FEARING FOR HIS FAMILY’S LIFE, OHIO CO. HOMEOWNER SHOOTS PROWLER MULTIPLE TIMES

If what I had was a .22, I would too!

Believing his family was in mortal danger, an Ohio County homeowner has shot a prowler multiple times.

Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty said that Thursday night at approximately 9:50, his office responded to a report of a prowler at the residence at 318 Hwy 85, in Centertown. With deputies en route and while on the phone with Ohio County Dispatch, the caller advised that her husband had shot the prowler, according to Beatty.

Upon police arriving at the scene, deputies found the prowler, Adam Hardin, of Livermore, on the ground next to the front porch suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  The homeowner, Mark Stewart, told deputies that he confronted Hardin near the back of the residence.

After a “verbal confrontation,” Stewart retreated toward the front door of his home with Hardin following, Beatty said. Stewart continued to advise Hardin to stop or he would shoot, with Stewart telling deputies that he believed his family’s lives were in danger.

Beatty said that when Stewart got to his front door, Hardin continued up the steps and onto the porch, where Stewart shot Hardin four times with a .22 caliber handgun.

Hardin was transported to Ohio County Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Beatty said. Hardin is believed to have been under the influence at the time of the shooting.

“It’s shocking, and the neighborhood needs to step up,” said nearby neighbor BruceSchilke.

At some point, the homeowner fired at least one round at the suspect, striking the burglar.

A neighbor across the street defends the victim’s actions.

The injured suspect left the scene but was located near 14th Street and Fremont near a convenience store.

A clerk at the store showed News 3 video from around the time the burglary happened of a customer they say came in with a bullet wound.

You can see him in the footage walking in with a black hoodie.

“He went and got a beer and came up to me and said I need a beer,” the clerk said.

That’s when the clerk said she noticed the bullet wound.

“The girl was behind him and calling for an ambulance for him, and she told me that he was the one who got shot, and I could see a hole,” she said.

Once the man went outside, the clerk says she saw him with police.

“He was right out front and they put his hands behind his back and had him on the ground,” she said.

Home invasion suspect, posing as sheriff’s deputy, shot, killed by homeowner near Lindsay

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A frightening situation for a Tulare County family started when they heard banging on their front door at around ten Tuesday night.

“They can hear them yelling ‘Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Office,’ says Tulare County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Torres. “The victims thought it was odd that it was late hours, so the suspects then forced their way into the living room area, they busted the front door.”

At this point, Torres says the homeowner knew for sure that the people at the door were not sheriff’s deputies, as they weren’t wearing law enforcement uniforms.

That’s when Torres says the homeowner and suspects started shooting at each other.

One suspect was hit in the upper body and died at the scene. The other suspects got away.

The homeowner’s wife, child, and another man were inside the house at the time. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.

“Although we are in the early stages, it was a home invasion that went terribly wrong,” Torres said. “There were four people in the residence, along with a 13-year-old that could have all been killed if it wasn’t for the homeowner taking action.”

Torres says everything unfolded in just a few minutes, and it left the family shaken up.

Detectives say they are not ready to release a motive for the home invasion.

An autopsy for the suspect who died has been scheduled for Thursday.

Sheriff’s officials say his name and cause of death will be released once it’s complete.

One teen shot by neighbors, another crashes into tree during police chase after alleged crime spree

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – One teen was shot and another crashed into a tree while running from police following a string of attempted armed robberies and burglaries Tuesday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The series of events began around 4:35 a.m. on Otter Creek Drive when a man spotted two people breaking into his wife’s vehicle. The man confronted the would-be thieves who then pulled out a gun and began to drive away in a white Toyota Camry. But before leaving, police say, the duo circled back around and fired multiple shots at the man.

The victim was not struck, but his vehicle was.

Less than a half hour later, around 4:50 p.m., police say the duo – still driving the Camry – pulled up behind another car on Clems Branch Drive. One of the teens then got out of the Camry, put on a mask and pointed a gun at the driver of the second vehicle. That driver was armed, however, and fired at the masked teen who then ran from the scene.

Just a few minutes after that, around 4:56 a.m., police spotted a stolen white Camry that matched the description of the one used in the two recent crimes. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued before the teen driving the Camry struck a tree on Bevington Place.

Police say the driver, a teenager and a convicted felon, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Some time later, at 6:30 a.m., police were still trying to find the second suspect whey they got a call about a shooting on Myers Mill Lane in Ballantyne. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old who had been shot being held down by good Samaritans.

Man shoots teen in stolen car, drives him to the hospital

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department say a 15-year-old was shot in Nashville after a man found him in his girlfriend’s stolen car.

The ordeal unfolded around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Rainwood Drive near Madison. Authorities said a 27-year-old man and his girlfriend tracked the car to the address after it was stolen last week.

Police said there were two people in the vehicle, both of whom appeared to be teens. The man used his car to box in the other to keep the driver from leaving.

The teen driver tried to drive away and hit the shooter’s car and another vehicle. The man shot at the car several times, hitting the teen in the arm. The other suspect ran and hasn’t been found.

The man drove the teen to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury. Police said the shooter’s vehicle, the shooter, and the juvenile were all detained at the hospital for further investigation.

“I heard four or five gun shots and they were loud and they echoed in the house,” neighbor Jacori Leffler recalled. “It sounded like you were in downtown on Fourth of July watching the fireworks.”

Neighbors said the actions of the shooter went too far, and believed he should’ve called police instead.

No. When the car thief used the stolen car as a weapon, that was who went ‘too far’.

The name of the shooter has not been released.

Lyft driver uses firearm in self defense after Cape Coral man pulls knife

When a Cape Coral man pulled a knife on a rideshare driver on Tuesday morning, the victim retrieved his firearm in self-defense and forced the suspect out of the car, authorities said.

The suspect, Adam John Mormon, 28, now faces a charge of Aggravate Assault.

While the Lyft driver was driving around 1:10 a.m., the passenger retrieved a small, black knife and began dictating where to drive. According to the Cape Coral Police Dept. arrest report, at the intersection of Chiquita Blvd and El Dorado Pkwy, Mormon banged the dashboard with the knife while waving it in a “threatening manner.”

The driver told Mormon to exit the vehicle because he was in fear for his life. When Mormon did not listen, the victim pulled out a firearm and told Mormon once again to exit the vehicle. The arrest report states that Mormon complied and the victim left the scene.

It is against Lyft’s policy to have any kind of weapon, with the consequences of being banned from the company. People living nearby do not want to see the driver face any kind of consequences from the company.

“You have to look at the situation,” said Joanne and Bob Syversen, “before you clamp down on exactly what the rule says or what the law says.”

Police detained Mormon, who was found with a black pocket knife in his jeans. The victim later identified the detained suspect for officers with a request to press charges. Right now, Mormon is at Lee County Jail with a trial date on Feb. 10.

WINK News reached out to Lyft to see if the driver will face punishment for brandishing a gun to protect his life. So far, the rideshare company has not responded.

Victims thank good Samaritan who helped save their lives by opening fire at the man chasing them

A big “thank you” to a good Samaritan who helped save the lives of four people.

Police say a man chased four people after he yelled at them at Rusty’s Bar Thursday night.

The fight ended with a car crash and that good Samaritan opened fire.

Investigators say 53-year-old Henry Lesinak, Jr. started it all and now faces several charges.

We spoke with two of those people who ran for help: a mom and daughter on vacation, only in Cape Coral for one night.

They’re calling the man who saved them a hero.

Mom and daughter Ashley and Emily Gallagher say they’re grateful to be alive. All thanks to one Cape Coral man’s quick thinking.

“He’s an amazing person and he saved our lives and he’s a hero, he really is,” Ashley said.

A hero for saving them and two others from Lesniak who, they say, bought their group some drinks at Rusty’s downtown Thursday night.

“I think he was trying to hit on my daughter-in-law and definitely get her to go home with him, or whatever it was. And I think when he realized that wasn’t going to happen, that’s when he said we were taking advantage of him by spending his money,” Ashley said.

“All of a sudden, like, ‘boom,’ he turned violent, angry,” Emily said.

The group tried to leave and get in their car and that’s when, investigators say, Lesniak chased after them.

“That’s when we saw the white pickup truck and honestly, like, he had no choice but to say, like, yes. We kind of just screamed, ‘help,’ begging him to let us into his truck,” Emily said.

Behind the wheel of that white pickup truck? Amir Rossi.

“It just got heated and it got heated so quick,” Rossi said. “They ran in front of my car, they jumped in my truck and they were just like, ‘Go! Go! Go!” And the next thing I know, this guy’s reaching in my car trying to grab me up and that’s when I got my firearm and at that point, he realized that I had a gun and he backed off the car and he disappeared.”

But the story doesn’t end there. Police say Lesniak then rammed the good Samaritan’s truck several times.

That’s when Rossi pulled out his gun, fired several shots into the back of Lesniak’s truck and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

“I just yelled out, like, ‘God, please help us. Save us. Make sure I go home alive and safe,’” Emily said. “God was with us; he definitely was.”

“I just did what I would want anybody to do for me and my family,” Rossi said. “I appreciate it. I don’t look at it as being a hero, I just look at it as doing what was necessary to be done to protect them.”

Those women will certainly have a story to tell when they go home; a bizarre story. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

The man who chased after the group now faces felony charges. [and a shot-up truck]

Man stops would-be burglar at gunpoint in California home

LODI, Calif. (KTXL) — A would-be burglar was caught by surprise recently after entering a woman’s downtown Northern California apartment.

The woman was not home but her boyfriend was and when he saw a man he didn’t know, he pulled out his gun.

“So, it’s just I think a real important lesson to lock your doors even when you’re home now,” said Colleen Brown, whose Lodi home was broken into.

Surveillance video shows the suspect jumping over Brown’s back fence and crawling up the stairs right by her barking dogs.

“Walked right by them, no fear. Didn’t even stop at the dogs,” Brown said.

Brown said she believes he stayed low so people walking by in the alley wouldn’t see him — but the suspect never expected someone to be inside.

Ed Pawlowski was having a cup of coffee in the kitchen when the man entered the home.

“I heard the door opening, expecting it to be her,” Pawlowski said. “Looked back down at my phone and by the time I looked up this guy had came inside the door and shut it very quietly behind himself. And I asked him what he was doing here.”

Pawlowski described the man as looking shocked and said since he has a concealed carry license, he drew his gun. But he didn’t shoot.

“He put his hands together and prayed not to shoot him. And I said, ‘I’m not going to shoot you, what are you doing in here?’” Pawlowski recalled.
