Germantown homicide under investigation after homeowner shoots, kills alleged intruder

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WDVM) — Montgomery County Police are investigating a shooting in Germantown after a homeowner allegedly shot an intruder trying to get into his home Monday evening.

Police say they got a call from the homeowner around 7:30 pm, saying someone was trying to get into his home along Futura Ct in Germantown. The homeowner told police he shot the man trying to get in.

Attention Gun Control Groups: This is What Safety Really Means

When the establishment media talks about “gun safety advocates,” it is typically about some gun control activist group pushing a political point, so when a real gun safety effort could be spotlighted, the press could get an eyeful.

That’s an opportunity looming in Detroit this coming weekend in Detroit, when veteran firearms instructor and Second Amendment activist Rick Ector, founder of Legally Armed in Detroit, hopes to greet a legion of women to a genuine firearms safety and training course.

Ector has been offering this training opportunity for a decade, according to WWMT. In his first effort, 50 women showed up. Last year, more than 1,900 attended, the story noted. Ector confirmed that in a telephone chat Monday afternoon. He accomplished that feat by utilizing two ranges, one hosting some 1,200 people and the other more than 700. This year, he will also run the operation on two ranges simultaneously.

A past speaker and participant in the annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, co-sponsored by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the Second Amendment Foundation, Ector is dedicated to making his city safer by acquainting women with firearms and erasing fears rather than promoting them.

According to his post on Facebook, this year’s participants have a full agenda and his goal is to train 4,000 women this weekend. They will enjoy free gun rentals, free ammunition, free hearing and eye protection and free shooting lessons, but they better sign up fast because space will be limited.

The importance of genuine firearms safety and education cannot be overstated for anyone living in a large city, especially considering the murder rates. Detroit is experiencing a bad year, but so far its body count is only approaching half of that already posted in Chicago to the west about 285 miles.

Over the weekend, according to Fox News, nine people were killed and 52 others injured in shootings across the city. One of the victims was a 7-year-old girl, and her younger sister was wounded in the city’s Belmont Central neighborhood.

According to the popular website “Heyjackass.com,” as of Monday there have been 46 murders in the city so far in August, and another 235 people have been wounded by criminal gunfire. Another homicide was posted but did not involve a firearm. For the year so far, the website says, there have been 486 murders involving guns out of the 512 slayings so far posted.

So far this year, the website said, Chicago has racked up 486 murders, and that would include the slaying of Chicago Police Officer Ella French, killed in the line of duty. Two brothers have been arrested in that murder.

Employee stabs knife-wielding man in act of self-defense inside Philadelphia Wawa

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police say a Wawa employee was acting in self-defense when he stabbed a knife-wielding man.

It happened around 10 p.m. Thursday inside the store located on the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue in the city’s Mount Airy section.

Police say a 41-year-old man walked into the Wawa and became upset he wasn’t being waited on quickly enough. He started yelling at an employee who was unpacking boxes and stacking shelves.

The 41-year-old man was taken to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

Intruder killed by Webster Groves homeowner

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Webster Groves homeowner killed an alleged intruder overnight.

According to police, a homeowner in the 1400 block of Grant confronted a man who entered a rear door of his home just before 3 a.m. The homeowner was armed with a shotgun and reportedly shot the intruder when he did not comply with verbal commands to exit the residence.

“I would have done the same,” neighbor Greg O’Brien said. He woke up to the incident. “That’s the first thing I did when I heard my dogs go crazy, I grabbed my handgun.”

The suspected intruder was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Authorities have not identified him.

The incident is under investigation. Police said they do not believe there is an additional threat to public safety.

O’Brien said this type of crime isn’t common in this neighborhood. “Never, never that I’ve heard of.”

Woman opens fire and kills man, injures two others after smashing into parked car

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) — Police are investigating a shooting that left two people dead and two others in the hospital. It happened outside a home on the 400 block of Hazel Street on the West Side.

It all started just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night when a driver was traveling at high speed and crashed into a parked car – and then for some reason she got out of the car and started firing.

The owner of the vehicle that was hit, a man in his 50’s, and two others came out to see what happened. That’s when the female driver got out of the car and opened fire, hitting all three people.

A neighbor came out to help, and ended up shooting the driver of the car, a woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s. She died at the scene.

“It was a significant crash, like I said, enough for people to come to the aid and check on the driver’s well-being,” explained Officer Corey Schuler.

The man whose car was hit died at the hospital. The two others, a teenage boy and a female in her 50’s, are still in the hospital with critical injuries.

Police are still trying to figure out what caused the driver to open fire. The investigation is ongoing.

The members of “El Machete” are violating Mexico’s extremely strict gun control laws just like the cartels are. And why are they doing it? Because they have a human right of self defense, even if their government wants to make it nearly impossible for them to legally own a gun.

A Mexican Cartel Was Driven Out of Town By Indigenous Vigilantes Called ‘El Machete’

PANTELHO, Mexico – As smoke curled from neighboring buildings that had been ransacked and torched the day before, a couple of thousand Indigenous people armed with makeshift weapons gathered around city hall to hear their leaders speak.

Led by a new self-defense militia called “El Machete,” the people had descended from their mountain villages on the town center the previous day to expel the collaborators of a criminal gang who they say has terrorized their community for years.

As outnumbered state security forces stood by, the attackers raided homes and businesses and tied up 21 suspected gang members.

At least a dozen buildings—their walls spray painted with the rallying cries of “Long live El Machete” and “Narcos out”—were completely razed, scattering debris across town.

“We left the homes of the narcos and assassins the same way they left our family members when they killed them or stole their land,” said a young man masked in a camouflage balaclava speaking from the balcony of city hall.

Basic Practical Riflery For The New Shooter.

A few years ago, I decided I wanted to become a rifleman. A practical rifleman. Through disciplined self practice, and help from the online community, I have been able to ever expand my skills from a 100 yard skill-set to a 600 yard comfort zone. If I can do it, anyone can, but a lot of people don’t think they can make that jump.

I have run into many AR owners who think that if they can’t shoot 1 to 2-inch groups like they see online, they aren’t shooting well. They perceive their rifle equipped with a red dot as being too imprecise to carry them past close-range shooting. They doubt their skills, but they haven’t tried to apply the skills they have.

Because they don’t think they can do it, they don’t shoot at longer ranges. But I’m here to tell you that you can.

Let’s knock that mental wall down and develop a simple shooting program for all the new AR-15 shooters out there. Let’s identify an easy-to-master system that can carry their rifle out to distances they once dismissed.

Today we’re going to create a basic program to get you (or someone you know who needs this) a tool set to reliably drop rounds on a target out to 400 yards. Let’s get started.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Police in Des Moines say a resident shot an armed intruder who broke into an apartment overnight.

Police say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Friday when a man armed with a handgun broke into an apartment along Lincoln Avenue. Police say the intruder assaulted and threatened residents inside the apartment before he was shot by one of the residents.

Police did not release the names of the victims or the accused intruder and have not announced any arrests in the case.

Triangle [Virginia} man shot and killed by Dale City homeowner in self defense tied to string of armed robberies

A 20-year-old Triangle man who was fatally shot last month by a Dale City woman in what police determined was a justified act of self-defense has been connected to five recent armed robberies at area 7-Eleven stores, police said Monday.

The man, identified as Azhar Laurent Smart, 20, of Triangle, was found by police suffering a gunshot wound at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, outside a home in the 4100 block of Hoffman Drive, a residential area off Prince William Parkway near the Sheetz gas station, according to a news release issued at the time.

Smart was shot by a resident of the home who told police he approached her while she was outside walking her dog. Police later determined that Smart was wearing a face mask and was armed with a handgun when he was shot, according to the police news release.

Smart was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wounds, the release said. The Dale City resident who shot Smart was not identified and was not injured, according to police.

On Monday, Aug. 2, police said a subsequent police investigation into the handgun Smart was carrying determined it matched a firearm that was discharged during a July 16 armed robbery at the 7-Eleven on Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge.

During that robbery, the lone suspect fired a round after taking money from the store. No injuries were reported. The shell casing collected at the scene was compared to the weapon recovered at the July 22 homicide and was determined to be a match, 1st Sgt. Jonathan Perok, Prince William County police spokesman, said in an Aug. 2 news release.

Detectives have been investigating the July 16 robbery in connection to four other robberies that occurred at 7-Eleven stores in Woodbridge and Dumfries since late June involving a suspect with the same description, clothing and behaviors observed in all five incidents, Perok said in the Aug. 2 release.

The other robberies occurred at 7-Eleven stores on Fraley Boulevard in Dumfries on July 5, where a shot was also fired, and locations on Cloverdale Road on July 3, Darbydale Avenue on June 29, and Minnieville Road on June 28, Perok said.

“Detectives became increasingly concerned over the robberies escalating after the suspect was found to have discharged a handgun during the two more recent incidents. Forensic examination of the shell casing recovered on July 5 is ongoing,” Perok said.

At the time of the July 22 homicide, the deceased was wearing clothing that was also observed in the reported robberies, Perok said.

“Following the investigations into this robbery series, all known evidence indicates the deceased was responsible for all five incidents,” Perok said.

Detectives are still looking into why Smart was at that particular house on Hoffman Drive on July 22, Perok said.

Federal law-enforcement officials from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives contributed to the investigation, Perok said.

The first shooting was justified. When the driver came back to finish the robber off, he was stupid, and it’s going to cost him. Even if he manages to find that one sympathetic juror for the first and maybe third mistrial, he’s going to pay through the nose for it.
Oh, and another lesson for all concerned.
This reinforces that anywhere you are, consider that you are on camera.

Maybe not the best use of force. Lucky she wasn’t charged

Yakima homeowner shoots at trespassing burglar on the run

POMONA, Wash. — A Yakima County homeowner fired at a burglar’s getaway vehicle after she caught him hiding out in her garage.

According to a press release issued by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner on the 1900-block of E Pomona Rd called 9-1-1 at 3:16 p.m. on July 30 while she held the burglar at gunpoint. The suspect then fled the garage and hopped into a commercial “Snap-On Tools” truck, which had been reported stolen from the City of Yakima roughly a half-hour earlier.

While the male suspect drove off, the homeowner attempted to shoot the tires out of the large commercial truck before he could escape. She missed, but sheriff’s deputies spotted the truck off the 300-block of Romona Heights Rd. Law enforcement converged on the vehicle, but the suspect had already fled.

While checking the area, another deputy saw a suspicious individual sitting in a “side-by-side ATV.” He made contact with the individual, who they identified as the suspect in the burglary and auto theft. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities later determined that the suspect stole the ATV from a nearby residence while fleeing.

Deputies booked a 39-year-old Port Orchard transient into the Yakima County Jail for multiple felony charges including burglary to the second degree and two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

But this seems to me like we’re not getting the whole story

Good grief. It took him long enough. If I was a voter in the Ft Smith area, I might be looking for a better candidate to replace this goober in the next election.

Prosecutor says deadly physical force justified in Fort Smith shooting

FORT SMITH — A Fort Smith man who stopped a shooting rampage in May by killing the gunman won’t face criminal charges, prosecutors said.

Sebastian County Prosecutor Dan Shue announced his decision Wednesday in a letter to Police Chief Danny Baker. Shue said after reviewing the investigative reports surrounding the shooting, his office concluded Wallace A. West, 58, was justified under Arkansas law in the fatal shooting of Zachary Brian Arnold, 26.

West shot Arnold after Arnold killed Lois Hicks, 87, in her home at Three Corners Apartments at 3600 S. 74th St., according to police.

“Mr. West acted lawfully when he shot Mr. Arnold and likely saved a number of lives in the process,” a Police Department news release states. “At last count, Mr. Arnold had fired 93 rounds from his semiautomatic rifle before Mr. West was able to stop him. There were no other fatalities or injuries, though a number of residents were home at the time of the assault.”

The Police Department started receiving calls of a shooting at the apartment complex about 7:15 a.m. May 15, according to Shue. Arnold came out of his apartment firing a semiautomatic rifle while yelling at his neighbors to come outside, according to police.

Hicks came outside to check on Arnold, who chased her into her apartment and shot her multiple times.

West, identified in the Police Department news release Wednesday as an off-duty employee of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, woke to the sound of gunshots, Shue wrote. He ran outside and saw Arnold shooting into Hicks’ apartment.

West then grabbed a bolt action rifle, which was scoped and loaded, from his gun cabinet, stepped onto his balcony and fired once at Arnold, missing him because he was “shaking so badly,” according to his witness statement.

Arnold turned and fired several rounds at West.

Arnold went back into his apartment, presumably to reload, and he came back outside, Shue wrote. He began walking down the complex, rifle in hand, according to West. West took a second shot, which struck Arnold in the head and killed him.
