Orwell did indeed call it, with one glaring difference from the way things turned out (so far). He had no way of foreseeing the sexual revolution of the 60’s following the introduction of “the pill”. He foresaw sexual prudishness as ruling society when we ended up with sexual promiscuity and perversion. Other than that, we’ve got “the ministry of truth”, wide spread – virtually omnipresent – spying on regular citizens and the pressure to conform to the politically correct way of thinking and acting. And though he doesn’t mention much about the Church, we also have broad participation by “the Church” in conforming to the social mores of the day instead of preaching the truth of the Gospel that does indeed make us free when we bow our knees before the Christ.
It’s as if Christians have never heard Romans 12:1-2.
