The Biden Administration Announces an End to Its Legislative Agenda
Effectively, the Biden Administration is signaling to all parties involved that it no longer has any interest in attempting to get legislation through Congress. Instead, it will simply fight through the use of executive actions that are almost certainly going to be challenged in the courts and fail.
They cannot get even the most basic parts of their agenda through Congress. Biden himself is so underwater in the polling and in the eyes of his peers that he has no political clout to speak of. His policies are being stopped by Joe Manchin, a member of his own party, who is more concerned with his voters and his re-election chances than he is pushing the party’s agenda.
And that, by the way, is a clear sign that the Democratic Party, not the Republican Party, is falling apart at the seams. When your party is in power, you have some leeway to push the party agenda even if your voters don’t like it. But if you can’t even get a single piece of your legislative agenda through Congress because of a member of your own party, you’re in serious trouble.
So, Biden will instead launch a lawsuit against Texas that has as little standing as the lawsuit the Supreme Court just dismissed. They will enact unconstitutional mandates on public and private employees. They will demand that schools follow unscientific guidelines. All because his numbers are in the toilet and they really have no other ideas.
Under normal circumstances, it is far too early to even consider your administration’s legislative agenda effectively done. Especially when you still have control over two branches of government. But this administration is so inept, they can’t get any part of the party platform across the finish line.
This is part of the reason that Joe Biden won’t be making a live public speech on Saturday. His numbers are in the tank and his public appearances only make it worse. Because he cannot get anything done at this point, and because his handling of COVID and Afghanistan is so abysmal, his handlers won’t risk him being out in public on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. He is prone to gaffes and mental stumbles. They are terrified of what he might actually say.
So, his term is pretty much over now. Not even a year in, and they are effectively calling it quits. Sure, they’re probably going to fight some battles in the courts just so they can rant and rave about the corrupt, activist judicial system and tease the possibility of packing the courts, but they really don’t have much left in the tank.
Biden will go back to being as invisible a President as he was a candidate.
