Auburn homeowner shoots at 3 armed men during attempted burglary

AUBURN, Wash. — A homeowner in Auburn fired multiple shots at three armed men attempting to break into their home early Thursday morning.

According to the Auburn Police Department (APD), officers responded to a report of a non-injury shooting at a home on the 31000 block of 117 Place Southeast around 2 a.m. Thursday. A resident at the address told responding officers three people wearing masks attempted to break into the home.

Security video from the home shows three armed men wearing masks walk up to the home, open the screen door and start kicking the door. One of the men can be heard in the video yelling, “Seattle police.”

Two of the men continued to try and kick in the door before the third suspect was able to kick the door open. The APD said the homeowner was armed and “quickly started firing shots at the intruders through the door.”

Multiple shots were fired before the suspects fled from the home.

One of the men can be seen in the video wearing a grey sweatshirt or jacket, grey sweatpants and what appear to be blue or black shoes.

Another suspect can be seen wearing black pants and a black or blue jacket. The third suspect can be seen in the video wearing brown pants and a black sweatshirt or jacket. All three of the men were wearing masks, and at least two of the men appear to be wearing gloves.

The video shows all three of the men were armed with a pistol.

No other suspect information has been released at this time.

Resident acts in self-defense, shoots man in Laurens Co

GRAY COURT, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office a man is dead following an altercation in Gray Court on Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies went to Barnyard Road in reference to someone being shot. Upon arrival, deputies immediately rendered aid to the individual.

After investigating, deputies said it was determined that there was ongoing threatening behavior and domestic issues occurring the gunshot victim and other individuals living in the area prior to the incident.

Deputies said on Monday, the gunshot victim was on the property and presented himself in a menacing and threatening manner with a weapon. The subject did not comply with the resident’s request to vacate the premises and did continue towards the resident, attempting to tackle him to the ground.

Officials said at this time, the resident did fear for his life and protected himself by acting in self-defense. For this reason, no charges are filed.

The gunshot victim passed away from his injuries at the hospital. He was identified by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office as David Dale Arrington of Gray Court.

Kokomo homeowner reportedly shoots, kills man breaking into home

KOKOMO, Ind. — A man is dead after he was shot by a homeowner when he broke into their house on Sunday evening.

According to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department, a homeowner near the intersection of East Jackson Street and North Purdum Street called 911 and told them he had shot a man who had broken into his home around 8:44 p.m. on Sunday.

When police responded to the home, officials said they located a man, identified by police as 51-year-old Scott Elliot Jones, with a gunshot wound in the front door area of the home. The release said that the homeowner told police he was asleep in the home when he was awakened by Jones in the living room.

The release said that the homeowner attempted to get Jones to leave his home when Jones reportedly attacked the homeowner. Officials said the homeowner then discharged his weapon at the man.

Officials said that the homeowner was treated for minor abrasions and bruising from the altercation. The Howard County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation, according to the release, and an autopsy is being scheduled.

The release said that the case will be forwarded to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office for a “review of all findings at the completion of the investigation.” If individuals have any information about the case, they are asked to contact Detective Dustin Spicer at (765) 456-7194.

When Hamas Attacked, This Israeli Kibbutz Fought Back and Won

At 6:56 a.m. on Oct. 7, Moshe Kaplan sent an urgent alert to his volunteer security force in Mefalsim, a kibbutz of 1,000 men, women and children in southern Israel where he served as security chief.
“There’s a shooting in the village from the gate!” he texted after militants fired at his car as he drove past the main entrance. Attackers later blew open a pedestrian gate nearby with explosives and flooded into the kibbutz.
Kaplan rushed home to grab his armored vest, helmet and M16 rifle, then drove off to check another gate on the northwest corner. There he found armed men were already inside the razor-wire security fence that encircled the community.
“Terrorists in the kibbutz! Terrorists in the kibbutz!” he yelled in a second, panicked voice text, begging his men to hurry. Gunshots sounded in the background. He had trained a dozen men for this moment, a surprise attack from nearby Gaza. Yet 19 minutes after his first alert, none had arrived.
Kaplan left his car and shot at assailants from behind a metal garbage container. One lobbed a hand grenade at him. In a stroke of luck for him and Mefalsim, it didn’t explode.
More than two dozen Hamas fighters from Gaza had arrived with orders to subdue the small security force and herd hostages into the community dining hall. They carried a detailed map of the kibbutz and, like other assault teams in southern Israel that morning, an attack plan labeled “top secret.”
Mefalsim was one place that day where nothing for the Hamas attackers went according to plan.

Female homeowner shoots alleged home invasion robber in Hollywood Hills

LOS ANGELES – A female homeowner in the Hollywood Hills took matters into her own hands after someone attempted to break into her home, authorities said.

An official with the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooting was reported just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Hollyridge Drive in the Beachwood Canyon community.

The homeowner told LAPD investigators she first saw the suspect in her backyard before he made his way to one of her doors and attempted forcible entry. She asked the suspect to leave, but he apparently refused.

She continued to feel threatened after the suspect reached into his pocket and she thought he was getting out a weapon. That’s when the homeowner opened fire and struck the suspect. He was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The homeowner has not been detained in the shooting.

No further information was immediately available and the investigation is ongoing.

Man who broke into ex-girlfriend’s home with sledgehammer shot twice by current partner

BATON ROUGE – A man was arrested Wednesday morning after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and was shot twice by her current partner.

According to a spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Police Department, Jake Rayborn went to the house around 9 a.m. and broke through the door with a sledgehammer.

Once inside, police said Rayborn pulled out a gun and started shooting at the victim, her 3-year-old child and her current boyfriend. Officers said the boyfriend also grabbed a gun and shot Rayborn twice.

Rayborn was taken to a hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries and then taken to jail. He was booked with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police said Rayborn and the victim were separated for four months before the attack happened.

Homeowner shoots, kills man during break-in at Phoenix house

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — An investigation is underway after an intruder was shot and killed by a homeowner late Thursday night. According to police, a man was trying to break into a home near 17th Avenue and Camelback Road just before 11 p.m. The homeowner then reportedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest during the break-in. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ricky Gomez, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

Roger Smith lives next door and was getting ready for bed when he heard the gunfire. He’s just happy no one in the house was hurt. “He has two young kids, and he has a wife, and he’s protecting his family,” said Smith. “You know the guy broke the window and got in. He did what he had to do.” By Friday morning, the window was boarded up. Arizona’s Family spoke to the homeowner off-camera, and he politely declined to be interviewed.

Phoenix defense attorney Dwane Cates said that Arizona law protects homeowners who shoot someone who breaks into their house. “If somebody is outside your window and you just see them peeking around out in the bushes, it may not be reasonable to shoot them,” said Cates. “But if they actually enter your house coming through a window or kick down your front door, then you’re absolutely within your rights to shoot them. It’s called the Castle Doctrine. Your home is your castle, and you have the right to defend your home.”

It’s unclear why Gomez was breaking into the house.

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Although most of the Kibbutzim in the western Negev were woefully unprepared for a mass Hamas attack and paid a heavy price in civilian casualties, there was one Kibbutz where Hamas did not succeed in conquering the Kibbutz, did not take captives and did not cause any civilian casualties.

The kibbutz is situated at the southwestern tip of Israel, near the border with Gaza and Egypt. A few years ago, the kibbutz nearly disbanded due to lack of people willing to live in the parched, arid zone with few employment opportunities. However a Garin Torani (nucleus of Bnei Torah) arrived a few years ago to strengthen the kibbutz and to build their lives there in pioneering fashion. The young religious families energized the kibbutz and on Simchas Torah all the residents both religious and secular celebrated in the shul with many guests from all over the country.

At one point, Moshe Yedidia Raziel stood in the middle of the circle and began singing Am Yisrael Chai as everyone jumped up and down in unison. At the end of the Hakafos everyone went back to eat the festive meal.

At 6:30 A.M they awoke to sirens around the Kibbutz and the defenders, consisting of nine local residents with army training (former IDF soldiers) and six soldiers, prepared for the invasion. Amichai Yisrael Vitzan told his wife that “this is what we have been training for.” The small force deployed around the kibbutz in different places. Tens of terrorists infiltrated the kibbutz and the force engaged them in fierce fighting.

Kerem Shalom’s 35 homes became a battlefield. In the first hours the force eliminated many of the terrorists and for 6 hours continued the battle alone. In on of the shootouts, the wife of Moshe Yedidia Raziel heard heavy shooting and then Yedidia shouted: “We eliminated them”.

Amichai was calm and told his wife on Whatsapp to make the children feel good as today is Simchas Torah. This was the last she heard from him. A few hours after the fighting started, a terrorist surprised Amichai Yisrael and Moshe Yedidia from behind and murdered both of them. Amichai (33) left five children and Moshe (31) left three children. Both were friends from the same community (Psagot), both were studying social work in Ashkelon and both came to help the struggling kibbutz. It was their heroic struggle which saved the kibbutz members from the fate of neighboring communities. All of the families were saved (two other members of the fighting group were injured) and nobody was taken captive.

The army arrived only at 1 PM after the group had fought off Hamas for six hours.

 

Armed Chicago tow truck driver turns the tables on suspected drive-by shooter

A concealed carry holder in Chicago turned the tables on a suspected drive-by shooter who opened fire on a group of people after a car crash, according to a report.

“The shooting happened so quickly, I didn’t have time to react,” witness Lorenzo Hernandez told ABC 7 via a Spanish translator. “In Chicago, you go to work not knowing if you will come back home. This happens everywhere. I thank God that I didn’t get hit.”

Police said they responded to a drive-by shooting at about 2 p.m. on the Southwest Side, the outlet reported, and squad cards surrounded a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus.

Hernandez said he witnessed a car crash involving four vehicles and a CTA bus near 47th and Archer that afternoon. He witnessed riders exit the bus before someone in a white Dodge Durango allegedly shot at the group.

“I saw the bus crash happen as I was stopped at the light,” Hernandez said.

A 55-year-old male CTA bus supervisor was hit during the gunfire. The man was injured after responding to the scene for the crash, ABC 7 reported.

Hernandez said he was in his SUV near a tow truck driver when the gunman fired in his direction and hit his vehicle. The tow truck driver, Hernandez said, ducked when the gunfire erupted and he feared the trucker was hit.

The tow truck driver, who did not provide his name to local media, however, reemerged during the shooting and fired off two shots at the suspect, ABC 7 reported.

The suspect has not been identified and fled the scene before police were able to make any arrests. The police department confirmed that a witness with a concealed carry permit returned fire on the suspect, according to ABC 7.

The tow truck driver told the outlet that the shooter aimed at him before he returned fire.

A bullet was found lodged in Hernandez’s SUV, the outlet reported.

“The bullet looked like it was headed in my direction, but got stopped by the car,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez added that the tow truck driver came over and thanked him following the shooting, because the car prevented him from getting shot.

“The tow truck driver thanked me. He said if my SUV wasn’t there, he would have gotten killed,” Hernandez said.

The CTA bus supervisor was taken to a local hospital in stable condition after suffering a gunshot to his thigh. He was not the reported target of the shooting, according to the outlet.

The Chicago Police Department told Fox News Digital on Sunday evening that there were no updates to the case and the investigation remains ongoing.

Woman shoots, kills man in self-defense

A man, 44, was shot and killed by a woman, 45, who said she acted in self-defense early Friday on the Southeast Side [of San Antonio, Texas]
Officers responded to a shooting shortly before 3 a.m. in the 100 block of Denver Boulevard, near Interstate 37. Once on the scene, officers were informed that the woman allegedly shot the man in the chest after being assaulted by him.
According to the preliminary report, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.  The woman is cooperating with detectives, police said.

Chicago shooting: CCL holder fires back at gunman who shot CTA employee in Archer Heights

CHICAGO (WLS) — A Concealed Carry License holder fired back at a gunman who shot a CTA bus supervisor on the city’s Southwest Side on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Chicago police said the drive-by shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the Archer Heights neighborhood. Chopper 7 was over the scene, where police squad cars surrounded a CTA bus under an overpass near West 47th Street and South Archer Avenue.

ABC7 spoke with Lorenzo Hernandez, who was caught in the crossfire while heading to work in his SUV. He is thankful to be alive after a bullet from the shooting, still lodged in his SUV, stopped short of hitting him and a nearby tow truck driver.

Hernandez, who spoke to ABC7 in Spanish through a translator, said he was sitting at the 47th and Archer when he saw a crash involving a CTA bus and at least four other vehicles.

“I saw the bus crash happen as I was stopped at the light,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez said after the crash, more than a dozen people got out of the bus and impacted vehicles when someone inside a white Dodge Durango shot at them.

Police said one of the bullets hit the CTA bus supervisor, a 55-year-old man, who was responding to the crash.

Hernandez was sitting in the driver’s seat when one bullet hit his SUV, stopping short of hitting him. The engine blocked the bullet from continuing through.

“The bullet looked like it was headed in my direction, but got stopped by the car,” Hernandez said.

At the same time, a tow truck driver, who was helping to move the vehicles, was standing by Hernandez’s SUV when he dropped down.

Hernandez initially thought the tow truck driver was hit, but then saw him jump back up and run around the front of his SUV, where he fired two shots at the gunman. That tow truck driver, who didn’t want to go on camera, told ABC7 he saw the shooter take aim at him before he fired his own gun.

Hernandez said you never know what can happen at any moment, and he is grateful to have his life.

“The shooting happened so quickly, I didn’t have time to react,” Hernandez said. “In Chicago, you go to work not knowing if you will come back home. This happens everywhere. I thank God that I didn’t get hit.”

At the end of the chaotic ordeal, Hernandez said the tow truck driver came over to him to thank him.

“The tow truck driver thanked me. He said if my SUV wasn’t there, he would have gotten killed,” Hernandez said.

Police were speaking with the tow truck driver at the scene, and he was asked to stay behind as part of the investigation. CPD also confirmed a witness with a Concealed Carry License fired back at the shooters.

Police said the CTA worker, struck in his thigh, was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A CTA spokesperson said their bus supervisor was not the shooter’s intended target.

The investigation has forced a shutdown of many roadways in the area.

Armed homeowner steps in after girlfriend’s estranged husband allegedly breaks in

An Oklahoma man reportedly stepped in when his girlfriend’s estranged husband allegedly broke into their home, leading to one neighbor praising the state’s gun laws.

“People just be breaking into other people’s houses over here and… I guess that’s what’s going on. And I’m just glad that it’s open carry in this state because people need to be able to protect [themselves],” Midwest City, Oklahoma, resident only identified as Gabrielle told OKC Fox.

Oklahoma is a permitless carry state, meaning law-abiding residents 21 years old or older are permitted to open or concealed carry firearms without a license.

Gabrielle is the neighbor of a home on Flannery Drive that was broken into Wednesday morning. The affidavit for the shooting states the male and female resident were home when they heard their dog’s barking, prompting the male resident to go inspect, OKC Fox reported.

The male homeowner then encountered Mauricio Alexander Delarosa, 34, inside the home, OKC Fox reported. Delarosa was identified by police as the female homeowner’s estranged husband. The male resident of the home is the boyfriend of Delarosa’s estranged wife.

The estranged husband and new boyfriend had never met, according to police records.

The suspect reportedly charged at the boyfriend before the male resident grabbed his firearm. The boyfriend fired a single shot at Delarosa, hitting him in the chest.

Police records showed that Delarosa had called his estranged wife more than 170 times from Tuesday afternoon until the shooting Wednesday morning.

Delarosa reportedly fled the home after being shot and was found collapsed in a neighbor’s yard. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and will later be taken to the local jail, according to the police department.

Gabrielle warned criminals that many men and women are armed in the state, and will open fire if they come under attack, according to her comments to OKC Fox.

“I guess they see targets, but I’m telling you, you think them single moms aren’t armed, or, you know, them single dads or people are not going to protect their home. You come in them doors you know and you’re not invited you might get filled up with holes. And that’s just the honest truth,” added Gabrielle.

Gabrielle said crime has increased in the Midwest City neighborhood since an elementary school closed last year and is calling for more lighting and safety measures on the street.

Delarosa was charged with first-degree burglary and stalking.

Man killed in apparent self-defense shooting in Stead

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — An investigation is underway after an apparent self-defense shooting left one man dead in Stead Thursday night.

Officers with the Reno Police Department responded to a home off Lagoon Drive near Mayors park just after 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 on the report of a shooting.

Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Investigators said everyone involved in the shooting stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Authorities believe the shooting was an act of self-defense and no arrests have been made at this time.

Police investigate stabbing in South Tulsa as self-defense

TULSA, Okla. — Police say they’re investigating a stabbing that took place Wednesday night in south Tulsa as self-defense.

According to the Tulsa Police Department, a man was hitting a home near 63rd and Peoria with a stick and looking into the window.

Police said the teen then went out to investigate and the suspect hit him with a stick.

According to police, the teen defended himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed the suspect multiple times, including in the chest.

Police said the suspect was later taken to the hospital and is now in critical but stable condition.

 

Woman reportedly shoots, kills potential attacker in Colorado Springs

A man was fatally shot when he reportedly tried to assault a woman in Colorado Springs early Monday, according to police.

Around 1:15 a.m., police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6900 block of Alpine Currant View, located directly southwest of Woodmen Road and Union Boulevard.

The woman who reported the shooting said she had been “about to be attacked by a male she just met,” so she shot him and then left the area, police said.

Officers located the woman in her car at a nearby hospital and found a deceased male in the apartment complex parking lot, officials said.

The woman was interviewed and released , police said.

One dead, one arrested following attempted home invasion in Spring Valley

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A man is dead, and another is in custody following an attempted home invasion in Spring Valley on Wednesday morning.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, reports of a shooting at a single-family residence in the 3300 block of Iberia Street around 9:02 a.m.

The caller claimed that two individuals dressed in dark clothing and masks attempted to enter their residence, and their son shot them.

Officers arriving on the scene made contact with the caller, who was identified as a 70-year-old man, and his son, who was identified as a 50-year-old man and the shooter. According to LVMPD Homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson, both subjects with not be facing charges, as the shooting was determined to be in self-defense.

The father told officers that one of the suspects appeared to be dead in the backyard, where officers would discover the body of a 20-year-old man. Medical personnel arriving on the scene would declare him deceased.

The second suspect involved in the attempted invasion was seen leaping over the wall in the backyard and fleeing the scene in a gray sedan.

About 10 minutes after the initial 911 call, LVMPD also received reports of a reckless driver who drove through a parking lot on Tropicana and Jones at a “high rate of speed.” The vehicle was then seen leaving the lot headed eastbound on Tropicana.

Lt. Johansson says the vehicle was later involved in a collision on Tropicana and Decatur, where the sedan struck two other vehicles. After crashing, the suspect exited the vehicle, and police observed a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower leg.”

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in custody.

LVMPD will be looking into recent burglaries in the area to see if there are any possible connections. Lt. Johansson says that police have identified at least one incident of interest.

It’s currently unclear if the suspects were armed at the time of the incident.

Officers will be in the area for the next few hours to conduct an investigation into the incident. Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling in the neighborhood and surrounding areas.

“Right now, it’s just gonna come down to interviewing, getting the rest of the surveillance footage, and serving a search warrant on the house and the vehicle,” Lt. Johansson said.

Resident shoots, kills attempted burglar at West Melbourne apartment

Police in West Melbourne are investigating after an attempted burglary turned into a deadly shooting inside an apartment complex early Sunday morning.

According to the West Melbourne Police Department, officers responded to an apartment at the Reserves of Melbourne off Doherty Drive for reports of a shooting inside an apartment.

Officers learned that multiple, possibly armed, subjects had forcefully entered an apartment. According to police, one suspect had a gun.

The apartment’s resident, armed with their own firearm, shot multiple times and struck two of the subjects.

One was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead. The second person who was shot also went to the hospital, where they are currently being treated.

Many in the neighborhood were caught off guard. “Oh my God. Sick, wow,” said Sarah Goodman, who has a relative in the apartment complex.

“I noticed six police cars and the yellow tape way out there,” Miles Svikhart, a resident, said. “Yes, it’s very scary,” a resident said.

After getting over the initial shock, people we talked to felt like the people in the apartment really had no choice.

“I mean, I’m a proud Second Amendment person myself. So if you invade my home, I’m going to protect my space,” Goodman said.

“The homeowner had to do something,” Svikhart said. “It’s self-defense. That’s why you have a gun. If he didn’t have that gun, I’m sure he’d be in a lot more trouble.”

At this point, no charges have been filed against the person who shot the home invaders. The State Attorney’s Office will handle that decision.

In the meantime, police are working to find out the motive and if they knew each other.

West Melbourne police say at least three people were in the apartment at the time of the home invasion. No one involved in the incident has been identified.

‘He was like a lion in a cage’: Naked man shot dead inside restaurant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — One of the owners of a North Memphis restaurant says she was forced to shoot a naked intruder who threatened her and her family members inside the North Hollywood business late Monday night.

The woman, who did not want to be identified by name, said the man dressed only in sneakers showed up to Mr. Potato Head asking for water and managed to push his way inside, shutting the self-locking doors behind him.

She said the man became enraged when he couldn’t leave the restaurant, began damaging property, and jammed the doors trying to get out. She said he also punched her in the chest and continued to come toward her even though she was holding a gun.

“I was just afraid of his strength,” she said. “I’m pointing at him, asking him to calm down and stay away or get out of the store which the door was jammed, and he had no way out, so therefore I was between a rock and a hard place, and I just did what I had to do,” she said.

The woman said she fired one shot at the man when he charged her and shot him again when he picked up a chair to throw at her sister.

“It’s just a scary sight, and I know that people are saying what they could’ve done, what they would’ve done, but until you’re in a situation, you never know what you will do, especially when the fear hits you. You never know what you’re going to do. He was a big guy, big enough to hurt me,” she said.

The woman’s sister, who began live streaming after the shooting, said the man was like a lion locked in a cage. She said when they called the police, the naked man was on the ground, and she and her sister and brother were still locked inside the restaurant.

She said she went on Facebook to let loved ones know what was happening.

“If the police came in and arrested us or anything, my family needed to know. Somebody needed to know where we were or what was going on with us.”

Memphis Police said a man was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died. They said a woman was detained but haven’t released any details about the shooting.

The woman who fired the shots said she was taken into custody but is not facing any charges.

She said she never wanted to take another life.

“I’m not a monster. I would never hurt anybody purposely. I just feared for my life and just did what I thought I was supposed to do,” she said. “I didn’t want him to die or anything like that. I just didn’t wanna be the one my mom had to claim to identify.”

The sisters said they recognized the man from the neighborhood. Police have not identified him.
