Homeowner shoots armed robber in Warren

WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Warren police say a homeowner turned the tables on an alleged robber and shot the intruder.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the area of Studebaker and Lorraine, not far from 9 Mile and Hoover.

A 22-year-old resident was returning home from a concert when he was approached by another man armed with a handgun. Police say the suspect announced a holdup.

The resident, a CPL holder, pulled out his own pistol and shot the would-be bandit twice, according to Warren police.

The suspect was then taken to St. John Hospital and listed in temp serious condition.

Police confiscated both firearms as their investigation continues.

Homeowner confronted masked intruders, shot and killed one

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – A Danville homeowner confronted men in ski masks who kicked in his door and ended up shooting and killing one, police said.

Police were called to a home invasion in progress with shots fired Sunday around 8:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Franklin St.

When they got there, a 31-year-old Danville man met them and said several people armed with handguns and wearing ski masks kicked in his door and tried to rob him.

During the home invasion, the homeowner armed himself with a handgun and fired multiple shots at the intruders.

Police found one of the suspects lying just inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Jordan Valdez-Parrish of Danville.

Pizza delivery driver fights back, shoots 3 of 4 would-be robbers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a pizza delivery driver shot three of four people who they said ambushed him and tried to rob him overnight outside an east Charlotte apartment complex.

It happened just before midnight at the Hillrock Estates Apartments on Magnolia Hill Drive.

Police said the victim was delivering pizza to the apartment complex when four suspects approached him and aimed what he thought was a rifle at his head.

The victim, who was armed with his own weapon, fired it at the robbers.

Police said the suspects ran off after the shooting and that the victim was able to call 911. Officers were able to quickly catch three of the suspects near a laundromat on Kilborne Drive.

Man stops would-be burglar at gunpoint in California home

LODI, Calif. (KTXL) — A would-be burglar was caught by surprise recently after entering a woman’s downtown Northern California apartment.

The woman was not home but her boyfriend was and when he saw a man he didn’t know, he pulled out his gun.

“So, it’s just I think a real important lesson to lock your doors even when you’re home now,” said Colleen Brown, whose Lodi home was broken into.

Surveillance video shows the suspect jumping over Brown’s back fence and crawling up the stairs right by her barking dogs.

“Walked right by them, no fear. Didn’t even stop at the dogs,” Brown said.

Brown said she believes he stayed low so people walking by in the alley wouldn’t see him — but the suspect never expected someone to be inside.

Ed Pawlowski was having a cup of coffee in the kitchen when the man entered the home.

“I heard the door opening, expecting it to be her,” Pawlowski said. “Looked back down at my phone and by the time I looked up this guy had came inside the door and shut it very quietly behind himself. And I asked him what he was doing here.”

Pawlowski described the man as looking shocked and said since he has a concealed carry license, he drew his gun. But he didn’t shoot.

“He put his hands together and prayed not to shoot him. And I said, ‘I’m not going to shoot you, what are you doing in here?’” Pawlowski recalled.

New Hampshire dad chokes coyote to death after it attacks his son.

Yes, heroic, but – just me – I’d have used a gun.

A Kensington, N.H., man is being hailed as a hero after he strangled a coyote that had attacked his son, only two hours after the same coyote bit a woman, according to New Hampshire police.

“The coyote attacked a young child and the child’s dad went into protection mode and suffocated the coyote until it succumbed,” police wrote. “New Hampshire Fish and Game has the coyote and is taking it to be tested for rabies.”

The man was bitten in the struggle and received rabies’ shots, according to police.

Social media lit up with praise for the heroic father. Brittany Morgridge-Haslett wrote on Facebook, “I feel I need to meet this man! It would be an honor! Go dad!”

It all started around 10 a.m., when Kensington Police blasted out a warning about a coyote attack in town. A 62-year-old woman told police she and her two dogs had been attacked.

“The coyote was on her three-season porch and her two dogs had opened the sliding door and were attacked by the coyote,” police wrote on social media. “The two dogs retreated back into the house and the coyote attempted to get into the house. While the homeowner was fighting to keep the coyote out of the house she was bitten.”

The woman later received the first series of rabies shots at Exeter Hospital. Her two dogs were also treated and received a rabies’ booster shot.

Man armed with a knife shot to death in Ruskin

RUSKIN, Fla. — A man who attacked a woman and someone she called for help with a knife was shot to death, deputies say.

Law enforcement responded just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday to the area of 7th Street SW and Oceanside Circle on a call about a shooting, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies found the man dead with a gunshot wound in the front yard.

It’s believed he attacked a woman with a knife earlier in the evening. She called another male acquaintance for help and at some point, the two men began arguing outside the home, the sheriff’s office says.

The man with a knife stabbed the other before getting shot.

Deputies say the man stabbed was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition. The woman also was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

No charges have been filed, however, an investigation is ongoing.

Knife-wielding woman shot at nightclub

A woman was shot after attacking a nightclub owner with a knife, Fort Lauderdale police said.

It happened about 10 p.m. Friday at 905 N.E. Fifth St., said Detective Tracy Figone.

The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for a single gunshot wound, Ficone said.

It was not immediately known what charges were pending because the investigation was ongoing, she said.

The incident occurred in Flagler Village at the Glitch Bar, an adult arcade — also known as a “bar-cade” — with free pinball machines and video games and themed alcoholic beverages.

“The Glitch Bar experience can be defined as part local watering hole, part vintage arcade and part late night party,” according to its website.

The Glitch Bar’s co-owners are identified as Dwight Slamp and Chris Guevara but police did not say who was involved in the shooting or who the woman was.

Homeowner shoots intruder who entered through window

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A homeowner shot a man who climbed into his house through a window, according to Jackson Police Department.

An investigation is underway after a man was shot on Daniel Circle in Jackson.

Officers said the man was shot around 9:30 Thursday morning at a home on Daniel Circle.

Police later identified the man who was shot as 28-year-old Gary Walker.

He suffered a non-life-threatening wound to the arm.

Walker is charged with burglary. The homeowner does not face any charges.

Neighbor thwarts break-in, detains suspect at gunpoint

PELHAM, N.H. (AP) – A man who broke into a New Hampshire home was caught at gunpoint by the homeowner’s neighbor, police said.

Andrew Billcliff, 31, of Plaistow, was arrested and charged with burglary and breach of bail Wednesday after his attempted break-in was thwarted by a neighbor.

The homeowner said that when she arrived home Wednesday afternoon she saw a car that was not familiar parked in her driveway with the engine running. She then went to her neighbor’s house and stayed there while he checked on her home.

Upon entering the house, the neighbor encountered an intruder in the house and proceeded to show his firearm. He then helped detain him at gunpoint in the driveway until officials arrived.

“He held the burglar at bay until we could arrive,” said Pelham Police Sgt. Matt Keenliside. “So he didn’t do anything wrong there, he’s OK.”

The suspected thief tried to take some family heirlooms and the kids’ piggy-banks.

Resident shoots intruder at Courtyards at Buckley apartment in Aurora

AURORA, Colo. — Police say a Courtyards at Buckley resident shot and wounded a man who intruded into their apartment early Saturday morning.

Police said in a release Saturday afternoon that they “do not believe there is a threat to the general public from this incident.”

Officers responded to 2155 South Rifle Way about 2:34 a.m. and found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an Aurora Police Department press release. Responders transported the man to an area hospital, where on Saturday afternoon he remained in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police said intruders entered a man’s apartment. After a struggle, the man shot and wounded one of the intruders, according to a police spokesperson.

Investigators are working to determine whether there’s a connection between the man and the intruders.

The shooting happened at the same complex where a teenager is accused of wounding five people in a shooting last weekend.

Man suffers life-threatening injuries in home invasion in Nelson County

A Nelson County man attempting to force himself into a residence is being treated for life-threatening injuries after shots were fired inside the home.

Virginia State Police are investigating the incident reported Thursday in the 500 block of Hunting Lodge Road in Wingina.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 8:30 p.m. Thursday about a shooting inside the residence. A Nelson County adult male had forced himself into the residence.

A struggle ensued with two individuals inside the residence, and shots were fired.

The Nelson County man was flown to UVA Medical Center where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

A firearm was recovered from inside the residence. There were three adults and five juveniles inside the residence at the time. None of them was injured during the incident.

The shooting remains under investigation at this time, with the assistance of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office. No charges have been placed.

Armed cashier at Lima business halts attempted armed robbery

LIMA — An armed cashier at Lima business thwarted an armed robbery attempt Tuesday night.

According to a statement released Wednesday by the Lima Police Department, two males entered Hermies Party Shop on St. Johns Road shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday with pistols drawn. They demanded the cashier give them money from the cash register.

Both males were dressed in black Nike sweatsuits and had their faces covered, although one male ran up the aisle toward the cashier and lifted the white handkerchief covering his face. As he approached, he saw that the cashier was armed. The two men then exited the building running northbound. Nothing was taken during the attempted robbery.

Man who kicked in door was fatally shot

A Fannett Texas man with a history of family violence arrests was fatally shot Monday night after allegedly kicking in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s LaBelle home, where he was met by an armed resident.

Buck Aubey, 46, was found with a gunshot wound at the house in the 11000 block of Kenner Road when law enforcement arrived around 8:22 p.m., according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Aubey was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died two hours later.

Initial investigation indicates that he forced his way into the residence and a disturbance ensued before he was shot. Police declined to say whether or not he had a firearm, but did say several other people were in the home at the time of the incident and are all cooperating with the investigation.

Robbery victim shoots assailant outside Fayetteville Burger King

A man attempting a robbery outside a Burger King on Monday morning was shot when the victim pulled a handgun and fired several shots at him, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The shooting was reported about 9:45 a.m. at the restaurant in the 2800 block of Bragg Boulevard.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the restaurant. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said in a news release.

The identities of those involved were not released.

Homeowners engage in shootout with robbery suspect

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem Police are investigating after a shooting between a homeowner and a robbery suspect.

Officers responded to the call on Sagewood Lane just after noon Monday.

Police said after arriving, officers discovered that homeowners on Sagewood Lane had been notified their home was been broken into.

Officers say the homeowners discovered the suspect in their house, and that’s when the shooting occurred. However, the suspect got away.

Police say a nearby home was hit during the shooting, but no one was injured.

22-year-old turns the tables on would-be carjacker, fights back

ST. LOUIS – A would-be carjacker fled for his life after his intended target retrieved a gun and fired shots at him.

According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident took place around 5:50 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Dickson Street, located in the Columbus Square neighborhood.

The intended victim, a 22-year-old, told police he had just parked his car and got out of the vehicle when a red pickup truck pulled up beside him. An older man got out of the truck, pointed a gun at the victim, and demanded the keys to the victim’s car.

The victim handed over his car keys but the suspect tried shooting him anyway. Fortunately, the suspect’s gun malfunctioned. The victim was able to grab his own firearm and fired several shots at the carjacker.

The suspect ran off on foot and the pickup truck followed after him.

The victim told police he didn’t think the suspect was wounded.

Police: Man Breaks into Kokomo Apartment, Gets Shot By Person Living There

KOKOMO, Ind.–He was shot shortly after breaking into someone’s apartment. That’s what police are saying happened to a man in Kokomo at about 10 Sunday night.

The Kokomo Police Department says Kris Bratton, 49, broke into an apartment at the Turtle Creek Apartment complex on the west side of Kokomo. They say they were called to the scene and realized that Bratton had been shot in the stomach by the person who lives in that apartment.

Bratton was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis. He is in stable condition.

Police are not identifying the person who shot Bratton.

Gun applications in New York Jewish community spike to nearly 1,000% after Hanukkah attack

Applications for gun permits are surging in New York’s Rockland County after five Orthodox Jews were stabbed at a Hanukkah celebration at a local rabbi’s home.

The Rockland County Clerk’s office reported a nearly 1,000% increase in gun permit applications in the week following the Dec. 28 attack. The county clerk received 65 new gun permit applications, according to the New York Post. Before the attack, the office received an average of about six applications a week.

All but five of the new applications originated from the town of Ramapo, where the attack took place. Ramapo contains several heavily Jewish communities.

“A lot of people are worried, especially the large Hasidic and Jewish community in Rockland County,” said Erik Melanson, who owns Precision Gunsmiths in Rockland County. “I have had rabbis come in. Some of the rabbis already have concealed carry [permits].”

East Tulsa resident shoots man who reportedly kicked in back door

An east Tulsa resident shot a man who kicked open his home’s back door early Saturday, police said.

The homeowner, his son and three other people were inside the residence on 71st East Avenue just south of Admiral Place when a man, whom police did not identify Saturday, knocked on the front door and demanded to speak to his fiancee, police reported. The son told the man he had the wrong house.

Police said in a news release that the homeowner’s son has no relationship with the man or his fiancee.

The man peered through vehicle windows at the residence, then went into the backyard and to the backdoor, police said. The homeowner’s son retrieved a gun and “issued several warnings” to the man, but the man kicked open the door and entered the house, according to a news release. The son then fired one shot, striking the man in the abdomen.

Jacksonville police say a burglary suspect was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with a Westside homeowner Saturday night.

Police were en route to a report of a burglary in the 7100 block of Ricker Road when the call was upgraded to a shooting about 9 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said investigation showed the homeowner exchanged gunfire with an intruder — a man who then fled in a white compact pickup truck. A short time later, police found the potential suspect at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

No other information was released by the Sheriff’s Office in the case.

Governor Greg Abbott will present the “Governor’s Medal of Courage” to the brave man who stopped a gunman during a deadly shooting at a church in North Texas last month.

On Monday, January 13th Gov. Abbott will host Mr. Wlson at the Governor’s Mansion to present him with the Governor’s Medal of Courage. The medal is given to civilians who display “great acts of heroism by risking their own safety to save another’s life.”

It is the highest award given to civilians by the Governor and nobody deserves it more than Jack Wilson.

 

Man Fatally Shoots Robbery Suspect in West Dallas

A suspected robber was fatally shot Friday night when he approached a group of people having a cookout in West Dallas and demanded property, police say.

Witnesses told police that they were in their front patio in the 3400 block of Chicago Street shortly before midnight when three people approached the house.

Two of the people were armed with handguns and demanded property. A man who was visiting the residents pulled out a gun and shot one of the suspects, police said.

Man shoots, kills intruder during Bradenton home invasion

BRADENTON, Fla. — A sleeping man woke up to find a stranger pointing a pistol at his head, deputies say.

It happened just after 11 a.m. Friday on 27th Street West in Bradenton.

Investigators say the intruder went into the man’s house, fired the gun next to his head, and began to pistol whip him.

The man fought back.

During a scuffle, deputies say the intruder dropped the pistol — allowing the homeowner to grab it and shoot him.

The homeowner then ran next door for help.

When authorities showed up, they found a pistol and the back door open. But, they say they couldn’t find the intruder who was shot.

With the help of a drone and K-9 unit, they spotted a man, believed to be the intruder, on the ground outside a nearby condo building. He was unresponsive.

They say it looks like he died from a gunshot wound. Now, detectives are trying to piece together exactly what happened and why. 

Killeen homeowner shoots, kills burglar who was breaking into his home

KILLEEN, Texas — A homeowner shot and killed a man who tried to break into his house Friday morning, according to Killeen police.

Police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said James Centron Taylor Mitchell, 18, forced his way into the home on Corinne Dr. a little before 10 a.m.

The homeowner fired multiple gunshots at the man who then ran away.

Police arrived a short time later and found Mitchell with a gunshot wound on Woodlake Dr.

He was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Man sitting in his SUV shoots back at would-be robbers in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man fired shots at two would-be robbers after they confronted him as he was sitting in his SUV.

The call came in before 6 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex on Selena Drive, located not far from Thompson Lane in South Nashville.

According to police, the man was sitting in his Nissan Rogue as it was warming up when two men got in the car. One of them hit him in the head before they ran off in different directions.

Police say one of the suspects fired a shot at the victim as he was running away. The car owner, who was also armed, shot back at him. No one was hit.

Police say the victim has a proper gun permit.

Because the ordeal happened so quickly, the victim couldn’t give police a good suspect description. Both were also wearing masks.

Police say this a safe neighborhood and will up patrols there now.

Man killed while allegedly trying to rob ATM guards in North County ID’d; 2 suspects at large

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – Police have identified the suspect who was killed while allegedly trying to rob two armed guards who were servicing an ATM in North County Tuesday.

According to authorities, two suspects waited in the parking lot of Vantage Credit Union at 601 Greenway Chase Drive near New Halls Ferry for the guards to arrive. A third suspect waited inside a getaway vehicle.

When the guards showed up around 1:40 p.m. and began working on the machine, two suspects wearing ski masks approached them. Both guards fired their guns and at least one of the suspects fired his weapon, according to police.

“I thought [the guards] acted very quickly,” Lt. Matt O’Neill with St. Louis County police said. “That was very quick thinking on his part. He was actually going to give them the money and he started shooting.”

During the shooting, one suspect was shot and later died in the hospital. He was identified by police Wednesday morning as 19-year-old Jordan Pruitt, of St. Louis.

The guards were unharmed. They are reportedly cooperating with the police investigation.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) — The 20-year-old man who was shot and killed while allegedly robbing an ATM technician in North County Tuesday pleaded guilty to a similar crime at a bank just three miles away, according to documents obtained from the St. Louis County Prosecutors Office.

Jordan Pruitt pleaded guilty to robbing an ATM technician at the Vantage Credit Union on West Florissant at New Halls Ferry in December 2017. At the time of Tuesday’s alleged crime, Pruitt was out on bail awaiting sentencing.

In December 2017, police said Pruitt put a knife to the neck of the ATM technician, but was scared away by an armed eye witness.

Intruder shot and killed by resident in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police are investigating after a homeowner shot and killed an intruder overnight.

It happened just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Houseman Avenue NE Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids police say a 51-year-old man showed up to the home to confront a woman inside.

The man pushed his way into the home where an argument ensued. A 38-year-old man inside the home then confronted the intruder and ended up shooting the intruder in the chest, killing him.

Police say it appears the victim is known by the shooter and another woman who lived inside the home.

There are no charges at this time and the investigation is on-going

Pascagoula homeowner shoots, kills armed burglar

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WKRG) — A Pascagoula homeowner fatally shot an armed person who was burglarizing his home.

Pascagoula Police responded to 3202 Nathan Hale Ave at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, the homeowner said he shot an armed person who was burglarizing his home. The suspect was pronounced dead on scene.

Pascagoula Police are currently investigating.

2 dead, 2 wounded in shootout in the East Side neighborhood

Two people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting Sunday in the East Side neighborhood.

About 3:50 p.m., three men, 39, 27 and 20, were standing in the 10000 block of South Avenue M, when an unknown vehicle pulled up and two males jumped out, Chicago police said. Both males pulled out weapons and fired shots at all three men.

The 27-year-old man, who is a valid concealed carry license holder, pulled out his own weapon and returned fire, fatally striking one of the shooters, 17-year-old Michael E. Portis, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Portis, who lived in South Shore, was dead at the scene.

The other male got back into the vehicle and sped off, police said.

Elvis Garcia, 39, was struck in the leg and abdomen and rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. He lived on the city’s Southeast Side.

The 20-year-old man was struck in the right arm and taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was stabilized, police said. The 27-year-old was struck in the left arm and taken to the same hospital, where he is listed in good condition.

Area South detectives are investigating.
