At eleven o’clock this morning came to an end the cruellest and most terrible War that has ever scourged mankind. I hope we may say that thus, this fateful morning, came to an end all wars.
David Lloyd George, British prime minister

Only to be surpassed by World War 2 in destruction and casualties (and there’s a valid argument that the wars were actually just one big one, with a 21 year long ceasefire to let the sides re-equip & re-man) the ‘War To End All Wars’ didn’t quite live up to its reputed goal, did it?

  1. Politicians and diplomats and etc aren’t as wise and smart as they think they are. Congress down here in Coffee Country just passed a bill “to guarantee peace”. They used that title because “to empower thugs” doesn’t sound as good.
