Maxim Defense Weighs in on the Brace Issue & What YOU Can Do About It

Minnesota-based Maxim Defense is urging the public to get involved in the fight to save pistol stabilizing braces, an act that can be as simple as commenting on a website.

Based in St. Cloud, Maxim entered the gun industry as a bit of a maverick company, specializing originally in accessories before moving into all-up firearms such as the PDX pistol. Among their most popular products has been their series of SCW, PDW, and CQB stabilizing braces, making them well-positioned to weigh in on the looming issue surrounding the planned ATF rule that would, in all likelihood, outlaw most pistol/brace combinations without a tax stamp.

While visiting the Maxim last month, we talked with Dave Larson, the company’s CMO, about the brace question.

“It’s so important for us to fight for our rights, to fight for regulations that we all believe in that don’t impede upon our Second Amendment,” said Larson, urging gun owners to comment on the proposed rule. “We don’t have a tremendous amount of time to comment on this.”

Larson said even the ATF has said there is a market and purpose to stabilizing braces.

“It helps people go out and have sporting fun, it helps people for home defense, and not only that, but the school resource officers who have to carry their own purchased firearm are purchasing the pistol braces because it allows them to not have to go through a tax stamp and all the SBR regulations to actually be able to do their own job,” said Larson.

As of Wednesday, there were 112,000 comments posted on the proposed rulemaking, which has been viewed 287,000 times. It is estimated by the ATF that “only” 1 million Americans would be impacted by the proposed rule. Meanwhile, the Congressional Research Service said the true number could be as high as 40 million.

Man beating woman at Sahara Las Vegas was shot with his own gun

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man shot at the Sahara Las Vegas on Sunday, June 27 was in the process of beating a woman when one of her friends took his gun and shot him, according to the arrest report. However police are still trying to determine who shot him.

The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. in a hotel hallway on the 22nd floor. That’s where police found Brandon Dangerfield suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

According to Dangerfield’s arrest report, his former girlfriend said he had shown up uninvited to her birthday party at a hotel room on the 22nd floor and then tried pulling her out of the room through the front door after threatening to shoot her girlfriends.

During the physical fight, the ex-girlfriend told police, Dangerfield choked her, hit her in the face, and dragged her face across the carpet causing a “rug burn on her right temple and swelling to both eyes.” In addition, the officers noted Dangerfield’s hands on her neck caused petechiae (broken capillary blood vessels) to her right eye, the report said.

During this fight, the woman’s girlfriends attempted to protect her which resulted in “Dangerfield suffering numerous scratches on his face and chest.”

“It is believed during the fight the women had with Dangerfield, one of them was able to obtain Dangerfield’s gun and shoot him,” the report said.

The person who pulled the trigger could be facing a charge of battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm.

At one point, Dangerfield’s injuries were considered life-threatening but following surgery doctors said he would survive the gunshot wound.

Dangerfield is facing a charge of battery domestic violence strangulation and was booked into Clark County Detention Center in absentia.

American Accountability Foundation report on ATF Director nominee David Chipman

 “…an inadequate understanding of firearms regulation”

Outlined below are a series of research findings that present several serious concerns that are potentially disqualifying regarding David Chipman, the President’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

As the report below outlines, Mr. Chipman has a record of toxic, problematic, and discriminatory behavior at the ATF. These include credible allegations that Chipman told an African American agent at the Bureau that black agents could not have passed an examination without cheating.

There are also serious concerns about the possibility that Chipman lost or
had his service weapon stolen while stationed in Washington D.C. There are also concerns that Chipman attempted to secure an impermissible relocation benefit when he was transferred out of headquarters.

Chipman has also made a series of radical, inaccurate, and inflammatory comments that raise serious questions about his judgement and fitness to lead. Chipman has lied about firearms use at the Waco siege to push his gun control agenda, supported defunding the police and ending
the war on drugs, supported arresting individuals before they have committed crimes, and supported radical left-wing groups and causes. And these are only the things we are aware of.

Mr. Chipman has been aggressive in deleting or obscuring his social media history by deleting posts and blocking access. This leads one to ask: If Mr. Chipman is afraid of talking about his past, does it say something about his past?

Finally, Chipman has an ideological furor that is coupled with an inadequate understanding of firearms regulation, a troubling issue for someone who would head an agency with broad regulatory authority. Despite the Assault Weapon Ban being the most high-profile issue regarding guns on Capitol Hill, supposed firearms expert David Chipman could not give a clear answer to what an “Assault Weapon” is.

Chipman has also regularly distorted technical issues related to firearms to promote a radical gun agenda.

Analysis: Are We Seeing a New Normal for Gun Sales?

A trend has begun to emerge in gun sales.

June saw 1.2 million gun sales. That’s down from a year ago, but it’s up from every other June on record. March and May told the exact same story. So did the second quarter overall.

It seems the United States may have found its new normal for gun sales.

The recent 2021 numbers are down significantly from 2020’s all-time record numbers, which makes sense. As the coronavirus swept the country, incredible uncertainty followed behind it. Mass layoffs, prisoner releases, lockdowns, and meat shortages drove Americans to the gun store at an all-time record rate.

June 2020 saw severe unrest sparked by the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Ultimately, that boiled over into nationwide rioting, which pushed the masses back to the gun store.

The election of President Joe Biden and his continued pursuit of restrictive new gun laws are likely helping keep demand for guns at an elevated level. However, with vaccination rates rising and the virus subsiding, it shouldn’t be surprising that 2021 sales are not quite matching 2020 anymore. It’s difficult to sustain an all-time record sales rate for more than a year and a half.

The fact the new normal is below the all-time records doesn’t mean you should run out and sell your Smith & Wesson stock or expect the ammo shortage to let up anytime soon. In fact, this is exactly the result the industry expected.

“When coming off a new high the valley floor is always higher than before the spike,” Larry Keane, senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, told me.

And they’re happy with the new normal because sales are still far beyond anything else we’ve seen before.

With the political situation unlikely to change significantly anytime soon, it’s doubtful sales will fall below their second-best pace. If anything, politics are likely to drive sales up again soon. If President Biden follows through on his attempt to expand the ATF’s power to regulate unfinished firearms or ban and register tens of millions of guns equipped with pistol braces, that will likely drive many to buy more guns before the hammer drops.

With deadlines for those two executive actions running out at the end of the summer, gun control will probably break back into the broader media landscape. More attention on new restrictions is likely to drive new interest in buying.

So, what will fall 2021 look like?

Last fall didn’t have the nationwide rioting of the early summer, and Americans had already adjusted to the pandemic as best they could. The toilet paper and meat shortages had subsided. Many of the factors that drove the earlier gun-buying had waned. Even still, the all-time records carried on.

This fall will be on more of an even footing in terms of motivation. But Biden’s gun-control moves could push it over the top. We’ve reached a new normal for now, but September or October could push things right back into record territory. That’s the next big event to watch for.

Intruder shot, killed by homeowner

CORDELIA, Calif. — A home intruder was shot and killed by a homeowner in Solano County on Tuesday morning, according to a public official.

Police said Tuesday afternoon they had a spokesperson en route to the scene but did not release their account of the incident.

According to an account that Council member Catherine Moy posted to social media, a man “kicked a door off its hinges” at a home in the 600 block of Vintage Valley Drive in Cordelia after knocking and getting no answer at the residence. The intruder then entered the home.

“The homeowner was inside with his wife and had armed himself with his legally owned .357 Magnum after seeing the suspect on his Ring camera,” the account Moy provided went on to say.

The homeowner then fired two shots at the suspect, who fled the home and collapsed across the street.

The homeowner called 911, and police responded and found the shot suspect.

The suspect, who had been shot in the chest area, was pronounced dead, according to Moy’s post.

According to the account Moy provided, a gun was found on the ground next to the suspect. It’s unclear if the suspect brandished the weapon at any point.

“Horrible situation,” Moy wrote in her post.

No other information was provided.

The president of the University of Pennsylvania is poised to become U.S. Ambassador to Germany after paying then-Vice President Joe Biden $900,000 for a job at the Ivy League school that required no regular classes and up to 12 appearances on campus.

Penn President Amy Gutmann will likely be announced as Biden’s pick for the prime ambassadorship, raising questions about whether the slot is payback for the lucrative position Biden held at Penn after leaving the vice president’s office in 2017, according to news reports.

Upon accepting the offer, Biden became the Benjamin Franklin Presidential Practice Professor, the first person to hold the position.

Biden collected $371,159 in 2017 and $540,484 in 2018 and early 2019 for a job with largely undefined duties. The agreement also required around a dozen appearances on campus, most of which were attended by wealthy donors paying top-dollar for tickets.

Biden left his position at the school in April 2019 to run for president.

Biden’s lucrative job came at the same time Democrats continued a national push to “cancel” student loans, arguing the cost of college had gotten out of hand and students were saddled with enormous debt. In 2012, Biden himself blamed professor salaries, in part, for driving the “skyrocketing” cost of college.

Driver charged with aggravated assault for hitting bicyclist in SE Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man and woman were riding their bikes on the street Sunday in southeast Houston when a driver used his vehicle to hit the woman, knocking her off her bike, officials say.

Authorities say the male cyclist was in fear for his life and fired shots at the driver.

It happened in the 5000 block of Jefferson Street around 2:19 p.m.

Police said the driver told the bicyclists that they could not be riding around in the neighborhood. The violent confrontation happened a short time later.

The male cyclist had a gun on him and shot the driver, police said.

“He was in fear of his life, and he was trying to defend himself,” a police officer at the scene said of the bicyclist.

Police also said the driver had no right to tell the bicyclists they could not ride around in the area.

 

The driver, identified as Jose Angel Hernandez, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Houston police.

The bicyclists are OK, according to authorities. The driver was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition was not known.

More than 7,000 Hoosiers apply for free lifetime gun permits

It would appear Indiana’s lifetime gun permits are in demand, now that they’re free.

The Indiana State Police firearms licensing website experienced a “high number” of applicants that stopped many in their tracks as they attempted to apply for a lifetime gun permit Thursday.

On July 1, the lifetime license to carry a handgun became free.

“Due to a high number of current applicants, we must limit the number of individuals applying at one time. Please try again later.”

Many, though, we successfully able to apply for the free permits. Indiana State Police told WANE 15 that 7,054 lifetime permit applications were submitted Thursday.

If you’re still having trouble applying for a free lifetime gun permit, state police said in a statement Thursday to just be patient.

“Today is the first day where Indiana Hoosiers can now go online and apply for a free lifetime permit to carry a handgun. As expected, the Indiana State Police is receiving a large influx of applications being submitted on this first day. With the increased number of applications that are being submitted, the Indiana State Police is asking for the public’s patience and understanding, as we diligently continue to work through such a large quantity of applications.”

1 killed, 3 wounded in Austin shooting

One person was killed and three others wounded in a shooting Sunday night in Austin on the West Side.

About 10:45 p.m., two men and a woman were standing in an alley in the first block of North Menard Avenue when a 33-year-old man began shooting at them, Chicago police said.

A woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified her as 45-year-old Janina Ford.

A man, 32, was struck multiple times in the body and taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Another man, 49, suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken to the same hospital where his condition was also stabilized, police said.

A 49-year-old man, who was a concealed carry license holder, witnessed the incident and shot at the offender, according to police.

The offender, a 33-year-old man, was struck in the arm and hip, police said. He was placed into custody and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

More People Are Buying Guns. Fewer People Are Getting Background Checks.
Amid a surge in gun sales, the FBI didn’t complete over 316,000 gun background checks last year.

America’s gun background check system, designed to keep weapons out of the hands of people who might use them in crimes, has struggled to keep up with record firearms sales over the past year — even as violent crime has risen dramatically in many U.S. cities.

In recent years, the FBI — which manages the system that vets gun buyers — processed an average of 8.6 million gun background checks annually, according to historical data analyzed by FiveThirtyEight.1 But last year, the bureau processed 12,761,328 background checks, according to FBI data obtained by FiveThirtyEight through a public records request.

In other words, it’s impossible to know how many guns were sold to people in 2020 who couldn’t legally own them because those background checks were never completed.

12-year-old killed armed burglar during home invasion

EAST FELICIANA La. (WAFB) – A 12-year-old boy who feared for his life and mother’s shot and killed an armed burglar during a home invasion in East Feliciana Parish on Wednesday, June 30.

According to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, witnesses saw Brad LeBlanc, 32, armed with a pistol and made contact with the primary female resident in the 5800 block of Winchester Lane outside her home in the early Wednesday morning.

LeBlanc forced her inside of the home. Once inside the home, a struggle began between Leblanc and the female resident. It was at this time the 12-year-old son of the female victim, who feared for his and his mother’s safety, shot LeBlanc with a hunting rifle.

The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and first responders were notified and responded immediately to the scene. Upon arrival CPR was administered to Leblanc who was later transported to Lane Regional Medical Center.

LeBlanc was later pronounced dead at the hospital by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner.

“I don’t know what you tell a kid like that. That is such a horrific incident that I tried to put myself in that position this week thinking when my kids were 12-years-old, if they were to have to do that what would I have told them,” said Sheriff Jeff Travis.

People who live in the neighborhood were so nervous that they didn’t feel comfortable talking on camera.

Sheriff Travis says he has kept in close contact with the mom. She told him her son is doing OK, and that she has already taken the steps to get him the help he needs.

“The support of the family and the community in the fact that the mother is understanding that he’s going to need some treatment and need to talk to people and helping him understand that he’s a very normal person that was put in an abnormal situation,” said Travis.

This investigation is still on going. Any further details will be reported at the time it is deemed appropriate.

Sheriff Travis says the case will head to the District Attorney’s office once they wrap up their investigation.

Armed suspect killed during alleged home invasion near Clinton

CLINTON, La. (WAFB) – One person is dead after they allegedly broke into a home near Clinton early Wednesday morning, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis tells WAFB.

The sheriff says deputies responded to a reported home invasion in the 5800 block of Winchester Lane around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30.

Witnesses told investigators an armed suspect broke into the home Wednesday morning, authorities say.

“At some point during this incident the perpetrator was fatally shot by a resident of the home,” Travis said.

The sheriff says while deputies were investigating the incident they learned at least two other suspects, Johnathon Barker, of Clinton, and Jennifer Bond, of Ethel, were involved in the home invasion.

Barker was arrested and booked into the East Feliciana Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder, principle to aggravated burglary, and principle to aggravated kidnapping.

Bond was arrested and booked on the charge of accessory after the fact.

Travis says the name of the deceased suspect is being withheld at this time until they can be identified by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office and their next of kin have been notified.

The case remains under investigation by the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office.

I always find it odd that America alone is criticized for injustices such as slavery, racism, inequality, and civil rights violations. It’s as if the vast majority of people are truly under the impression these injustices only ever happened here. In truth, the entirety of human history is marred by these evils, and in many places, you’ll find much worse conditions for civil liberties to this day………….
