1775- During the Second Continental Congress, George Washington’s nomination as the Continental Army’s Commander in Chief is unanimously approved, commissioning him Major General.

1775- Less than two months after British forces attempt to confiscate arms of the Massachusetts Militia, resulting in the Battles of Lexington and Concord, beginning the American Revolution, the Second Continental Congress of the United Colonies, meeting in Philadelphia, passes a resolution forming a Regular Continental Army. Delegate John Adams nominates George Washington as Commander in Chief.
