Boy told EMS he was shot in Harvey while breaking into vehicles, JPSO says
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators are trying to identify a juvenile who said he was shot while breaking into vehicles in Harvey early Friday morning.
The shooting victim, whose age was not available, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Brandon Veal, spokesperson for the department.
The sheriff’s office received a call reporting the shooting about 2:30 a.m. from the 1100 block of Aberdeen Drive, Veal said. Deputies dispatched to the area found the juvenile lying wounded on the ground in front of a residence.
The boy was not cooperative, and deputies could not get any information from him, according to Veal.
“While being transported to the hospital, the victim reported to EMS that he was shot while breaking into vehicles,” Veal said.
Video from a doorbell camera that was posted on Instagram appears to show a boy knocking on a home’s front door and asking for help after being shot. In the video, the boy is seen crying and asking for help as he calls out for his mother and grandmother.
No other details were immediately available.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who was the victim of a vehicle burglary in and around the Aberdeen Drive area early Friday to report it to the department.
