on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Oakland Chinatown Leader Demands Gov. Newsom Declare State Of Emergency; Residents Living In ‘State Of Fear

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce President Carl Chan asked Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday to deploy California Highway Patrol officers to the city’s troubled streets and declare a local state of emergency in an attempt to stem the rapidly rising tide of brazen robberies and violent assaults.

“President Biden will be at Camp David until Wednesday, Aug. 18. No public events will be scheduled.”

Last Major City in Northern Afghanistan Falls to Taliban While Joe Biden Vacations at Camp David.

As part of “Biden’s Worst Week as President Yet,” the president left Washington, D.C. on Thursday for Delaware, and then headed to Camp David. The situation appears to be going far from safe, though. People are desperate to get out of there.  According to live updates from The New York Times, Mazar-i-Sharif fell to the Taliban on Saturday night.

From the update:

KABUL, Afghanistan — The last major city in northern Afghanistan fell to the Taliban on Saturday night, marking the complete loss of the country’s north to the Taliban as the insurgents appear on the verge of a full military takeover.

The collapse of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh Province and one of the last three major cities that had remained under government control, comes just a day after two key cities in southern and western Afghanistan were lost to the Taliban.

The Taliban seized the last northern holdout city barely an hour after breaking through the front lines at the city’s edge. Soon after, government security forces and militias fled — including those led by the infamous warlords Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum and Atta Muhammad Noor — effectively handing control to the insurgents.

“Government forces and popular uprisings all left the city,” said Hashim Ahmadzai, a pro-government militia commander. “The Taliban seized government and military buildings. There was no resistance.”

The insurgents now effectively control the southern, western and northern regions of the country — just about encircling the country’s capital, Kabul, as they press on in their rapid military offensive. The Taliban blitz began in May, but the insurgents have managed to seize more than half of Afghanistan’s provincial capitals in just over a week.

Previous reporting from the AP, before Mazar-i-Sharif fell, noted that “the insurgents now hold half of Afghanistan’s 34 provincial capitals and control more than two-thirds of the country.” While such a report emphasizes Kabul is still held, that doesn’t look to be the narrative for long.

Isn’t something like this supposed to be the other way around, like the NY Times posting infoo from the CDC?

CDC Took Mistaken Data on Delta Variant Transmissibility From a New York Times Infographic.

Another CDC data flub distorts delta variant contagiousness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) claimed the delta variant of COVID-19 is “as transmissible as” chickenpox. It’s not true.

Chickenpox, caused by the varicella-zoster virus, is one of the most contagious diseases we know of. “If one person has it, up to 90% of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected,” states the CDC website.

One person infected with chickenpox will infect an average of 10 people when everyone in a population is vulnerable to catching it. (This transmissibility number—referred to as R0—goes down when people have immunity to the disease.)

“The initial COVID-19 strain had an R0 between two and three,” computational biologist Karthik Gangavarapu told NPR. The delta variant has an R0 between six and seven. For chickenpox, the R0 is nine or 10.

How did the CDC conclude that these were equivalent?

For one, the leaked document underestimated the R0 for chickenpox and overestimated the R0 for the delta variant. “The R0 values for delta were preliminary and calculated from data taken from a rather small sample size,” a federal official told NPR. The value for the chickenpox (and other R0s in the slideshow) came from a graphic from The New York Times, which wasn’t completely accurate.

Apparently, the federal agency charged with disseminating COVID-19 data and setting public health policy is taking its cues from a newspaper infographic. Oh my.

Using more accurate data, the delta variant proves more transmissible than O.G. COVID but less transmissible than the virus behind the chickenpox.

Leaked documents show Baltimore high schoolers perform math, reading at grade school level

Baltimore (WBFF) – An alarming discovery out of Baltimore City Schools. Project Baltimore has obtained student assessment data that North Avenue does not release publicly. That data shows some students who could soon graduate, are performing at an elementary school level, academically.Project Baltimore, over the years, has heard from many parents who say their children are being pushed through Baltimore City Schools without getting the education they need. Julie Gaskins told us back in 2018 that her seventh grader was doing math and reading at a second-grade level.Project Baltimore also spoke with Gregory Gray, a Baltimore City Schools father, back in 2019.

“My son is really in desperate need of tutoring in math,” Gray told Project Baltimore. “And, how did my son pass if he didn’t know none of this math?”

Now, Project Baltimore has obtained student assessment scores from just one class, in one high school, that show how widespread the problem appears to be.

iReady is a system schools use to measure at which grade level a student is performing. In Baltimore City Schools, iReady assessments are given in math and reading, three times a year, to measure a student’s progress. The scores we obtained show some students are performing 10 grade levels below their age.

Fox45 News is not disclosing the school or the class to protect student identities. But we can report the iReady scores are for 11th graders in math and reading. Nine students completed the reading assessment, but only two scored at a high school level. One scored at a seventh-grade level. The other six scored at an elementary school level. In math, seven students completed the assessment. Two scored at a high school level. The rest, who are high school juniors in Baltimore City Schools, scored at an elementary level, including one student doing math at a first-grade level.

Jen Psaki Confirms That Democrats Don’t Understand Terrorism or What Classifies as a Terrorist

The religious extremist terrorist group known as the Taliban has captured nearly 60 percent of Afghanistan due to the withdrawal of U.S. forces, but the Democrats only seem to have one concern about that, and that’s how the Taliban want to be seen by the rest of the world.

During a White House press conference, Press Secretary Jen Psaki began speaking about the advancements being made by the Taliban in Afghanistan and dropped this gem.

“The Taliban also has to make an assessment about what they want their role to be in the international community,” she said.

Here’s a fun fact: They already did settle on how they want to be looked at by the international community, and the choice they settled on was “terrorist.” This was done decades and decades ago as they’ve openly subjugated women, killed political dissidents, slaughtered homosexuals, and killed innocents by the thousands on thousands.

This is the group that conducted over a dozen massacre campaigns in which women were raped and citizens were cruelly tortured. They’re big into sex trafficking and will do violence against anyone who isn’t them, including aid workers.

They’re bigoted, racist, sexist, religious extremists, and they really don’t care what the international community thinks about them. If they had things their way, they would slaughter the international community and enslave anyone they didn’t kill. Terrorists are terrorists. End of story.

Yet Psaki and the Democrats have never had the will to call evil out for what it was unless it served some sort of political purpose for them. Right now, speaking to ill of anyone with a certain melanin level in the middle east is only going to anger voters in their party. They’re more than happy to pretend that the Taliban, currently conducting a blitzkrieg across Afghanistan, are willing participants of peaceful relations with other countries.

They aren’t. These people are evil. Full stop.

What’s worrisome is the fact that Psaki would say such a thing about these terrorists. Is the Democrat party willing to engage in some sort of negotiations with them? Are the Democrats actually willing to look at them as a legitimate governmental body? I thought we didn’t negotiate with terrorists.

Why would the Democrats be willing to do such a thing?

The Democrats are clueless or so blinded by their ideological conditioning that they actually see these terrorists as good people because they’re not blond-haired, blue-eyed, white boys from Kansas. They seem legitimately willing to consider them something they’re not; reasonable.

You daily example of “Crap For Brains”

This is what they think they deserve, goobermint control and largesse at the taxpayer’s expense. The goobermint has no ‘duty’ past the 1st amendment guarantee that; “Congress shall make no law….. abridging the freedom of …..the press…..”

Martha Minow, a professor and former dean of Harvard Law School, is the author of “Saving the News: Why the Constitution Calls for Government Action to Preserve Freedom of Speech.” Newton Minow served as chair of the Federal Communications Commission under President Kennedy.

“Minow outlines an array of reforms, including a new fairness doctrine, regulating digital platforms as public utilities, using antitrust authority to regulate the media, policing fraud, and more robust funding of public media.”

Why government has a constitutional duty to save the news industry

Only one private institution is mentioned in the Constitution: the press. Our nation’s founders recognized that a press free to criticize those in power and spread information across society is essential in democracy. But what does that mean today when we see newspapers disappearing every month? Is our government failing to meet its duty to protect and strengthen the press?

The 1st Amendment assumes the existence and durability of a private news industry. This suggests the Constitution not only allows but requires the government to take steps to keep the press viable. And in fact, the government has done this since the beginning of the republic.

The current press landscape demands new action. Journalism jobs over the past two decades have declined by 60%. As newspapers close and local broadcasting and cable news reduce investment in reporting, digital platforms have diverted ad revenues and enabled the spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation. Especially notable is the loss of reporting in smaller towns, suburbs and rural areas, leaving thousands of American communities with no local coverage. This decline may even be tied to fewer candidates for office in local elections.

The idea of government intervention in the news media is not new. Throughout our nation’s history, the federal government has directly and indirectly contributed to the cultivation and growth of the news industry.

I’m not the first to think that a lot of SloJoe’s ‘gaffes’ during speeches are actually his staff making purposeful mistakes in his TelePrompTer feed.
Why is a good question with a multitude of possible answers.

BIDEN’S MATH SKILLS DISPLAYED
We could make Joe Biden’s latest gaffe a daily feature, although to be fair, what is most alarming is not so much Biden’s constant factual errors as the demeanor and frailness that suggest he is ready for a nursing home. In today’s blunder, Biden says (twice) that over 350 million Americans have been vaccinated against covid:

What makes this appalling, given that Biden is alleged to be the President of the United States, is that there are nowhere near 350 million Americans. It isn’t just that Biden can’t read his note card properly. Does he really not know how many people live in the country he purports to govern?

Apparently not. Biden’s lack of mental capacity is frightening, and we can only hope that he gets through his term without facing a crisis of any sort.

White House, state AGs seek ways to hold manufacturers, dealers responsible for gun crimes

WASHINGTON — White House officials met Thursday with attorneys general from seven states and the District of Columbia to discuss steps they can take to “hold accountable” gun manufacturers and dealers whose firearms wind up in shootings.

The virtual meeting, which lasted an hour, reflected a push by President Joe Biden to enlist states in his strategy to combat soaring gun violence as the Justice Department ramps up efforts at the federal level. Gun-related deaths are up 14% this year over 2020, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a research nonprofit.

A key part of the discussion was expected to center on the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which gives gun manufacturers and dealers blanket immunity for being liable when their products are used to commit crimes. Biden has pushed for Congress to repeal the law, but that’s unlikely in the Senate, where it would need 60 votes……..

Attorneys general who took part are Karl Racine of the District of Columbia, Letitia James of New York, Andrew Bruck of New Jersey, Rob Bonta of California, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Bob Ferguson of Washington, Maura Healey of Massachusetts and William Tong of Connecticut. All are Democrats.

A Reporter Shoots an AR-15 and Absolute Hilarity Ensues

If there’s one thing Democrats have taught us about AR-15s, it’s that they are the most powerful, deadly weapons of war ever created, assembled by the devil himself. Of course, anyone that knows anything about the platform and the round it shoots knows that’s nonsense, but still, when someone of a leftward persuasion shoots one, hilarity often ensues.

That’s what was on tap when Kevin McCallum, writing for Seven Days in Vermont, decided to share his experience shooting an AR-15 at an indoor gun range. To hear him tell it, he basically had an out-of-body experience due to the massive, bone-rattling recoil.

Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this is satire, but all indications are that it’s real, and it’s spectacular.

I’d hate to see this guy shoot my .308, which itself is not a very hard kicking gun. Still, if he did, it might break him in half. I also own an AR-15, and I can personally vouch for the recoil being non-existent. It’s just a 55 grain .22 caliber bullet, after all. My wife, who is not even 110 pounds, laughed after the first time she shot it. At no point did she describe it as deep shockwaves coursing through her body after a meteor landed in front of her. She certainly wasn’t “rattled” by the explosion.

Well, maybe they ought to careful about that. And ‘hoping’ for a backlash? What does the author think would happen? Any major form of crackdown and there’s quite a few that have made it plain that things can go kinetic.

BLUF:
Paul’s letter to the Ephesians was written at a time when fathers were kings of their homes and wielded total, unquestionable authority. It’s Paul’s biblical warning to fathers not to behave as tyrants lest they produce restless or rebellious children who ultimately resent them.

That same warning should be heeded by public officials who forget we’re a republic and “consent of the governed” is still the order of things.  Ignoring that fact will produce a “restless and rebellious” electorate, too.

And that’s just what the provocateurs in charge are hoping.

They’re Provoking Us, You Know

If you grew up with siblings, you know what it’s like to feel provoked.  If you watch sports you’ll often see visiting players show-boat to provoke the home team and their fans after they make a great play.  Provocation is such a powerful psychological tool the Bible expressly forbids it when bringing up children. Ephesians 6:4 says “Fathers do not provoke your children to anger…”

We’re living in a time of great provocation directed at the American people from those in elected office.  Virtually all levels of government are barely hiding the disdain and contempt they have for the people they’re supposed to serve.

The pandemic has given county commissioners, school boards, health directors, mayors, governors and federal officials an emperor complex, lording over our daily lives deciding which privilege they will or won’t allow based on their whims.

They justify it by calling it science.  It’s not.  It’s provocation and it’s working for the left on many fronts in very effective ways.

Take for example the foiled plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Whitmer last year.  Originally reported as a group of pro-Trump insurrectionists bent on punishing Whitmer for her aggressive lockdowns of 2020, only a year later do we learn the truth.  The men involved may well have agreed with the plot, but were set up and goaded into it by embedded federal informants.

Left-leaning BuzzFeed reported, “Working in secret, they (FBI informants) did more than just passively observe and report on the actions of the suspects. Instead, they had a hand in nearly every aspect of the alleged plot, starting with its inception. The extent of their involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.”

Similarly, the events at the US Capitol on January 6th have led many eyewitnesses, journalists, and at least one United States senator to ask who was involved in that day and what planning went into it.  Given what BuzzFeed reported on the Whitmer plot, is it difficult to imagine the same for January 6th?

As Revolver News summarized, “If it turns out the federal government did in fact have undercover agents or confidential informants embedded within the so-called militia groups indicted for conspiring to obstruct the Senate certification on 1/6, the implications would be nothing short of seismic. Especially if such agents or informants enjoyed extremely senior-level positions within such groups.”

These events are still sold by media and Democrats as organic uprisings of unhinged opposition posing a constant, present danger to our very republic.  They have been used throughout the last eight months of Biden’s presidency to paint any opposition to any authority, order, or edict as potential “insurrection” and wing-nuttery.

Any questions raised about the election, the virus, the lockdowns, the vaccine, the border and the insinuation is, “What are you, one of THOSE people?”

They’re provoking you.

The first shooting was justified. When the driver came back to finish the robber off, he was stupid, and it’s going to cost him. Even if he manages to find that one sympathetic juror for the first and maybe third mistrial, he’s going to pay through the nose for it.
Oh, and another lesson for all concerned.
This reinforces that anywhere you are, consider that you are on camera.

Why Biden’s New Eviction Moratorium Should Worry Gun Owners

For weeks now, Joe Biden has been saying that any extension to the moratorium on evictions originally put in place by the Centers for Disease Control was going to have to come from Congress. Heck, the Supreme Court told the Biden administration that was the case. And for weeks, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer ignored the impending demise of the eviction moratorium, choosing to focus instead on infrastructure and trying to vilify the GOP for their refusal to go along with a sweeping elections bill that’s stuck in the Senate.

That lack of urgency on the part of congressional Democrats led to the moratorium expiring, which in turn led to Joe Biden deciding on Tuesday to go ahead with allowing the CDC to issue a new, slightly different moratorium despite having been told that it’s unconstitutional. As Charles Cook writes at National Review:

President Biden knows that the CDC’s eviction moratorium is illegal, having, per Gene Sperling, “not only kicked the tires,” but “double, triple, quadruple checked.” He also knows that the Supreme Court has ruled that it is illegal, and that the majority of the legal scholars he has consulted think that the Court is correct.

And yet, because a bunch of progressives have spent the day complaining, Biden announced just now that he intends to violate his oath and reissue the order anyway. “The bulk of the constitutional scholars,” Biden admitted at his press conference just now, “say it’s not likely to pass constitutional muster.” Then he said that he was prepared to try his luck anyway.

Biden admitted that the Supreme Court is likely going to strike down this order, but it will take some time for the court system to catch up with the executive branch actions. In other words, he’s willing to ignore the Constitution in favor of the possibility of short-term political gain. And if Biden’s willing to do that when it comes to the issue of evictions, why wouldn’t he embrace that same strategy when it comes to our Second Amendment rights?

The administration is already stretching the limits of executive authority with a pair of proposed rules from the ATF that would impose backdoor bans on homemade firearms and AR-style pistols with braces, but Biden’s latest move on evictions is evidence that the White House could try to implement even more of the president’s anti-gun agenda by trying to go around the legislative branch.

This new moratorium isn’t a “law,” but that seems to be a distinction without a difference to many reporters… not to mention the administration itself. I’m no Constitutional scholar, but I do remember my Schoolhouse Rock, and laws start as bills in the legislative branch before becoming law once a president has put pen to paper. There’s no bill involved in this eviction moratorium, and Biden himself has left it up to CDC to impose these new restrictions on landlords, complete with criminal penalties.

Now imagine a scenario a few months into the future, when ATF Director David Chipman decides that, thanks to the ATF’s newly expanded definitions of “frame”, “receiver”, and “readily convertible,” the agency has the power to declare that modern sporting rifles are readily converted to fully-automatic machine guns and should therefore be regulated under the National Firearms Act.

If that sounds crazy, keep in mind that gun control groups are already laying the groundwork for that power grab with several recent lawsuits filed in California.

Brady alleges that Smith & Wesson “knowingly violated” federal law regarding sales of machine guns to the general public, even though the gun that was used by the attacker was a semi-automatic firearm. Brady’s making the claim that Smith & Wesson knowingly manufactured a gun that could be “readily converted” to fully-automatic fire in violation of the National Firearms Act (the gun used in the Poway shooting wasn’t modified to shoot full-auto, but that’s of no importance to Brady’s argument).

We also know that Chipman himself has said that AR-15s should be treated like machine guns, and Biden’s own gun ban plan calls for AR-15s to be turned in or registered under the NFA. There’s no chance that Biden’s ban is going to pass through the Senate (at least with the filibuster in place), but as long as the administration is willing to play fast and loose with the Constitution they could try to impose that ban through the executive branch’s rule-making authority.

I’d like to believe that if the administration was bold enough to try this scheme, the courts would quickly shut down their plans, but there’s no guarantee of that happening. And now that Biden himself has demonstrated that pandering to the Democratic base is more important than safeguarding the Constitution, I’d say the odds of his administration trying at some point to put his gun ban into effect without a vote in Congress just went up considerably.

Well, the people that voted for the proggie politicians who came up with this law are the expatriates from states that were turned into cesspools by the proggie politicians they voted for there.

It Just Got Harder for Law-Abiding Citizens to Buy a Gun in Colorado

“There is no doubt in my mind that millions of lives could have been saved if the people were not ‘brainwashed’ about gun ownership and had been well armed. … Gun haters always want to forget the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, which is a perfect example of how a ragtag, half-starved group of Jews took 10 handguns and made asses out of the Nazis.” — Theodore Haas, Dachau survivor.

When tragedy strikes, it’s human nature to look for ways to prevent the same thing from happening in the future. For example, the March 2021 shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder, prompted lawmakers to introduce and pass three new gun laws in Colorado.

Indeed, one of those laws, HB21-1298 “Expand Firearm Transfer Background Check Requirements,” went into effect on June 29, and is specifically designed to “address the epidemic of gun violence we have seen in Colorado,” said bill sponsor Sen. Julie Gonzales, D-Denver.
